View Full Version : MoFo Fantasy Football 2012 - Week 5

The Bye weeks are upon us. Well, actually, they started last week, but only two teams were on Bye last week and one of them (Indianapolis) has precious few fantasy-relevant players, so it kinda feels like this is the beginning of it, with Dallas, Detroit, Oakland and Tampa Bay all on Bye.

-

11 Angry Men (2-2) vs. Liquor And Whores (3-1)
Both PW and I got hit by freight trains last week; he put up 101, I put up 123, but it hardly mattered, because both of our opponents put up more than 160. So it goes.

Romo's on Bye, so I'm rolling with Schaub, but he's actually been quite good. Nicks it out again, most likely, so that's a big blow, but I should have the depth to parry a lot of the damage. PW's without both Stafford and Murray this week, which is a big deal, but he's got Ponder in there with a really choice matchup, so he might not miss a beat, especially if Chris Johnson's 140 yards last week as the beginning of a rebound.

That said, I've got both Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez going against one of the softest pass defenses in the NFL, which I think should mitigate the fact that MJD and Charles both have fairly challenging matchups.

PREDICTION: Think I'll take this one.

The Replicants (0-4) vs. Sookie's Suckers (3-1)
Brutal start for Mike, who's now 0-4, but knowing him he'll fight all the way and he's still got a lot of talent to work with. Sookie had a huge week last week, mainly because she's loaded with Pats and they scored over 50 points. She'll have to fish for tight ends for at least one more week, though she survived easily even with a donut from that spot in week 4.

Neither team has particularly great matchups here, except for Seds who has both Eli and Cruz going against a pliable Cleveland pass defense. That's enough to tip the scales, prediction-wise, but I think this could be a modestly scoring affair.

PREDICTION: Replicants.

Team Zissou (2-2) vs. RG3scompany (3-1)
Big Bye week swing potential here; Fiscal's missing V-Jax and LeShoure, and Adam's not missing anyone. And there's lots of head-to-head drama, as Fiscal has both Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, who're playing the Redskins, while Adam has RG3. Moreover, Fiscal's Jackie Battle has been named the starter for San Diego over Adam's Ryan Mathews. So those two games will control a huge portion of this outcome.

Adam's team has held up better than I'd expected so far. I think at some point RG3's gonna have to have to growing pains, but I'm not sure they're happening this week. I think Atlanta might hamper him passing-wise, but Cam Newton ran on them pretty effectively. Then again, maybe that was good practice. Pretty tough call, but...

PREDICTION: ...I'll narrowly go with Adam here.

Big Damn Heroes (3-1) vs. Wyld Stallyns (2-2)
Jay's missing Doug Martin, Sleezy Jason Witten. Both are projected for strong totals (for a Bye week), though.

I really have no clue who's going to win this one. Nothing's jumping out. When in doubt, go with the guy who who's got Arian Foster, I guess. But I won't, because...forget it, I don't have to explain myself to you!

PREDICTION: Sleezy.

show me the money (0-4) vs. Dillon Panthers (2-2)
TONGO's still living or dying with Denver, so far, it's two of one, two of the other. They've got a nice matchup against New England, and Dusty's losing Austin to the Bye and probably Jennings to a groin injury. Fitz had a nice game last week, but the RB situation is still tricky. Yahoo thinks this is going to be a pretty low-scoring game on both sides, which I think is fairly likely. Lynch has a great matchup against the Panthers, though, who've given up the most points to running backs of any team so far, so...

PREDICTION: ...I'll go with TONGO.

I Be Weave (1-3) vs. Beantown Champs (3-1)
Probably the biggest Bye week absences of any of the matchups; Dex is missing Megatron, and Pete's missing McFadden. Dex has a lot of solid RB options but fewer at WR after the two Johnsons--Andre and Calvin--so going without the latter means trusting someone like Jerome Simpson. Pete's got some iffy guys in there, too, but Cobb's the only one that looks particularly likely to disappear.

PREDICTION: Pete.

If I picked against you, don't worry: my record so far this year is freakin' terrible.

First game's tonight; STL-ARI.

Don't worry I will lose yet again. It's sad to say because it looks like I'm not being competitive, yet there's only so much I can do. Oh well. The autopicks really did kill me though.

10-04-12, 11:54 PM
Larry Fitzgeralds caught 5 for 71 yds so far, but Ryan Williams is looking bleak.

Amendola went out with a serious injury. Looks like his clavicle. 2nd year in a row with a awful crap break. Have him in the Jungle, and he'll be hard to replace.

Sleezy
10-05-12, 09:05 AM
Crap.

Yoda
10-05-12, 12:15 PM
Yeah, I've got him in another league. Was sitting him, actually, because I have crazy WR depth, but now I guess it's a good thing I didn't trade any of it. Except him, I mean.

Initial tests were inconclusive; doing more today. Poor guy. Real bummer for him, if he's out long.

Meanwhile, big 18 point game for the Rams D last night, which I nabbed and slotted in this week just over Atlanta. Yay. Rough for PW, but since it came against the Cardinals I'm guessing he'll take it.

Powdered Water
10-05-12, 09:04 PM
F*ckin' Cardinals. Couldn't even score a damn TD to at least make your defense have a normal total. It took ball-balls to slot St.Louis in there though. Good call.

rauldc14
10-05-12, 09:09 PM
That was an impressive call with St. Louis D, Yoda. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be slotting them much more this year.

Yoda
10-05-12, 09:21 PM
Right now I'm like the guy who just hit the billiard balls as hard as possible and has to pretend whatever went in was completely intentional.

Sleezy
10-05-12, 10:52 PM
Makes sense though. The Rams' secondary is tough to throw on, and the Cardinals have absolutely no running game. Perfect storm.

TONGO
10-07-12, 01:55 PM
Now Im nervous. ESPN is picking the Patriots to win, and McGahee might have trouble. Would be so easy to slap Alf in my RB2 slot, and play Maclin or Smith in the Flex. Ack! We should play a lineup freeze type style where once you hit Lineup Set it cant be changed.

Yoda
10-07-12, 03:35 PM
Good grief, Tony Gonzalez is on pace for career highs in catches and TDs, and he's 36 years old.

I made a point to target him just about a week before the draft after largely looking elsewhere before, and I ended up taking him in both my leagues. That offense is pretty potent this year, and they sure look his way a lot.

Yoda
10-07-12, 04:40 PM
Mike and LT just posted a picture of themselves on Facebook starting at a laptop.

Mike's got a big edge there right now, thanks to having both Eli and Victor Cruz, who've hooked up for three TDs today. Yowza. Cruz's line is 4 catches for 46 yards and 3 TDs, which is pretty much the WR equivalent of those "4 carries for 5 yards and 3 TDs" lines Jerome Bettis used to have.

Yoda
10-07-12, 04:44 PM
Local radio guy just said someone "literally cuts Vick in half." Literally!

Yoda
10-07-12, 05:17 PM
Was cruising for a bit against PW but Jones just nabbed a late TD, so he's within 4. Jones only has 4 catches, but amazingly 2 of them are TDs.

I've probably still got an edge given our remaining players, but it's definitely a ball game.

I hate football

Yoda

Now trailing thanks to two more catches from Reggie Wayne, who's putting up stupid numbers. Which confirms my suspicion:

PW is Andrew Luck.

Yoda
10-07-12, 05:32 PM
Ooof. Thomas, Wayne, and Tamme all catching passes in quick succession, and suddenly I'm down 15 a good 20 minutes after being up over 30.

Yoda
10-07-12, 05:34 PM
And Wayne with a late TD. Good grief. This might be the best game he's ever had, and I get a front-row seat.

Powdered Water

Now trailing thanks to two more catches from Reggie Wayne, who's putting up stupid numbers. Which confirms my suspicion:

PW is Andrew Luck.

Nah, but I did get to see the kid play a bit in the Pac 10 and had a feeling that Wayne could be in for a good year. Luck can play, no doubt.

Yoda
10-07-12, 07:42 PM
It's doubly rough because I specifically targeted Wayne during the draft; I was going to take him a couple rounds before his ADP, but I think you went even a round earlier, and that did it.

Anyway, I was starting to creep up again, because I could conceivably just need to be within 30-35 with Schaub and the kicker yet to go...but Ponder just threw another TD, so unless I put up a score or two before these games end that'll probably do it. I'll need at least another 10 in the remaining 4:00 games to have a realistic shot.

TONGO
10-07-12, 08:01 PM
Trying to score as much as possible before Drew Brees goes tonight. Shonn Greene and Malcom Floyd are also for Dustin but Drew deserves singular mention.

Right now Im winning 105.52 to his 47.80. After the 4:00 games are over Ill be done, and Mr DC14 still has Brees and those other guys.

4th and 1 and McGahee drops what Jon Gruden calls a "You got to make that catch!" type passes. I hate the Patriots.

Yoda
10-07-12, 08:19 PM
Now PW's just piling on. Thomas is nearing 200 yards, too. Ouchpainhurt.

I'm gonna be 2-3, and all three losses will be of the "man, did I play that dude on the wrong week" variety, particularly these last two.

Powdered Water
10-07-12, 08:27 PM
I'm sure Chris and Rob both had to love Brady getting dumped on his ass and fumbling while trying to go for it on 4th down earlier in the quarter.

TONGO
10-07-12, 08:30 PM
Oh Yeah I was lovin it, and was lovin the drive the Broncs were putting together only behind 10 points, and when McGahee fumbled, then I stopped lovin it. :(

Powdered Water
10-07-12, 08:33 PM
Never liked McGahee.

Fiscal
10-08-12, 01:56 AM
RG3scompany up 7, he has Owen Daniels and I have Houston's defense. This could go either way. The Jets are turning the ball over and Daniels is racking in points each week.

Well that was the worst day of football for my team! ARGH

TONGO
10-08-12, 05:52 PM
Drew Brees went nuts on San Diego last night, and gave DustinDC14 a fighting chance. He needs 20 points out of Shonn Greene tonight vs Houston , but its a chance nonetheless.

rauldc14
10-09-12, 01:10 AM
Shonn Greene never had a chance

10-09-12, 10:53 AM
Can't believe I survived Arian Foster last night. Thought for sure he'd score another TD and edge Jay over me.

This week doesn't look as favorable. Dex's matchups are pretty good and all of mine are bad. And I'm definitely in the market for a decent backup RB.

Yoda
10-09-12, 10:58 AM
I'm 2-3. Wut?

Sedai
10-09-12, 11:10 AM
I...got a win! I am also sleeping out in the yard....

Fiscal
10-09-12, 12:18 PM
Owen Daniels with a nice come back season. Unfortunate for me though.

TONGO
10-09-12, 11:49 PM
I have a scrappy lil team this year. Peytons delivered, Alfred Morris....I mean even that lunatic Shanahan is 100% behind him, Marshawns steady, Decker finally delivered, and Im hoping Hartlines not a flash in the pan. Spent my 1st round waiver wire player grabber thingy to get him. McGahee had a bad week, but still brought in 13 for me.

Week 6 Ive got Peteys Beantown Champs who are built similar to my squad, 3 RBs & 2 WRs. Trent Richardson, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Darreen McFadden scare me. My RBs numbers are at least on par with his, but the PPR potential of all 3 of his runners can suddenly blow up in points.

Whats a nice lil touch is our QBs are playing each other, Ive got Peyton and he has Rivers. Ive no idea who is gonna win this, but if someone had the edge Id say it was me. That is if Brian Hartlines not a flash in the pan.

Edit In - Ive decided to go with Jeremy Maclin instead of Hartline.

Forgot to post some records! Both from this week and others, so I'll just dump them all in here:

Week 5

Pete's 170.46 points was the 11th highest in league history.
Similarly, Pete's 105.88 margin over Dex was the second highest in league history. He missed the mark (from way back in 2008) by under a point.
PW's 162.22 points were the 24th highest.
PW and I combined for 277.78 points; 19th highest.
Hard to get fully accurate Lowest Score totals, because we were half-PPR in our first season, but if you adjust Dex's score to half-PPR it would be 58.58, which would be about the 12th-lowest in league history, though my records on this aren't as precise as some of the others categories.

Week 4

Sleezy and Seds combined for 278.02 points; the 18th highest combined score.
Adam and I combined for a huge 286.20 points, which is the 12th highest combined total.

Earlier

Sedai had two of the highest losing totals in weeks 2 and 4. Both were over 130 and they were the 9th and 16th, respectively. Tough break.
Dusty's 133-point losing effort in week 1 was the 12th-highest losing score on record.
