Well, we have finally made it to our elite 8. Just me but I didn't see most of these movies making it this far, which in all honesty makes it more interesting anyways. So without further ado here is our Elite 8 Matchups:

I'm actually very surprised that The Battle Of Algiers is leading against Jaws. I was kind of hoping to see Persona and The Battle of Algiers battle it out.
And 2001 just steamrolled Goodfellas. Hurrah! 2001 and Dr.Strangelove for The Final 4!

And I too am a bit surprised by the turnout. I really thought 2001 and Goodfellas would be neck and neck, and like Tyler1 said, Battle of the Algiers beating Jaws? This is shocking.

That's because very few people here have seen The Battle of Algiers. That faceoff and the Persona/Rear Window one have fewer votes than the other two. It appears now that even with a very small core of fans, a lesser-seen film (at least here) can beat almost anything.

I guess that's what makes it fun though. It's nice to see that for the most part people have been honest also about what they've seen, making it an even playing field.

I completely disagree. It's not an even playing field at all. It's heavily skewed towards the 'art' end of the spectrum.

If everyone on the site had seen both Jaws and The Battle of the Algiers, do you really think Jaws would be losing? Ditto Rear Window vs. Persona. I think Rear Window's OK. I honestly can't remember if I've seen Persona or not (which is why I've not voted for or against it in any of its ties) however, I'm not going to wade through it, just so I can vote.

Also, as I've already said, for me the fun went out of this once most/all the 'fun' films were voted off.

I do like that people have been honest enough with their voting, though.

I said at the very beginning I didn't care what movie ultimately won. I just thought it would be fun to compare movies that I ordinarily wouldn't.

And it was fun, for a little while.

Anyways, it looks to me like 2001 has a good shot. That's okay, I guess, but there are plenty of other films I'd put above it, epic highbrow piece of cinema though it is.

To be honest, any of the eight films could be winning their matches and I wouldn't consider it "me losin'". As I already said, they're all great films. Maybe a little bit of me is spiteful now that I see all these comments...**** it.

Hahahahahaha! Losers! Take that Hitchcock! You suck even though you're one of my favourite directors. And Jaws...Bite me! You deserved to lose. Being one of the best summer blockbusters ever and having all those classic scenes that can always brings a smile to my face means nothing now.

True indeed. I've already made my opinion on Persona plenty well known, but Dr. Strangelove is sub-par compared to Kubrick's other films and I haven't even seen Battle of Algiers.

Also you can't really get elitist vibes from a thread started by VOTES. Other people know what they like too, and what that is happens to be "so called art films", it means the same as when you say it. The tournament, regardless of the results, was set up fairly. It's strange that people are getting so worked up about this, the results aren't tattoos.
