Damn that's close. I gave both of the 4 and if I remember correctly Godfather was only three-five ahead on my top 100 list. These are two really influential films on the industry and long living classics. I might of enjoyed Psycho a tad bit more, but I appreciated The Godfather more.

Well it's about time that I actually get to vote for once. Look, I get it, The Godfather will probably win. It's almost assuredly going into the final 4 if Psycho can't knock it off. If I can say anything about this matchup for me, it's that Psycho has an originality that really could not be beat at its time. That and it basically defined its own genre, which is what I love about it. I'm not asking you guys to vote for Psycho, I'm just asking you to not vote for The Godfather. We need an upset here!

Oh boy. If it weren't for the way the brackets are set up, this showdown would have come much, much later. These are my two favorite films in the entire tournament, but nothing would make me vote against Psycho.

Once Upon a Time in the West vs. The Conformist - I really need to rewatch the Leone to cast an accurate vote.

An American Werewolf in London vs. Sherlock Jr. - Both films are wildly cinematic, with innovative cinematography and F/X up the yin-yang. Both are in the mafo MoFo Top 100, but I suppose I voted for the Landis film because although I've always found it a terrific entertainment, I've recently come to see it as being more of a tragedy which is often how one feels when watching classic horror.

Woman in the Dunes vs. One Deadly Summer - I "appreciate" the Teshigahara film, but Becker's hits me in the gut (and lower) and engages me in more ways. It's also got one of the best endings ever. I'll admit that they share similar themes, especially the way the Man always thinks he's in charge and how the community influences the characters' and the filmwatchers' attitudes, but Isabelle Adjani's character pushes the French film ahead for me.

The Godfather vs. Psycho - Two more faves for me. What can I say? They both deserve to win, but I voted for the one I think is best. There are several films I would vote over it, but Psycho isn't one of them. I have a few thoughts about the films though. Both have iconic murder set-pieces. We all know the shower and the starcase scene, and they're great. But The Godfather has the horse scene, bar scene ("sleeps with the fishes"), the Italian restaurant/bathroom scene, the tollbooth scene, the kick-out-the-windshield scene ("Leave the gun, take the cannolis"), and the series of murders during the christening. I will give Psycho the comedy advantage since many of its lines have multiple meanings, and I often call it a Black Comedy. The other thing about Psycho is that I find that highway patrolman kinda creepy. He never smiles, but if he did, he'd look really scary, and he was so close to saving a life. If he'd just arrested that suspicious person, she'd have survived the Bates Motel.
