Hey guys, some posts on the ShoutBox got me into this thread. Post your all time favourite Simpsons classic moments and episodes!

Off the top of my head, mine would have to be The Monarail Episode and the apparently named (thanks SB) "Rosebud" episode where Mr Burns loses his beloved BOBO the bear.

So whats yours?

I love The Simpsons . It's hard to say......I guess what comes to mind is when Homer steps into the world of CG animation. That was awesome to watch. :yup: :D Although I have to say I like almost every simpsons cartoon.

My all time favorite is the one where Homer ballons up to 300 pounds to go on disability. It has all my favorite simpsons lines.

Homer: "I just wanted to watch 'Honk if you're Horny' with dignity!'"

Homer: "I'm washing my fat guy hat!"

Bart: "I wash myself with a rag on a stick..."

Mr. Burns: "I want to see more Franklin Roosevelts and less Teddy Roosevelts!"

I love simpsons sooo much. But my top few would have to be;

1) The Stonecutters episode
2) Homer's Quartet
3) The catburgular one, where someone is stealing everyone's stuff and Homer forms a gang. It's got some funny lines

Moe: "Can you swing a sack of doorknobs"
Kid: "Can I!"
Moe: "Here's the sack but you gotta supply your own doorknobs"

Grandpa: "I noticed he was wearing sneakers.....for sneaking. And the other night at the museum there was something more vertical about his walk than horizontal and finally he has the world's largest circonia on his coffee table" hehheh

Homer: "We all need codenames, barny can be Q ball, I'll be 8 ball, Lenny your 2 ball and moe you can be Q ball"
Mow: "You're an idoit homer"

4) The lemon tree one, where Shelbyville residents steal the Springfield lemon tree.

5) The one where homer joins the freak show because he can be hit by cannon balls.

6) Lastly the one where bart discovers a comet. lines;

Homer: "Don't worry kids the meteor will probably break apart in the atmosphere and not be able to hurt anyone, well If I'm wrong may we be horribly killed from above somehow"

Lisa: "The scary thing is that this is exactly what dad said was going to happen"
Homer: "I'm scared too kids" *all hudle shaking

I love it when in one episode when Maggie was sitting on grandpa Simpson's lap. They were playing peek a boo; grandpa is like "where's Maggie".."where's Maggie", " no really where's maggie, a can't see her"

I know it's supposed to be cool to say that the show has gone WAY downhill, but tonight's episode had several stunningly-animated scenes and a very strong plot. This season is turning out to be REALLY good.

dang... and I wanted to be cool.. guess not..

I still like The Simpsons, and have far too many favorites to start listing. It just amazes me though how long its been on the air. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I heard there have been only 1 or 2 shows that lasted longer (one of them being Gunsmoke I think)... gonna check for references on that...

edit: I knew I had heard something about The Simpsons being the second longest running show... guess it was second longest just for a certain type though. I copied the following from a Wikipedia entry:

The year 2007 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Simpsons franchise. With its nineteenth year (2007–2008), the series will be only one season behind Gunsmoke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunsmoke)'s US primetime, scripted television record of 20 produced seasons. However, Gunsmoke's episode count of 635 episodes far surpasses The Simpsons, which would not reach that mark until its 29th season, under normal programming schedules.

However, there have been other shows on for much longer, depending on what you call a show I guess... I'm thinking of news or sports programs, which are in a different category I suppose.

Season 8 was the best season in my opinion, but my favorite episode has to be "A Milhouse Divided" (which just so happens to be on season 8).

For those of you who don't know what episode that is, that's the "Can I Borrow a Feeling" episode.

I didn't like that episode at all. Instead of satirising America's obsession with guns, i found it weird, uncomfortable and unfunny. But that might be just me.

I am not enough of a "nerd" to know the titles, but mine are; the one where Bart has a crush on an older neighbor girl, the "Flaming Moe" episode, the one where Bart becomes Mr. Burns' heir, the one where Milhouse and Bart buy a comic book and fight over it, the "Angry Dad" episode with Stan Lee, the "Frank Grimes" episode, and the pilot Christmas episode.

I'm a huge Simpsons fan, and like many Simpsons fans, I can't limit myself to just one favourite episode. But I recently rewatched Bart's Comet and good lord, that episode is hysterical. So many quotable moments (We are the Superfriends!) and plenty of great Moements, including this one (sorry about the bad quality):

The Treehouse of Horror episodes are all a lot of fun.

The first nine at least. The only one i'm not a big fan of is 8. The first Treehouse of Horror is genius even though it isn't my favourite, something as simple as James Earl Jones reading The Raven just works perfectly. I also really liked the story given to the first two Treehouse of Horrors, in the first Homer sits outside the Treehouse listening to Bart and Lisas scary stories then in the second it is Homer, Bart and Lisa's nightmares. Kinda miss them doing stuff like that but i suppose they'd run out of good ideas pretty quickly.

Wow - this is an old thread.

One of my most memorable favorites was the one with Albert Brooks as guru "Brad Goodman" in the self-help satire episode.
Don't know it's title.

Barts Inner child. I actually think it is one of the weakest of it's Season (it's still great though Season 5 is my third favourite), i also think it is Brooks weakest guest appearance my favourite is the legendary Hank Scorpio (You Only Move Twice) which just missed out on my top 50. Still the trampoline subplot is pretty great.

I loved it because it pulled every self-help cliche out of the closet and Brad Goodman was an amalgam of several gurus who were popular at the time... that, and the fact that when Goodman asked Bart's name, Bart told him it was "Ruttiger!"

Let's not forget, that episode also opened with "Tramapoline!" Homer's make-shift backyard amusement park and the Gone With the Wind homage!

I didn't forget, i mentioned the tramapoline subplot ;). Actually it isn't even really a subplot it just introduces the main story. I've always loved the joke of Homer being asked how much money would he take to use his trampoline and that gives him an idea which turns out to be him setting up a sign that says go away :D

I think the hardest i ever laughed at a Simpsons joke the first time i saw it was the gag in Bart's Girlfriend were Bart hears an angelic voice and rushes to the church thinking it is Jessica Lovejoy and it turns out to be Flanders :rotfl:. Obviously it doesn't work that much for me now since i know it is coming but the first time killed me.

Homer's Phobia

Tennis The Menace? We'll have to fall out soon i hate that episode :D

The other three are fantastic. As you can see i had Summer of 4FT2 at 15, i honestly think either that or Bart Sells His Soul is the most perfect episode of the show even though neither are my favourite, just the perfect blend of humour and emotion.

Itchy and Scratchy Land is amazing would have probably been in my next ten. I actually think that is one of the ten funniest episodes which i think shows when The Simpsons was great it was very great since it is a comedy that i usually look for more things in other than laughs the opposite of a show like It's Always Sunny for example.

Homer's Phobia is great was probably in my top 10 or 20 at one point, i just think it has fell for me like episodes like Cape Feare, Bart The Daredevil, 22 Short Films, etc. Just think i'e watched them a bit too much and they aren't quite as enjoyable now because i know them inside out.

I like that one! Queenus Williams stars

I love 4'2" for exactly the reasons you stated, it is a perfect blend of humour and emotion. It's the small moments like Marge looking blissfully happy cleaning dishes in the morning, and Bart getting Milhouse as his date in that crappy game they play that makes me chuckle
But it's so emotional too, who hasn't felt excluded, and who hasn't felt that content either when they actually find friends unexpectedly, it's perfection!

Itchy and Scratchy Land is hilarious, again those small moments like the klu klux clam that have me howling!
And then Homer's Phobia is iconic at this point, and John Waters starred which is probably one of the weirdest moments in TV that I can remember

Forgot about Venus starring in that. Off topic obviously but can i ask why you like Venus so much? I also like Venus a lot; i like her more than Serena but my favourite female player ever is Justine Henin. Right now i love Garbine Muguruza, i'll always love Azarenka too who is my second favourite female player but she hasn't done much in a while when for a decent period of time it looked like she was the only one who could beat Serena. Also Laura Robson :(.

In episodes without Homer as the main character i think Homer may be funniest in Summer of 4FT2, the fireworks scene as well as everything he says to Milhouse is just gold; i know it is pretty cruel but Homer hating Milhouse is one of my favourite running gags.

Interesting to see you love Homers Phobia. I always have myself but elsewhere on the internet i've noticed people getting annoyed with Homers Homophobia; i think it is in a way that they know Homers homophobia is supposed to be so rampant to make a point but they still don't like seeing that which is fair enough.

CiCi
04-01-16, 05:34 PM
I'll PM you about Venus, since it's off topic

I agree about the running gag about Homer v Milhouse, their kiss scene was terrific!

As for the homophobia, it's something I face every day. Never directly (yet, haven't come out to my parents either) but always indirectly, such as Bible bashers making abusive statements, saying I'm unfit to look after children, I don't deserve equality, I'm as disgusting as mass murderers and paedophiles blah blah blah (ironic coming from them but there you go) and millions/billions of people condone this and share the same views, and view themselves as morally superior to me and feel no guilt about shaming people like me etc.
The internet is the worst, the comments some people make breaks me. There were videos on the gay marriage debate in the UK on youtube that I watched not long ago, that ripped me a part as well. It's only what, 3/4 years old, and people are still so vehemently against me for reasons like "I'm changing the traditional definition of marriage" (again ironic, ancient Rome and Egypt condoned same sex partnerships at some point before Christians claimed ownership of the word, but there you go  )

So I think what they did with that episode, in the USA, in the mid 1990s, was terrific. It basically showed how a moronic idiot like Homer possesses the ability to look past stereotypes and prejudices to come to value the person, not the label. The point of the episode is that if Homer can overcome it, anyone can. It's never in your face about it either telling you how awful you are if you're like Homer, it downplays it and does it in a subtle way and tells you to follow Homer's example. Their representation of the gay community there was pretty good too, they're never militant when confronted by people like Homer, they just sigh and question why they hate them, and notice how it stumped Homer. It's accurate, and I'd like to think it changed people's perceptions. I think the media has done a lot in that regard. There was a Dirk Bogarde and Sylvia Syms film in the early 60s called Victim that is largely credited as to changing people's perceptions on the matter so much, that the UK decriminalised homosexual acts in England and Wales just a few years later. I think The Simpsons used their position and status so effectively to deliver such a point in such a brilliant way.

And rant over

Camo

Great post CiCi!. My mothers twin brother is gay so i've always been brought up to accept LGBT, still i think i'm probably homophobic in ways i don't actually realize, especially because he's said it is like casual racism something that someone won't notice they are doing.

I also ranked the Treehouse of Horror segments from the first nine. There are a few segments i really like after the first nine like I Know What You Diddilly-did, The Island of Dr. Hibbert, It's the Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse, etc. I don't think there is a single THOH after the first 9 that i like 2 of the 3 segments though.

01.The Devil and Homer Simpson (4)
02.Time and Punishment (5)
03.Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace (6)
04.Bart Simpsons Dracula (4)
05.The Shinning (5)
06.The Raven (1)
07.Citizen Kang (7)
08.Homer3 (6)
09.Bad Dream House (1)
10.Terror At 5 1/2 Feet (4)
11.Hell Toupee (9)
12.The Thing and I (7)
13.The Bart Zone (2)
14.Nightmare Cafeteria (5)
15.Hungry Are The Damned (1)
16.Dial Z For Zombies (3)
17.The Genisis Tub (7)
18.King Homer (3)
19.Clown Without Pity (3)
20.Fly vs Fly (8)
21.The Monkeys Paw (2)
22.Atttack of the 7FT Eyesores (6)
23.The Terror of Tiny Toon (9)
24.The Homega Man (8)
25.Starship Poopers (9)
26.If I Only Had A Brain (2)
27.Easy Bake Coven (8)

All of these are great. There are a few great segments like the three i mentioned in the THOH's later but IMO there isn't a THOH with three or even two great segments from Treehouse of Horror X on.

Oh man, this thread is amazing. This is my favourite TV show of all time, and we're roughly the same age so I think of it as family in a weird way, it's always been there since I was a kid, my parents used to watch it and so yeah.

I'm gonna list a few favourites, but I just wanted to say I saw you two (CiCi and Camo) talking about Summer of 4'2. That's one of my favourite episodes, so many classic bits like Bart trying to impress Lisa's friends by being super skateboarder in front of the library by the fountain, and they one dude is all "That kid like... tries too hard". And when they're all sitting in the living room in Ned's beach house (where the Simpsons are staying) and the one kids like "My mom would have butted in with rice krispie squares and tang, and Marge hears this upon entering the living room with the tray of tang and rice krispie squares, and turns on her heel back out of the room. And my personal favourite is Homers exchange with the convenience store guy about fireworks

Homer: "Lemme get a box of condoms, some of those Panty shields and one.. no two disposable enemas aaaand some illegal fireworks"

Clerk: *as a customer is about to leave* "Sorry sir I'm afraid we don't carry any..."*customer walks out door* "Follow meee"

Anyway, I'm going to list a few episodes grouped by season but in no particular order, because that's much too hard. I'm gonna list up to season 4 or so for now, more later.

Moaning Lisa (1) RIP Bleeding Gums Murphy
Bart the General (1) "The Greeks knew it, the Carthaginians knew it, and now you know it"
Simpson and Delilah (2) "Mr. Simpson, did you bring an umbrella?"
O Brother, Where Art Thou (2) Say what you want, but I love Uncy Herb!
Three Men and a Comic Book (2) I just find this episode to be well written and I enjoy the story.
Bart the Murderer(3) "Gimme 3 fingers of milk 'ma"
Homer At Bat (3) "Well Mr. Burns had done it, the power plant had won it, with Roger Clemons clucking all the while"
Colonel Homer(3) "I SAID NO ONE UNDERSTANDS YOU BUT I DOOOOOOOOOO", but she couldn't "Bag a Homer"
Kamp Krusty (4) "Hail to thee Kamp Krusty, on the shores of great snake lake though your swings are rusty, we know they'll never break"
A Streetcar Named Marge(4) Just another very well written episode, and the end where Homer is all sad is classic Homer
Marge VS the Monorail (4) "Is there a chance the track could bend? Not on your life my Hindu friend" RIP Phil Hartman
Last Exit to Springfield (4) "So we'll march day and night by the big cooling tower, they have the plant but we have the power"

Homers firework scene is brilliant, i love how he decides to ask for the most unsavoury items to cover up him buying fireworks :D.

So love that you love Moaning Lisa, it is my second favourite from the first season and made my top 50 but i've noticed a lot of people think it is one of the weaker episodes. The Bart and Homer videogame subplot is hilarious and Lisa's plot is just heart wrenching. Always thought the Simpsons writers got it right with Bleeding Gums Murphy dying in his second proper appearance but they obviously decided to bring him back as a hologram in a recent episode .

Simpson and Delilah is a masterpiece . The most underrated or at least under mentioned episode of the show IMO.

Marge Vs The Monorail is the second best episode IMO, the monorail song is the best in the shows history for me at least; love the quote you chose the delivery and timing is impeccable there.

The other ones you mentioned are all great, all from the time the show was amazing.

No good sir I'm on the level.

Thank you sir, when I was younger between 13-17 they literally showed the Simpsons between 3 to 5 times a day on the channels I had, and so usually I'd watch like 30-40 episodes a week. I know that might seem a bit excessive, but meh.

Just re-posting this in case someone didn't see it in the HOF Organization Thread and they are interested:

This is a really random idea and i don't even know if there'd be enough interest, but would anyone here be interested in a Simpsons HOF? I'm talking after all the other HOF's in line are done because if it did end up happening it isn't the same as the Looney Tunes one with 6-8 minute cartoons but three times that basically which would take a decent amount more time and would risk taking away participants for the other ones. I remember someone bringing up the idea of a TV Show HOF but most agreed that it wouldn't work out since not everyone watches the same shows or much TV at all here, and that there'd be more dropouts than usual since the suggestion was that people would have to watch a Season of a show which is obviously a much bigger commitment to something you aren't enjoying than a movie.

The Simpsons is not a show that you need to have watched in order or anything, it does have some sort of loose, contradictory, canon but overall it is just 20 minute episodes that you can start anywhere from, i suppose knowing the characters would improve your enjoyment but i assume most joining would already have seen the show and it doesn't take long to familiarize yourself with the characters, well as long as you've seen some within the first eight Seasons when the characterizations were consistent. If you haven't seen any and have wanted to try the show or whatever then there'd be no problem, most fans haven't been watching since episode 1, it aired before i was born (1989). The first episode is a really nice one that gives you the origin of a Simpson family member that pops out with an episode every four or five seasons: their dog Santas Little Helper, but it is not crucial in anyway to the series. The only episodes i can think of that would be a problem are Who Shot Mr Burns Part 2 if someone didn't nominate Part 1, and the Mona Simpson episodes after Mother Simpson but why would anyone nominate them? They are awful . Anyway again this wouldn't be for a while i was just wondering if there'd be any interest in something a bit different.

For the record the reason it was The Simpsons i suggested instead of South Park which i'm sure most here know i prefer was because i caught the episode Principle Charming from Season 2 today and one very minor joke made me want to watch the first 9-10 seasons again. The joke:

*Homer is sitting in the corner of Moe's Bar with a beer looking depressed*

Moe: Hey Homer stop looking so glum you are making happy hour seem bitterly ironic.

Really small jokes in the first 7 or 8 seasons in particular are what makes the show so great.

Also we may even be able to get Mark F to join a HOF!! Don't want to shoot for the stars just yet but Yoda is also a fan!!

Do you like all of them or do you just think they are the most memorable? I like The Book Job and Hardly Kirk-ing. I'd also add Brick Like Me and Halloween of Horror. Think that's it for me though.

I remember these episodes because I liked them. The reason I didn't state these were my favorites is because there might be other episodes I would like more but I just don't remember them as well.

There are a ton of 10/10 Simpsons episodes from back in the day, but if I had to pick just one as my #1 of all time, it would probably have to be "$pringfield", for a number of reasons; for one, it's just really, really funny, and a great example of the show at its best when it comes to just pure, straightforward comedy (as opposed to a fellow GOAT ep like "Homer's Enemy", which is more of a self-aware deconstruction of Homer's life), but it's also a perfect introductory episode to someone who's never watched the show before as well, since it's full of a ton of different sub-plots and character bits that it manages to balance perfectly without becoming over-stuffed, providing a perfect overview of the show's overall cast of characters and their individual quirks. It's just a perfect Simpsons episode all-around, if you ask me.
