What were you favourite and least favourite Harry Potter films, if indeed you liked any of them?

The first one will always be my favorite. Just something about the wonder and magic of Harry learning about who he is and where he came from.
Least favorite Id have to say is the Goblet of Fire. I guess because it didnt fit the norm of the other school years.

Prisoner of Azkaban followed by Chamber of Secrets. The castle and the visual style was the star in those two. I should add that I watched them more as a cinephile than as Harry Potter fan; I liked even the weaker of the movies (I've seen five in total) better than the books.

I liked the last two. They never really got the casting right all round, but Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and especially Deathly Hallows: Part 2 were the only satisfactory adaptations of the books, mostly because of the extended amount of time they had to tell the story. Splitting that final part into two movies was the best idea they ever had.
Watching them try to cram the longer books into single films was a horrible experience, especially Goblet of Fire, which is my favourite book but by far the worst film. The first three weren't as bad because they're not as meaty, but I was certainly never on board with the movies before the final two.
I've said before though, that I'm sure I'd be more of a fan of the movies had I not been constantly comparing them to the novels, which is something I just can't help doing given my relationship to them.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 was easily the best Harry Potter film. It was the most adult and most action pack. Just a really good movie.

Now, I'm someone who hasn't read the books and therefore not bothered about how well adapted they are, I'm only going by the film series.
Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban - my favourite.
The others in the series I like are:
Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1(yet to see the second part)
I'm not a fan of the first two films, I started really liking the films once they took a darker turn with the third film but saying that I found most of Goblet a complete bore and was not too keen on Half Blood Prince.
Except for the first two films, I own all the other Harry Potter films and my favourite three(and Deathly Hallows Part 2) I have on lovely edition blu-rays(Goblet and Half Blood Prince are on DVD)

I've read the books and don't understand the criticism about the films. It's stupid to expect the films to slavishly follow the novels.
My opinions of the films, film by film:
- First film: I like it for nostalgia reasons but it's not really a "good film".
- Second film: Kenneth Branagh is hilarious in this. And I find this film genuinely creepy, more so than the later films which were a bit too focused on CGI/effects rather than the story.
- Third film: Lupin and Sirius actually feel like characters here, rather than figures just appearing for the sake of it. I really like this one.
- Fourth film: I could care less about Harry's hormones but the tasks were executed well.
- Fifth film: Funny in parts but I don't feel that attached to this one.
- Sixth film: Can't remember much but I think it had some Tom Riddle flashbacks, which I like.
- Seventh film: Harry's hormones are so boring! Don't like Harry/Ginny relationship. The film was okay.
- Eighth film: Emotional because it was the last film and it explained about poor Snape.

I've always like the third one the most. I like the darker tone, the great supporting cast and I feel that Alfonso Cuaron did the best directing job for the entire series.
I'll say Prisoner of Azkaban. It may be my inner fan of Cuarón showing itself, but that one is without a doubt the most well-made and possibly most entertaining. I also think it's the most well-acted of the early films.
However, I'll also say that the last two films are top-notch, especially the final chapter--a very emotional experience for fans of the book series. It really gave us a much needed catharsis.

The first one will always be my favorite. It marks the start of the great franchise.

No 1 is the winner for me.
And the Weasley Twins are my heroes! I even had their autograph (http://upnorthmemorabilia.com/james--oliver-phelps-genuine-signed-autograph-12x8-photo-harry-potter-twins?filter_name=harry%20potter) - takes the prominent place in my room. Was hard to find, BTW.

Goblet of fire - quite glamourous, Harry n pals starting to show some acting skills. Hermione starting to show her sexy potential and films with tournaments always feed my competitive hunger.

Hermione starting to show her sexy potential
Well, yeah. There's that. It's funny how Rowling apparently had to change her story slightly, because Emma Watson was getting too hot for the original character.

Deathly Hallows part 2 easy.
Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix are fantastic as well !
The others are good, but not even close to these 3 in my opinion !

I never got around to watching any of the Harry Potter films. Which is something I will have to remedy.

The craziest, most action packed, and boasts the fastest pace despite a long runtime.
Tis' good, ya?
Deathly Hallows part 2 for me. I thought it was a satisfying end to the series. I mean the Harry Potter movies are not the best movies, but I did kinda grow up watching them so watching the finale was rather satisfying.

Goblet of Fire is easily my favorite. It is the first where the real bad guy ACTUALLY appears. It sets up the story for the rest of the others. I love all of the action of the tournament. The romances between the main characters begin in this movie. Also, Ron's dress gowns make me giggle. Now for my least favorite.... I suppose my least favorite would be the Half Blood Prince. I don't care for the pacing. It just seems slow.

Deathly Hallows Pt 2 given the hype around it.
POA is second best due to the real magical atmosphere to it. As though it makes the wizarding world just so ordinary to its folk.
I remember PoA being my favourite book and it translated to film really well.
Although I can barely remember the Harry Potter movies aside from 1, 2 and 3. I remember OotP being crap.

I didn't watch these until an ex trapped me at home for a weekend of movie marathons. I'll admit I was pleasantly surprised. POA and Goblet of fire were probably the two most balanced movies in the series

toss up between POA and Chamber of Secrets
The last two were excellent movies but lacked some of the charm.
Goblet of Fire is a piece of **** it cut key parts out of the movie like the WEASLEYS GOING TO THE DURSLEYS HOUSE!!!
Holy moly! So many voting POA. HBP is seriously underrated on this forum!
HPB is definitely up near the top for me, but Cuaron sort of set the standard for tone when he shifted gears on POA after the first two films. The fact that POA might be the best book also helps a ton. Really though, I like everything from POA on forward almost evenly, with the caveat that I count the final two films as one film. If forced to split those two up, DH Part I drops a few notches in rating.
If I had to rank:
Prisoner of Azkaban
Half-Blood Prince
Deathly Hallows 1 & 2
Goblet of Fire
Order of the Phoenix
Sorcerer's Stone
Chamber of Secrets

POA, it's not even close. The flying bird sequence is what sealed the deal for me.

The cinematography of POA is fantastic, I agree, arguably the best in the series. It is truly top notch. The atmosphere is also great. I just feel as if the plot in this film is the weakest in the series - or maybe not even the plot itself, but the way Cuaron conveyed it. While shot beautifully, often, when I think in my head what film in the series I want to rewatch, POA is seldom one of them, and I'm pretty sure that's because of the way the plot carries itself in the film.
As for your listing, that's pretty much exactly how 90 % of people would rank them, lol. I do agree mostly, though, but I'd put POA ("everyone's" favorite) lower, and COS ("everyone's" least favorite) higher.

Yep, haha, I'm linked to this video whenever I try to say POA is not the best film in the series. :p

PoA has a secret blow-job and is probably the most cinematically fulfilling entry. I like Goblet of Fire a lot too. I like the sensibilities it took with representing that particular time the kid's development. Deathly Hollows 2 is also a very good meditative blockbuster.

This is a great question op.
I would need to say two films, as growing up in the Harry Potter generation It started with The Goblet of Fire, but maturing and looking at movies with a critical eye I'm more inclined to say The Prisoner of Azkaban took a lot of risks that mostly paid off.

HBP is my least favorite.
Best moment of the entire series is in DH 1 though, when Harry and Hermione dance. Honestly always felt that entry was pretty underrated.
I was so saddened when Rowling said she regretted putting Ron and Hermione together, and felt she should have put Harry and Hermione together. I absolutely love the platonic quality of Harry and Hermione's relationship, it's one of my fave things about the series.

Personally I was more hoping Hermione and Ginny might get it together actually ;)
I wished they had let Cuaron direct H-BP. I think he would have been better equipped at choosing which parts to cut out and what to emphasize.

Just mentioned this in a different HP thread on here, but yes, that is hands down one of the more moving, compelling and simply beautiful scenes. Though I wouldn't say it's underrated. If you look up the scene on YT or something, /watch?v=DFe0OR-Vaww, have a look at the comments, and you'll see it's rated pretty highly. Of the few made-up scenes in the films that Rowling didn't write in the books, it's definitely one of the most appreciated and famous ones.

I meant the movie (DH 1) was underrated, not the scene.

Ah, gotcha. I completely agree. I often end up saying DH Part 1 is my favorite.
The thing about DH Part 1 is that it was highly successful in building a foreboding atmosphere. It was emotionally charged, and it felt like everyone were trying to carry on as best they could, knowing the final battle was inevitably coming. It brings everyone to their darkest point in the story and sets up the feeling of the final battle brilliantly. It's slow, yes, but that pairs very well with the mood of the film, and the harrowing task the three friends find themselves setting out to take on.

Mr. Potter. Our--new--celebrity. (Sorry, had to. Good to see some other HP avatars on this forum, though. We seem to be seriously underrepresented here.)
I agree. POA and HBP are -- by far from my perspective -- the most well-made films in the series. It shouldn't really come as a surprise that most people here have voted for POA; in pretty much every discussion on the internet about what HP film is the best, the majority say POA. That being said, HBP seems to be underrated in general, yeah. I've always struggled to decide which one is better of POA and HBP. It's a roller coaster between the two, really.
