So much anticipation going in to see this movie. What a disappointment. A hackneyed, retreaded story that is only saved by amazing performance from Channing Tatum and Matthew M. Alex Pettyfer has zero charisma and all that Cody Horn does is scowl through the whole movie.

Channing really was the star and I think it was the only thing that saved the movie for what it was worth. Matthew M. did a great job on toning his bod but his face looked old!! Looked like I was staring at a leather saddle bag.

Joe Manganiello was great for what I saw of him.

The movie was too short and lacked a lot of plot. The Kid didn't do much for me either.

I have a difficult time believing this is bad. Soderbergh is a smart director; on top of that, I've heard on Filmspotting--a podcast--that his direction is as competent as always (apparently the opening scene is very him). Steven is probably fully aware of the story cliches and as a filmgoer who has seen a majority of his works now, I believe he knows exactly what he's doing.

I'm in no rush to see it, granted, but nevertheless, I think it's much different than what the audience thought they were about to see. He has a way of challenging preconceived notions.

Now, had she growled as well, I wonder if she'd have gotten an Oscar?

Her character was just annoying.

Three stars

Magic Mike is a Steven Soderbergh film that was inspired by true events. The star Channing Tatum was a male stripper and always wanted to do amovie about one.
He got his wish.
The film starts with Dallas (Matthew McConaughey). Discussing the rules of where you cannot touch. Than switches to Mike (Tatum) who appears to be cleaning up after a three way with two girls. The one girl who appears to be a mainstay un his life asks him about an odd piece of furniture. He tells her that he wants to have his pwn furniture business. Follow these two storylines.
At the construction site that he works at he meets Adam. Adam is a 19 year old who lives with his sister Brooke and lost a football schloarship due to fighting with his coach.
After Adam abandons a date with Brooke and her obnoxious boyfriend, he goes to the nearby club and spots Mike. After begging Mike lets him in. But he owes Mike a favor.
Mike uses Adam to talk to these girls to unknowingly lure them to the male strip club he works at. Once inside the club and after seeing the strippers perform, Adam is impressed.
He even gets to perform when one of the strippers is well not quite up to it. Enough to impress Dallas.
This films reminds me of boogie nights. Just not as bold. It serves as a cautionary tale. And you can tell that they actors had fun with the dance numbers.
Tatum and McConaughey give great performances and hold the film on their shoulders. This vould have been a great film. If only they had been a bit more daring.
