I'll keep it short and sweet: I checked out the premiere of "American Horror Story" last night on FX - and I'm totally diggin' it!

Did anyone else watch it? What do you think so far?

Totally ripped off, but they executed it pretty well. I will watch a couple more!

I agree, it's not original in the slightest - but as you said, it's well done.

Jessica Lange's character gives me creeps!

See was great! Anytime she was on screen she was just nailing it.

It's something different than all the other shows I watch, and I liked it. I guess I'll probably stick with it for now.

If it can keep the ratings steady, therefore making it 'worth watching' by the time it gets over here, then I'll give it a go.

OK, so we're 3 episodes in...I'm still hooked and this show has exceeded my expectations (so far) :D

Anyone else keeping up? Thoughts/opinions?

Catching up on them today, first two I've just watched have been genuinely creepy. Definitely best Fall show i've seen so far. Don't see it having legs to go past one season mind.

I'm a fan. It's been great so far!

Yeah, i've enjoyed it but seem to assume every character is a ghost, not that that's a criticism. Dennis O'Hare's character could be either, the character that left at the end of ep3, I thought she was one, though turns out not. Suppose Lange isn't either. Yet they all seem to inhabit the same 'other'world that it's got quite an unsettling tone where there's no certainty. One question is, though, who's paying Taint's therapy fees?

Oh! Thought he wrote 'taint' on the wall and it that was his name.

Yeah, I thought he was a ghost, that's my point! Who pays his bills??

Yeah, I haven't quite figured out the whole ghost thing yet. Because each character - ghost or not - reacts with the environment as if they were alive. There's no real distinguishable separation between the real world and the ghost world (which is part of the reason why this show is so interesting). I think that the house itself makes these entities 'come alive,' which is why Ben, Vivien, & Violet interact with them.

With that said, here's my guesses in regards to who's alive and who's dead:

- The maid, Moira: Dead.
- Tate: Dead.
- Larry, muderous burned-face man: Dead.
- Constance, the bitchy neighbor: Alive.
- Adelaide, daughter of Constance: Alive.

See, I think Larry is alive. For one, he's only one who's been seen outside the house. Two, he's physically interacted with another character, of course, assuming she's alive to start. I agree on last two only because they seem to have aged since flashbacks. Moira is obvious as we saw her die, however the personalities of the two seem very disparate as older Moira seems to only want to serve the house, whereas younger slutty Moira seems to thrive on causing trouble- mixed motives.

Tate, could be either until we see more. His interactions seem to cover a lot more of the family, plus was he mentioned in the statement to police after the home invasion? Would have thought they'd want to check on that.

See, I don't think that Moira has a split personality. I think that Ben sees her the way he does because of his past history of infidelity. He's projected his own personal flaws onto her, which is why he sees the slutty house maid. And in the flashback, it was obvious that Moira was an innocent victim, rather than a come-hither seductress.

That was in a roundabout way what I was trying to get at, the old Moira seems like the actual character and fits with her past glimpse and the younger one doesn't fit that character type. It was quite specifically spelled out when she said 'men see what they want to see' but it was more the logistics of it, is Moira encouraging this apparition of herself or is it entirely in Ben's mind? I can't work out how aware she is of this, there was the sub-plot of her drugging him which somehow led him to attempt to dig up her bones (which would somehow 'release' her).

I don't think he was mentioned. I seem to remember Violet thanking her Dad for not mentioning him to the police.

I think Tate is the ghost of Constance's son. I thought that when she was telling Vivian about her children. But then that begs the question, who was Ben talking to on the phone when he called Tate's mother?

I'm liking it so far. I just hope it plays out as well as it has the potential to. I also don't know how they can keep this up for more than two seasons, which makes me apprehensive. I hate getting into a series only to have it canceled.

Yeah, I hope they don't get into a hole with Tate, I don't get the impression when he was introduced he was always intended to be part of the ghost story.

I don't mind if it gets cancelled, I'd be happy with a solid single season. There's only so many plausible plots they get spin with it, hopefully there won't be a new murder-back-story every week

Last episode was a bit of a mess. Like they're expanding the focus and enjoyed Tate's storyline but there was a lot inconsistencies and awkward moments. Would like to see them develop some form of antagonist arc, that beast in the basement for one or the lore of the house. I'll stick with it and hope that was a blip of an episode but it needs to pick it's game up

I still can't make up my mind whether or not I am going to like this. Tate is an interesting character and I do like his story arc, if they slow down and let it happen. There are elements in any given episode that should be entire episodes unto themselves so that we can really get involved and care what happens. Every time I start to get interested in something it's on to the next. Too many ingredients in this stew. :)

On another note I thought Taissa Farmiga (Violet) was Vera's daughter, but is her sister. Huge age difference though. They look very much alike.

I was speaking about in real life. The actress that plays Violet is Vera Farmiga's sister.

Tate is Adelaide's brother/Constance's son?! Didn't see that coming at all.

Have a theory on Tate. The dead cheerleader told him, 'I should be 34 right now.' If that's true, then Tate should be around the same age, too, assuming that he has continued to live. So - I think that Tate killed himself after committing the mass murder. He's always wearing long sleeve shirts, perhaps he slit his wrists? Maybe he's stuck in some kind of purgatory, which explains why he can interact with the living, even outside of the Murder House property?

Okay, this is way late... but I am watching the first season of this show on Netflix right now. (And I mean RIGHT now... Episode 6 of the first season is on in the background.)

We've just found out about Tate's background/history. It's a great, fun show done very well, despite using every cliche in the book. They just carry everything to the logical extreme, and I'm enjoying the fun of it all.

Unsure how long the show will last, but so far it's great fun. Jessica Lange is brilliant, as usual, and everyone else is well cast. All the haunted house stories rolled into one.

Oh, and let me add: I am getting a kick out of seeing so many actors from HBO series on this show. They're all over the place!

It took me about 8 episodes before I started to engage with this. Had I not already had them recorded, I wouldn't have bothered carrying on. It was ok. Watched a couple of the second series and it's the same. The difference being, I don't have them recorded and can't be bothered to go through it again.

Season 2 is even better. Absolutely pillages horror tropes but does in such a ridiculous, yet horrific way- it works

Pyro, good to know! The second season isn't on Netflix yet, but I think since it's more current I might actually find it on the TV's OnDemand feature with Comcast/xfinity...

... once hubby leaves for work today. ;)

I don't know why I watched the entire first season yesterday, except that it was so easy to sit and crochet while telling Netflix to simply play the next episode.... :) I think the good cast and just enough plot twists kept me engaged. Didn't see the twist with Violet coming at all, but of course it was so obvious, wasn't it?

Okay, so OnDemand has season two right now, but only starting with episode 7 and up, since they tend to scroll off older episodes of everything after a while.

Netflix doesn't have season two yet. Any clues where I can legally watch the first six episodes online?

Great finale for season 2, I would have to say I personally loved this season more than the last.:)

I watched Season one.

Not bad at all. A few things that struck me as pretty lame about the writing.

Early on when the dad tried to fire the maid she said you can't fire me! I'll sue you, etc etc but they were having all these money problems. That didn't make any sense at all but no one brought it up.

The mom was desperate to get out of the house after people broke in an nearly killed her.. but then when she has martial problems she makes the dad move out of the house and she stays in it?!? What the hell is she staying there for instead of him. Really weak stuff.

Overall it was enjoyable.

Started on the Season Two…

A Mad scientist, Ed-Gein style serial killer, alien abductions, and demonic possession all in one show LOL

Season one was alright, a bit cheesy and some of the plot points were meh overall it was an alright watch, didn't see much of season two, but the idea was intriguing. Season 3 was good, I liked the witchcraft angle, it's probably my favourite season. Do not like season 4, the concept did nothing for me, I only saw a couple episodes of Hotel, but it was pretty good. Gonna wait until I can watch it all on demand.

Season Two now complete.
I like how they do happy or bittersweet endings for this show instead of dark endings.

Season two was a lot better than season 1. Instead of ghosts we had nearly everything and the kitchen sink. Can't forget to have a nurse ratchet in the asylum too. There's nothing terribly original or grounding breaking here, but it borrows for so many famous mythos at once that it's entertaining to see them all interact together.

Season Three hey it's chanel from scream queens! [looks up her name] emma roberts.
That sounds familiar. [looks up imdb]

Hmm I really liked her in scream queens but not so much in We're in the Millers.
She was the only character in screen queens i liked, i would fast forward to her parts and they were always entertaining.

Looks like she has found her voice.

Season Three kinda meh for me. i like witches but it wasn't nearly as good as season 2.

Saw the first episode of season 4 and I've moved on to a different show instead.
I got bored with american horror story.

This series always seemed off to me whenever I tried to watch an episode, with feelings that they are trying to hard to make it dramatic/scary/etc. Significant other convinced me to watch the first episode of the new Delicate season last night, and my impression remains the same. Kim K just makes it worse...
