View Full Version : MoFo Fantasy Baseball - 2012 Signups
Thought I'd toss this up a little bit earlier than last year; Yahoo opens its leagues up again this evening, so we might as well give ourselves plenty of time to sort everything out, especially since I'm hoping to convince you guys to try a more traditional Roto format.
But first thing's first: owners! We had 14 last year, which I think we should consider our ceiling. By my count around half of last year's owners are mortal locks to return, with several more extremely likely, so odds are we're looking at either 12 or 14. We should have plenty either way, so nobody should feel obligated. We should only need to actively "recruit" an extra owner if we end up with an odd number.
As a reminder, these leagues are open to any forum regular. Preference is always given to people who have played before, and if multiple people end up vying for a spot we tend to prefer giving it to the MoFo who's been around longer, is around more regularly, etc. But anyone can throw their hat into the ring and we'll do our best to fit in as many people as possible.
So, I'm in. That's one. Who else? :)

Ahhh, already looking forward to spring training, not too far off!!
I'm definitely in!
I couldn't get into it last year, I'm out this go around.
Finally! Yeah Im in and have been ready for this since I traded away Ray Rice. Ive a buddy at work who's also a FB friend that wants in if we have an opening. Hes an experienced fantasy baseballer and a Red Sox fan, but I dont hold that against him.

In. Thinking of a new team name. Roids seem to be on the outs, may need something new and improved.

As always with MOFO and fantasy count me in. You run fun leagues.
Alrighty, everyone who's confirmed in this thread should have an invite in their email inbox. :) If you changed your address since last year, or just didn't get it for whatever reason, just drop me a PM with your new address and I'll send out another.
I tossed up a tentative format and draft time and all that, but as soon as we've gotten all (or even most) of the owners locked in I'll create a thread where we can hash all that out.
Clowns are in!
Totally up for Roto, as well...
I saw this in a small publication, but now Im seeing it on Yahoo....why is Miguel Cabrera ranked #1, over Kemp & Pujols?! Did I miss something here?

Oh I see its already set to roto scoring, that's cool. One league is plenty for me.

Way I understand it is. You accumulate stats all year long and move up and down the standings that way. There are no head-to-head matchups. So you compare and contrast your team against the league and you try to improve in areas the same way you normally would
Aye. I wrote some stuff up about it last year; here's a decent summary (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=762144) of how it works. In short: less week-to-week drama, but it's way fairer, every game counts equally, and what it loses in artificial drama it makes up in some of the crazy late-season deals that can result.
Here's Yahoo's summary (http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sports/fantasysports/baseball/rules/brules-05.html;_ylt=Al3kAFL7Ru8zfpspo1SKkiMb1HhG) of the format, too.
I need o make a request on the draft day. Could we move it from saturday to sunday? Ive a good feeling Ill have to work.
If not to late would like to join.
It's totally preliminary, so I don't mind. That said, we'd probably better let everyone else weigh in. How soon before that weekend will you know whether or not you do, in fact, have to work?

Invite coming. :)

Sundays in general do usually work better for me too. If it's on a Saturday though, I'll try to attend.

ive mock drafted a couple of times now, where Ryan Braun goes is for sure the diciest. if he gets the 50 game suspension, will be really interesting to see how far he falls in our draft.

I could have sworn that my team last year really wasn't that bad. Well, I looked and I was terrible last year, though injuries (Han-Ram, Josh Johnson, Holliday (for a bit), Longo) kind of killed me.
Morse was a big pickup last year though, and Espinosa as well.
Cripes, Dex is mock drafting already? I'm already behind. :D
Think we've got 11 committed already, 9 of which have officially created their teams. Only real question is whether or not we get one more and stay at 12, or a few more and go for 14.
Anyone who's checked in so far currently against the idea of trying Rotisserie style?

I think 12 is perfect. Although there are more waiver pickups in Baseball to be made.
Yeah, I'd kind of like for us to settle at 12. But only if it doesn't mean turning away anyone who's excited about playing, naturally.
You seem dead set on the Roto style, I think the weekly matchups were fun, but in all honesty I'd think we will all have fun either way. Didnt hurt too when I looked at the 1st MoFo Fantasy Baseball season which was roto, I was a complete absentee owner, and my team made the playoffs.
My pick is for the Tampa Bay Rays to go to and win the world series in 2012. Our pitching, and defense were better than most ballclubs last year. We got into the playoffs with almost no slugging. With the new aquisition of Luke Scott, Carlos Pena again, a full season this time with Desmond Jennings, and Jeff Keppinger & Jose Molina usually have a high batting avg.......oh yeah baby, Im smelling world series :yup: Yes Im completely serious, no Im not fishing for attention. I cant believe Im actually saying this, but I am ready for some baseball! The Rays are gonna pick us up from the Buccaneers and Lightnings disappointing slack.
Yeah, I do really think it'd be a very fun thing to try. :) I think it's fairer, and it's a fun way to shake things up after a few years. If there's significant opposition I'm not going to play dictator here, but I really think it'd be refreshing and new, and I think it suits the day-in, day-out nature of the sport more than the football-like setup we've used so far.

- I think 12 is perfect. If it is 14, I'm cool with it, but 12 worked out solidly last year.
-Rotisserie is a lot of fun. I'm in a rotisserie basketball league and it's more competitive than a head to head for us at least.
We had 14 last year, actually. But I agree, I'd prefer 12, provided nobody who wants to play is left out.
One nice thing that I just remembered: we don't need an even number of teams in a Roto league. 11, 13, whatever: we can have an odd number, if that's how it naturally comes out.
