LOL>..
I jsut spent the last 30 minutes listening to my husband beg me to do thing s to him like:
"GOD JUST SHOOT ME"
"OH MY EYES... GOUGE THEM OUT NOW!"
plus great little comments about the charactors' sexual orientations... LOL... I wont bother to post them here, you fill in the blanks...
hahaha...
Thats right I forced him to sit through some of Rocky Horror Picture Show... LOL...
You guys love it or hate it?
It's fun to watch. That's my basic feeling on the subject. :D I'm not particularly enthralled with it, but the music is infectious.

A drag queen smilie? Chris, may I make one?
I had this period where I loved Rocky Horror after somebody gave me the DVD for my birthday. I ended up getting the soundtrack and the poster, and then I played a satanic transvestite in a video with some friends (dancing to "Time Warp" on my bed with a girl, lip-synching to "Sweet Transvestite", then trying to hump someone to "Creature of the Night").
It's a great, hysterical film, sometimes endearing, and a fabulous musical. I can't believe it's Richard O'Brien's baby, cause I thought his "Riff Raff" character was the lamest thing about the film. I didn't become a cult follower of this movie though... but I'd like to have the talking Frank N Furter doll.

I have a friend who does Sweet Tranvestite like you wouldn't believe...
I think that from that song until the meal at the table ["Happy birthday to you..."] the film is a bit nyeh, and then towards the end, after the pool sequence it's a bit nyeh again. The pieces that work work.

The little Inde theater in my town, shows Rocky Horror every halloween. People dress up like transvestites and sing along to all the songs...it's a riot. I go every year. :yup:

anyways. I love this movie. Just saw it last night, actually this morning. 12:00 it was on. Got is recorded on Tivo. I love the songs, i think it would be awesome to go to the theatre where they are showing this and dress up. It would be a blast. I watch this on tv every chance i get. I cant even remember when i first saw this movie, ive seen it that many times.
Its almost like a modern day Sound of Music. Anyone who likes music or just wants a different taste in a movie should watch this. Though with the sexual content it isnt good for the kiddies.
This is a great movie! Just to think they only had a couple of weeks and a budget of only $1 Million..
:)  :yup:

Same kinda stuff happens out here. People dress up and bring all sorts of crazy stuff. Most of them bring pieces of toast, for example, and when the line "a toast," is uttered, they all fling their toast toward the front.

This movie was great. I like the weirdness of this movie. My boyfriend doesn't like that musical type of stuff. I like the time warp song and dance that they do.
Although Susan Surandon(name spelled right) was different in this role.

Sarandon. This is the only flick I've seen her in in which I've found her genuinely attractive.

Make your heart start pumping red blood, man.
:yup:
Gimme a break. She hasn't aged particularly well. I don't know what all the fuss is about...she didn't look all that great in Bull Durham...she looked, I dunno...worn out is the only phrase I can think of. If being attracted to a wide variety of women BESIDES this one means I lack red blood, then so be it.

I think Sarandon's aged extremely well, and in many ways is sexier in her fifties than she was in her twenties.
But very happily, there are lots of types of women to go around and excite us all.

Am I the only one here old enough to have seen this in the theatre back when it was first doing its round in the '70s? Yes, back then it played usually late at night, and lots of folks dressed up as favorite characters and stood at the front of the theatre and acted out the scenes as they went along.
And everyone came in with bags of props to use at certain spots during the movie: the toast Chris mentioned; a newspaper to hold over your head when it rained, squirt guns to make it rain on the heads of those with (or without) the newspapers; rolls of toilet paper to throw -- and the list goes on.
And the audience talks back to the screen all the time. During one scene where a character (played by Meat Loaf) is killed and then fed to other people, the audience yells out in unison, "MEAT LOAF AGAIN??"
Although many of the folks there went to every showing every weekend, with their props and costumes, we only went that once, and not in costume. (We felt like freaks, ha!) It was the most unique movie experience I've ever had.
More recently, when I saw that it was being shown on a movie channel on TV, I tried to sit and watch it to relive that fun. It just wasn't the same. In fact, I hadn't realized just how bad the film is (beyond campy into waste-of-time) without the props, the theatre experience, and the devotees. It's funny for a while, but then just gets too long toward the end.
Oh well. A fun experience once, but not enough to sustain itself alone.

Thanks for sharing your experiance.
They still do all that stuff, and its awesome!
:D
Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong decade though, (so does my dad) since I love ALL the old horror movies late 70-early 80, and really enjoy old tv shows ect....
I just wanted to say, i you havenet gone to a showing and DRESSED UP, then you are missing out on some fun.

They used to show rocky horror every halloween with a pre show. but they got tired of claning up the mess and they don't do it no more, lame
i cant really say Rocky Horror did much for me, it was funny but is slowly becoming outdated so far its only just staying a classic

The movie will always have a cult statis. It's actually quite a phenomenom, I've alway liked it.
No offense to anybody, but RHPS sound horrible to me. A guy in his mid-thirties in drag is funny? I dunno... maybe it's just me and Naisy. We're in this together, and no matter what, we will stay true to our non-RHPS beliefs! :yup:

You might be right. and the movie takes getting used to.
When I first went to the RHPS it was in New York City with friends to the 8th street playhouse theatre. Sal Mineo ran the show there and he had a preshow show. the audence interactions were unlike anything I had ever seen.
Then the auduience participation and stage show while the movie was going could best be described as a ritual dancing and singing ceremony combined with a hurling of insults at what was considered white bread americana and the vindication of what was forbidden at the time.
If you just watch the video you don't get the full impact of what the whole RHPS experience was about.
For us young teenagers it was a way to express ourselves.
However Tim Curry exudes a certain sexual charm that cannot be nailed down to description alone.
I say find a good participation script on-line, gather some friends on a weekend night, get some libations(stong ones) and try and use the lines (modify them if they are out of date), dance and sing along, and MYST the film to your hearts content.
At worst you will have a fun night of drunkenly bashing the movie with friends. at best you might understand what the movie did for teens of that generation.

used to? why do you need to get used to a transvestite alien scientist? why would you WANT to?

did this rituals involve sacrificing a small goat becaause quite frankly all i can see is a bunch of people going :dizzy: CRAZY, LOCO, not the full quid, a few sausages short of a BBQ.

Well im not sure what it was about, and i dont want to know, if feeling my food rise up my throat wasnt the full "impact" than i dont really think i could handle the full impact

umm i was a young teenager when i viewed the movie and i cant really say it expressed anything about me AT ALL and im only 17 now days, so i wouldnt say im really old.

i think  is quite a reasonable description :yup:

hmmmmm im afraid i dont think i will understand EVER, call it subborness, ignorance, pathetic, whatever you will but i just cant figure it out.
i REALlY mean this, this wasnt a personal attack on you Az, just some things i had to say

Just curious AzhrarnX...how old were you when you went to the RHPS for the fist time? I checked your profile (as I always do when someone posts something interesting ) and it puts you in my age group (I was born in '68 and yours says you are a '67 kid).
The reason I ask is that the movie came out in 1975 and Sal Mineo, the actor I assume you are referring to in your post died around 1976 - so you must have been quite young then?
If that's the era we're talking about, I was wondering if a lot of what the Rocky Horror Show was all about went over your head - or whether it was the audience participation and dressing up etc that you remember most. That would indeed have been quite trippy for a kid.

Naisy...Don't knock it unless you try it. I've gone locally to our midnight showings and it's a blast. It's all about partying, not celebrating transvestites, sheesh. Everyone plays along, screams and throws ***** at the screen, smokes their doobie snacks, and just cuts loose. You don't have to wear fishnets to have fun there.
Well if its all about partying, than how is it a movie that allows us to express ourselves, a party is fun, not an artistic expression, im not knocking party’s just knocking the movie, I could think of a lot better movies to party on with. *Shrugs* I guess its whatever takes your fancy

You're, of course, allowed your opinion, just like everyone else. I was just making a point that it's just fun to go see. Unless you've actually gone to a midnight matinee, then you've never experienced the movie. You may have seen it, but not experienced it. As far as the expressing yourself theme, I haven't done the dress up thing. I dress in my leather, but thats it. The girlfriend I had at the time liked to dress up as Magenta. She tried to get me to dress up then, but I was to embarrassed to do it. Now? I dunno...maybe:blush: I mean, I've done karoke, and I never dreamed I'd ever do that.

The time I went (late '70s when it was all the rage), we didn't dress up at all. We didn't even really bring any props. And, even though we still had a blast watching everyone else (what a great place to 'people-watch'), we would have had more fun if we had brought toast, newspaper, toilet paper, and other props that are part of the 'talk back to the screen' experience.
The theatre experience takes going to the movies to an odd sort of interactive mode. Wild, and yes, fun.
Watching the movie years later on video was almost a bore in comparison. This movie only works with all the freaks and audience participation when you go see it live.

The DVD actually has a subtitle track that tells you when you are supposed to interact with the film. It is really quite something...

Actually the first time I saw it I was about 13 (1980) then the next time I went I was 16, I was in high school. The show was quite developed by that time. :)
Oh and My flubb
The Show was run By Sal Piro not Sal Mineo
My bad.
Actually here is a Quote by Sal Piro himself
To the unenlightened (virgins to us) arises the question: What is all the fuss about the Rocky Horror Picture Show? From hordes of fans around the world come varied replies and responses. The answers are varied because the fans themselves have created this 'Fuss', and the reason for everyone's response to Rocky Horror is particularly personal to them.
For the first time in cinematic history, the audiences have attached themselves to a film so strongly that they have actually taken over. These audience participants talk back to the screen, make-up and dress as the characters, utilize props and parallel the film's action.
This phenomenon goes beyond the physical routines of the participants. What makes it so infectious is the theatres, the sense of creativity and expression that is brought forth and the outright fun and excitement of it all. Most importantly, a feeling of love pervades this cult as they give themselves over to pleasure and exhort the philosophy of becoming all the things they have dreamed. This response has invaded the 80s and continues in the outlook of all Rocky's followers throughout their lives.

Yeah and the first time was real trippy:D

Let's Do the Time Warp Again
Cult movie musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show is set for a makeover with a new celebrity cast and new tunes. Impressario Lou Adler, who produced the legendary 1975 movie hit, starring Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry, is putting the finishing touches to a new cast list, and he hopes to have a new TV movie version of Rocky Horror ready for Halloween 2003. Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert moviemaker Stephan Elliott is on board to direct the remake, while Moulin Rouge composer Marius De Vries has been signed up to add original music. Adler admits the project has taken a long time to come together because he has been unable to find a replacement for Curry, who played outrageously camp Frank N Furter in the original. The producer says, "I just never found the right person but now I have. We're going to wait until March and then probably do it for next Halloween." No casting details have been released, although speculation in Hollywood suggests Marilyn Manson is a frontrunner for the Frank N Furter role.

I saw this a total of once in theaters (My girl at the time made me go) and it was so fun! I laughed my head off the entire time! I have seen it numerous times on video since then, but haven't gone to the theater in a while. I gotta go again. Anyone who hasn't gone MUST go. It rocks. I didn't dress up when I went and got toast thrown at me. I don't know if this is common, but I'm just warning you now....

It's very common Dante.
Which cast did you go to see and when did you see them? (I belogn to a Rocky Horror cast). I'm glad you enjoyed it! I know I was hooked after my frist time and started going almost every week.
Love,
Danielle :p
RH rocks. If ur a nubee, it's best seen (in the theatre) with @ least 1 freind who's seen it b4.
Many of my friends hadn't seen it, and I would show them the video first, with full participation effex. as I am both straight and boring the shock value is GREAT! also I'm so noisy they get pissed 'cause they can't hear a bloody thing. This forces them to go out and rent it for themselves to find out just what is going on. Then I take them to c it "live" at halloween. that's it, nolo contondre, they're hooked. every last one of them! Some are a little unsure (egowise) of their sexual identity, it's funny as hell to watch them vacillate about liking the movie, the rest of us call them "Brads" By the way, the photographer in the wedding scene runs the drama dept. @ my local university and sometimes shoes @ the theatre when we bring down the cast from Edmonton.
Anyhoo, I got a problem with the DVD. It works on the standalone player w/ my TV, but my comp player only does the menus, even the links section doesn't work. All my other DVD's play (about a hundred of 'em) tried different players nfg, ran Dr Watson reports a frankenfurter codec error so redownloaded the toaster and reinstalled it, same as b4. appears to be an error in the audio codec portion.
Can anyone help?
maybe copy protection?
has anyone heard of anything like this?
Nobody likes me (except Columbia and Tank Girl)
