So it appears most people didn't like me limiting this tournament to a set of countries, so we're mixing it up.
You get two nominations from any Foriegn country you like, as long as they don't speak English. Nomination will end once we get thirty two of them, meaning I need sixteen people to participate. Nominate away

TWO? That's sadistic. Ugh. Ok. I have to go with Battle Royale. For my second... City of God. I know it ultimately doesn't mean anything, but it's a horribly difficult choice nonetheless. I guess I'll have to just hope other people nominate my other foreign favorites.

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

The problem was moreso limitations per country and thus per participants but w/e I'm a pushover for this stuff

Checked it out, truly amazing. I will not be forgetting this one. Wasn't set out to push pity, but more to inform, with showing there lives, not statistics. I'll be checking out more Forugh Farrokhzād, 4

Here's what Jonathan Rosenbaum said of it:
The most powerful Iranian film I’ve seen is this 20-minute black-and-white 1962 documentary made by Forugh Farrokhzad (1935-1967), commonly regarded as the greatest 20th-century Persian poet. It’s her only film and its subject is a leper colony in northern Iran. Part of what’s so special about it is its seamless adaptation of the techniques of poetry to the techniques of film, in which framing, editing, sound, and narration all play central roles. At once lyrical and extremely matter-of-fact–without a trace of sentimentality or voyeurism yet profoundly humanist–Farrokhzad’s view of everyday life in the colony (children at school and at play, people eating, various medical treatments) is spiritual, unflinching, and beautiful in ways that have no apparent Western counterparts; to my eyes and ears, it registers like a prayer.
I'd like to add that it's a prayer of reconciliation between faith and sickness.
