Hello, I'm a film and TV buff from Sweden, as the title of this thread suggests. At 37, I sometimes feel as though I've spent a lifetime in front of the TV, but it actually feels like time well spent, so I'm not planning on changing my possibly not so healthy habits.

It's almost impossible to pick a favourite movie, but if I were to compile a top-ten-list, I'd put the Back to the Future trilogy on it, along with gems like Red Rock West and eXistenZ.

As far as TV-series goes, I actually have an all-time favourite: the Australian drama Prisoner Cell Block H from the 1980's.

In the mid-eighties, when I was still young enough to have idols, Michael J Fox and Bill Cosby were my favourite actors. I still admire Michael J Fox for his courage and determination, and a couple of other actors I particularly like are Dennis Hopper and David Ogden Stiers.

Well, I think that's about all I had for now, I'm looking forward to getting to know some of the members here.

Thank you all for welcoming me to the forum.

I used to love Prisoner: Cell Block H. Now I love Neighbours. :DI've never watched Neighbours, but I used to watch Flying Doctors. When I did, I spotted quite a few actors from PCBH; Elspeth Ballantyne for instance, and Maurie Fields. With Maurie Fields I should say it was rather the opposite; I spotted him in PCBH at the end of the series, playing a guard who ends up in a cell for attacking Pixie Mason.

Talking about Prisoner Cell Block H brings back to mind the first Internet forum I was a member of (mailing list would be a more accurate name for it). The most hardcore fans of the series would have a "warm-up session" before each episode, and afterwards partake in an in-depth analysis of what the characters had been up to. Those were the days...

My grandfather was born in Sweden! :) You have some Swedish ancestry, cool! Who knows, maybe we are distant relatives. My grandfather was born in Sweden too

There's been a lot of Neighbours/Prisoner crossover through the years.

Colette Mann (Doreen) is currently back in it as the grandmother of one of the characters.

It really is Doreen! I would never have recognized her at a quick glance. Thanks for the link, by the way, very interesting. Now I'm starting to feel the itch to watch all 692 episodes a third time. :D

I knew of Susan, Kyle's Grandma, and Lyn. Didn't realise there were so many!

There's a good deal of crossover in a lot of Australian drama/soap. Especially from the 70's and 80's, due the small pool of talent and the name factor. I always remember Nell Mangel in The Sullivans (which my mum loved), Phillip Martin as the bad boy from Son's And Daughters and Jim Robinson from The Young Doctors and his massive hair.

Indeed he has. I love seeing "Jim" popping up. I saw him on a gurney in ER once, but the best one was seeing him in 24 (which I didn't watch, but saw at a friends) as THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!! :D Loved that.

I think he holds the (unofficial) record for dying of a heart attack on screen. I think he's upto 7 now.

I loved seeing Robert Grubb from The Flying Doctors pop up in the movie (or TV-series?) Salem's Lot, based on Stephen King's novel. I don't remember the name of his character, but if I'm not mistaken he played a man of questionable morals, who had only his appearance in common with Dr. Standish.
