I've been here for a couple of months, so I guess I'm not brand new, fresh out of the jewel case.
I wanted to wait until I got to 100 posts to introduce myself. Don't know why, though. Maybe so I could case the joint, in case I needed to make a quick getaway.
At any rate, I go by the name quint. Not my real name, of course. I'm closer to 50 than 40. Been married over 20 years, have a handful of kids who make me laugfh every single day. I'm a blue collar worker.
That's pretty vague, I know, but I let someone know my name once, and it was frightening how much the found out about not just me, but my family, even my in-laws. So, lesson learned.
Moving on, you're probably not gonna find me in any political threads. Politics, to me, is as big a racket as any crime family ever dared to have. Politicians are all thieves & liars. They care about their only what benefits their party.
Speaking of which, I don't understand the whole 'party' thing. Left, far left, right, conservative, radical, etc, etc. My view is, check your frapping party at the door. First and foremost, you're American. That's your 'party'. Work on getting your party fixed. Sending a gazillion dollars to poor countries is commendable, but there are people starving every day right here.
Naive? Maybe. It's a nice thought, though. So, that's my view on politics.
Next, the 'issues'. Stem cell, abortion, the death penalty, etc, etc. I have my views, but I keep them to myself. Also, I respect others' views, even if I think it's an asinine view. I read through those types of threads where people argue and end up quoting sentence after sentence, picking apart wordage, proving their point, challenging others' point. Prove it! Where did you get that? You're wrong, here's a quote.
Man, that's exhaustive. I don't understand how someone gets so angry and upset and just plain mean, over someone they've never even met. Seems a waste of time and energy, trying to prove your point, or disprove someone else's.
You won't catch me in any of those threads, other than to maybe inject a little humor.
Speaking of which, my sense of humor, sometimes, comes from a weird angle. Like in the celebrity crush thread, I posted a picture of Betty Rubble. I thought it might get a chuckle, but instead, I think I killed the thread. Sigh.
I see there are some sports threads. I used to be a really big sports fan. Then, I got into coaching when my daughter started playing little league softball. I coached for a handful of years, and it was easily the most gratifying thing I've ever done.
To work with kids, and teach them how to play the game, and then see how happy they are when the make a good play, or get a base hit. Not a grand slam to win the game, but a simple grounder through the middle for a single. You can' put a price on that.
I got away from watching sports because I can't relate to it. A guy makes 6 million bucks a year, sits on the bench because he has a blister, when I've got a youngun crying because she twisted her ankle and she's not allowed to play. Big time sports is about money. Small time sports is about sportsmanship.

Anyway, I love movies. All genres, with the excetion of maybe slasher flicks. I'm glad to be here. I like the fact that I haven't seen any personal attacks. Of course, I haven't been in any political threads.:D
