I don't understand the reason for this, I join this site to talk and if needed post a link to a site if it happens to come up. Ppl shouldnt be able to wait to leave a link up if they wanted to .

It's just a SPAMMING protection, everyone else has done it, it's no big deal.

It hardly takes less than few minutes to make 10 posts.
So stop complaining.

People post 10 times & leave a lot of unnecessary links, I can't even imagine what the poor moderators would have to go through cleaning up spam if such rule didn't exist.

Site Rules (http://www.movieforums.com/community/rules.php)

No Spam

This means no posting links to your own site (even if relevant to the topic). No short, pointless posts designed to circumvent our 10-post minimum before links can be used, and no flooding the board with short posts designed to draw attention to a link in your signature. If you're not here to simply talk about movies, you're in the wrong place.

You don't think enough of our website to make 10 relevant posts, but you want to include your link?

Yeah, trust me, it's entirely necessary. We got way more spam before implementing this rule, mostly from bots.

Now, instead, we get less...but we get a handful of people who post pointless filler to get to 10. But they're much easier to spot. For example, so far most of your posts are pointless filler, so I'm guessing your complaint about the rule is fairly self-interested. Which is kind of amusing. I dunno if we've ever had a potential spammer draw attention to themselves by complaining about how difficult we'd made it to spam.

You're trying to send emails to members you don't even know yet?

This rule exists for a very good reason, which I've already explained. Sorry if you don't like it, but it's entirely necessary, and if you spent half as much time just posting normally as you have complaining about it and posting filler, you'd be there already, anyway.

Me thinks someone is in a mood because they can't put spam links up. 10 is nothing, one board I'm on you can't link until you have made 100 posts.

If you really have an interest in film and want to post on this board, then making 10 posts should be really simple.

And, you seem to have made 10 posts, let's see what happens. :yup:

This dude and I ended up exchanging some pretty goofy PMs, by the way. He posted a bunch of filler posts and I deleted them. I asked him what link he wanted to post, and he says he didn't really want to post a link, he just didn't like the idea that he couldn't yet. This despite the fact that I saw him try to get to 10 and then post a new thread multiple times.

Oh, and he PM'd me again recently asking me if I'd changed the rule yet. Heh.

Ha!

I nearly choked on my beer just now...

Poor bloke... I wouldn't be interested anyway, I've got plenty of spam in my cupboards going to waste anyway, I hate the stuff...

... anyone want to buy it from me? I'll stick a link up...

I was like wtf too @ 10 posts.

But this forum, and the games forum nipped that problem in the bud in no time. It's not a big ask.

Try the post, post, post, post, post, spam, post, post, spam, and post. It's not got that much spam in it.

I really don't understand what's so shocking/wtf about the 10 post rule... are you really in that much of a rush to post such an amazing link?

Was it soooo shocking that robinsoncrusoe refuses to come back to the lovely board. :D
