Terminator vs. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

ETSOTSM rightfully takes its place as one of the best movies of the last decade.

M vs.Once Upon a Time in China

While not as fun and entertaining as OUATIC (with its beautiful Chinese costumes and setting that's an eye-opener for the Western audience), M is the groundbreaking film that has not dated one bit.

I've only seen 4 of the 16 movies, just no links together for me to vote yet. I'm considering giving White Heat or Sansho the Bailiff a watch, if I can find either of them.

Holy Cow! (or some other inappropriate euphemism) but I didn't realize that so many people have seen Elmer Gantry since it was in these votes which drew very little response, so I assumed it was because it was the film which nobody had seen. Now, this is not my trying to say that I'm not sure that you've seen it. This is my asking you who have, "What did you think?" I don't even care about some compare/contrast with Forrest Gump. All I want to know is what do you REALLY think of the film I consider the second-best ever made (yes, hyperbole, but it's mine, so I know it's correct.)

I thought it was interesting how that film and Inherit The Wind came out at the same time. You might have rec'd Elmer Gantry because of my liking of Inherit, I don't remember, but the big difference in this film was Gantry playing many roles within a handful of scenes, which made it seem very relevant to today, or maybe that's just me becoming aware of how politics works. I do want to read the book to experience a different atmosphere, but the film felt a bit more subtle than I expected, which I think had to do with its release date. I only saw it once so I don't know if I missed anything either, filmy-stuff wise, since it felt more like an actor's showcase, which all the leads proved to be true, so let me know your historical-backdrop-riposte.

It Happened One Night vs. Sansho the Bailiff

Just finished watching Sansho the Bailiff and all I can say is wow. It was an absolute heart breaking movie for me. Human emotion has never been portrayed in a more fragile way. The ending is one of the saddest that I've seen. I can honestly say that this is up there with one of the better if not the best foreign movie that I've seen to date.

However, It Happened One Night is one of my favorites of all time, so it was a really tough matchup for me. In the end, I know that IHON will stay as one of my favorites, I'm not sure that Sansho would continue to have the impact that it did when I watched it the first time, though it is still a possibility. You can't go wrong with either. And they couldn't be more of complete opposite movies either.

I seriously need to see Sansho the Bailiff. I don't think I've ever heard of someone not loving it.

yes, Hitch you MUST see it. Just truly a brilliant film and wouldn't be disappointed if it knocked out IHON at all.

I own Sansho on Criterion but still have to see it. I watch my Croterion alphabetically though so it's a little farther in of my little set. Planning on watching my L'Enfance Nue criterion today and tommorow so that'll bring it one step closer

I realize that this is a difficult, time-consuming job, but I'm not liking the coin tosses. It almost makes it seem as if we could just toss coins for each matchup. I'm not sure what to do about it, but it does seem to belittle the results of the whole exercise.

I don't like it either. Perhaps in the future tournaments we can do something with it. But I figured just to get this thing rolling along its about all I can think of right now. Maybe we can have 1 vote per person where they are allowed to save a film with a tiebreaker? I don't know just a thought.

I personally think the best way to resolve ties is Rottwn Toamtoes. The film that has the higher critic score moves on.

No

Why do you think it makes less sense then a coin toss?

Why do you think it makes less sense then a coin toss?Critics shouldn't represent us. It's just as meaningless as a coin flip.
