I've actually been toying with a couple of other lists.

Hmmm. I'm intrigued. :D

Anyway Demolition Man is awesome. I loved Twister as a kid but it feels like forever since I actually watched the whole film, need to do so sometime. Not seen City of God but it's been on a radar for a while, just sounds like it could be quite harsh and brutal viewing

Oh and I've always had a bit of a crush on Helen Hunt as well. :yup:

Is that because of Mad About You? I saw you mentioned John Pankow when you reviewed To Live And Die In L.A.

The Last Seduction

A bit of a 90's cause celebre this one. 90's neo-noir at its finest, well, along with After Dark, My Sweet and The Grifters. A Oscar winner that should've been and Fiorentino a career that could've been? Surely she'd have, at least, got an Oscar nomination for this? However, despite its theatrical run, it'd been shown on tv first and, therefore, was ineligable. I think the same thing happened with Croupier.

Capricorn One

No idea when I first saw this, but it was probably a late night, BBC1 job. That, or a recording of such. Definately something I saw in my mid teens, as I remember talking about it at school, but it became a favourite 4 or 5 years later. The film itself, pretty much, has everything and it's a near perfect 70's conspiracy thriller. Great script and direction, compliment a superb cast, and a classic 70's cast, including 70's stalwarts Hal Holbrook and Karen Black.

Theatre Of Blood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGcT8gFzH14
I first saw this at a friend's when I was about 12. It was her step father's favourite film and he'd just found his copy after the move. I sat there delighted as the devilish, OTT, Edward Kendal Sheridan Lionheart destroys those who humiliated him in wonderfully imaginitive, Shakespeare inspired ways. I would imagine this is a favourite film of many a failed actor... And some successful ones, too. Vincent Price's best film?

Only seen one of those (Capricorn One) but as you'll have seen from my review I was a big fan of it. Didn't realise just how big a fan you were of it though.

Out of interest by the way, are these in any kind of order? For example, was Beavis and Butthead closer to making the list than Theatre of Blood? Or is it just random?

Is that because of Mad About You? I saw you mentioned John Pankow when you reviewed To Live And Die In L.A.

Yeah that's definitely where I first saw her and developed a bit of a 'weird' crush. As a result I always enjoy seeing her pop up in any film - Cast Away, What Women Want, As Good as it Gets, Twister

honeykid
11-14-12, 10:21 PM
Sorry, I should've said. No, these aren't in any order. On the previous page I included two films that I'd left off by mistake and the two that were bumped for two other films I remembered at the last minute. These, however, I don't really know how I'd place them. There's a few, City Of God being one, that might make the list had I seen it enough, but that was one of the reasons for putting a minimum number of viewings. Otherwise I could get carried away with something for the first time, only to be quite bored with it on the 5th or 6th time.

There are a lot of films which I liked from your list,so I won't even bother mentioning them as you will notice from my list.I will later recheck your list to put some films in my watchlist.
However, there are some movies in your list which I disliked or even disliked a lot such as Man Bites Dog(I like black humor but I found this one boring and even detestable),Citizen Kane,The Doors(ok ok,Peyote Trip scene is good :D),Good Will Hunting,Manchurian Candidate.

I'm glad to see Near Dark,Drugstore Cowboy,Ed Wood and Scarface, not many people like them. ;)

I liked a handful of the movies towards the bottom of your top 100, such as

the Thing
Halloween
an American Werewolf in London
Double Indemnity
the Empire Strikes Back
Unforgiven
Miller's Crossing
Seven Samurai

I guess that was where you hooked your audience at the beginning of the thread to keep them around :p

lol... I think a good few people were baffled/surprised by how many 'good' films I had on my list. I kept telling them it'd all change as it progressed. They're wonderful films, just not as wonderful and loved as those above them.

I should do some more write ups for those that didn't quite make the cut.

Thanks for taking the time, cricket. What are the +, - and * about?

As you seem to really like/love those that you've seen, I'd obviously recommend those you haven't. Especially as you gave 6/10 for Blood Feast. :D

I do everything on my iPhone, so I do a lot of copy and paste, which I understand sometimes brings out those symbols.

I saw the Manchurian Candidate remake and thought it was average. I'll watch the original if I see it on.

I saw part of Dangerous Liaisons and wasn't crazy about it despite loving the cast. I didn't see enough to rate it.

I think I saw some of Jay and Silent Bob but I'm not sure.

I was never interested in Before Sunrise but I'll watch it if it's on just because I hear so many great things about it.

I'll try to catch Les Diabolique if it's on.

Never heard of Jean Du Florette.

I'll watch The Haunting if I see it's on.

Same with Delores Clairborne.

Ginger Snaps is on cable; going to try and watch it this week. Maybe tonight if I can stay awake and my wife can stay asleep.

Will try Logan's Run if it's on.

No interest in Amelie.

I am interested in The Killer

Never heard of Three Colours: Blue.

Not interested in Monsters Inc., Duck Soup, or When Harry Met Sally.

Im open to All the President's Men and Double Indemnity.

I'm not familiar with Slacker, Everyone Says I Love You, Picnic at Hanging Rock, or The Cruel Sea.

I need to see Miller's Crossing and The Seven Samurai.

Not interested in Ed Wood, Rollerball, Clueless, or The Remains of the Day.

I saw some of Bull Durham and wasn't interested enough to watch it all.

I am interested in Flesh + Blood.

I know All Quiet on the Western Front is a classic so I should see that.

Never heard of La Reine Margot.

Not interested in Little Women.

Never heard of In the Shadow of the Moon.

I am interested in J.F.K. and The Way of the Gun.

I actually think I saw The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three. I think I liked it but don't remember too well.

Not really interested in Over the Edge or Romeo and Juliet. But not totally uninterested.

I want to see The Long Good Friday.

I would try This is Spinal Tap.

Never heard of For Your Height Only or The Battle of Britain.

Only saw about the first 5 minutes of Citizen Kane-probably need to see it.

Man Bites Dog is on my to see list.

I'd like to try The Straight Story and Gone With the Wind.

70. Jumpin' Jack Flash

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmOhsMEnGOQ

Honeykid just can't get enough of this Whoopi romp featuring hit music from The Rolling Stones. Carol Kane is positively wacky as her friend and co-worker and there's also amusing roles played by Annie Potts, Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman. Whoopi has never been better than when she was in Jumpin' Jack Flash. It really ought to be Honeykid's #1 favorite, but Honeykid decided to restrain himself.

I saw this and about jumped out of my skin in shock until I realized I had just fallen for my own joke.

Anyway, I just came to look at your entry for Pump Up The Volume. I see that you also like Foxy Brown, which is another favorite film of mine. Love the evil Katherine Wall:

Decided to look at your list again after you repped my Manhunter post to see if it was on your list, and after I discovered it was I continued to go through the posts, even though I have read your list before, paying more attention to the films :) It's a great list, and has some real favourites of mine in it. I love how high up you have Scream and This Is Spinal Tap, the first is a horror film that I really feel in love with for some reason although I don't like/haven't seen many slashers, and the latter is absolutely hilarious and I don't think it gets enough credit. I think I might have watched it partly because I knew you rated it on here, but I have seen it a few times now and like The Big Lebowski it's one of those films where the dialogue is more hilarious for me on each viewing.

You said that The Manchurian Candidate is the only Frank Sinatra film that you like. If you haven't seen them, you should give The Joker is Wild, Some Came Running, The Man with the Golden Arm and Suddenly a look.

Thanks. :) I've seen The Man With The Golden Arm and Some Came Running, but I don't think I've seen the other two.

I haven't seen the giallos enough times to see whether they'd make the list or not. Enough times? 99% movies on my list I saw only once.

Which is where we differ. On the first page you'll see I decided to only include films I'd see at least five times. That way, I have a better idea of which really are my favourites. It helps rule out films which I might like a lot more (or less) on the first couple of viewings, as well as easing the pressure to put in great films which I've only seen once or twice.

I'm the same. I think there were two movies on my list that I had only watched twice, but most of them I've seen multiple times. There is nothing on there that I've only seen once.

Separating new favorites that I've seen once, from old favorites I've seen many times, is proving to be a dilemma for me on the 70's list.

HK is probably 20 years older than you. So he had time to watch all his favorites many times.

Well, it also depends on watching preferences. I'd rather watch a new film that turns out a turd than rewatch a masterpiece.

True, and I'm sure that's played a part but I've not watched films regularly for the last 15 years. I started when I was 8, but when I found a film I liked, I watched it a lot. There's a few films not on my list that I've seens dozens of times as well as films I've seen mulitple times that I don't care for, just because of my sister. :D As Mino said, it's just a difference in the way we watch films.

Added your list to the Letterboxd page HK. Quite interesting list as I expected. You might be the only person that loves 90's movies and specifically '94 more than me. Of course you got a lot of the titles wrong.:p

nice list, i would like to mention something about the thing, it s a great horror thriller, one of the best sci fi thrillers, it has great atmosphere, the prequel doesn t even come close in terms of atmosphere built in the film, the whole music score, the eriee music, all makes up for one of the best sci fi horrors ever made, thanks to jerry goldsmith at the helm of music score. john carpenter direction is superb.

The real surprise should be that there are a few C21st films on the list. :D

98. Dangerous Liaisons

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbB2oBlP2uI

I really liked Cruel Intentions, but I think it was because I'd already seen and loved Dangerous Liaisons, that I liked it so much. This is, if you will, the 'proper' version of the story. I think I first saw this because my mum wanted to watch it, so I sat and watched it with her. TBH, I was mainly there for Uma Thurman (I'd already seen Baron Munchausen, which I didn't like, but remembered her. Obviously ;)) but it sounded like a good film, had been well reviewed and won Oscars, so I was more than happy to watch it. I've probably only seen it 7 or 8 times since, but each time I end up thinking, "I really should watch this film more often." I've not seen it for a good few years now, so I should take my own advice. I urge you to do the same.

LOVED Dangerous Liaisons...saw it for the first time a few moniths ago...Close and Malkovich were magnificent

Thanks for taking a look MovieFan1988 and Gideon58. It's nice to see the old list revived again. I do have a film which I could add to it now, so if the mood sits with me I might see if I can write something quick up.

Glad to see you enjoyed Dangerous Liaisons so much, Gideon.
