I've only seen 16 new ones this year. These are the top 8 (not in any particular order after Inception) so far:
Inception
The Tempest
Ghost Writer
How to Train Your Dragon
Iron Man 2
Shutter Island
The Killer Inside Me
127 Hours
The movies that ive seen this year that stick out in my brain are: (keep in mind ive seen a lot of movies this past year, so im only naming the ones that really stick out)
Inception- Which was phenomenal, and deserves to be recognized for screenplay AT LEAST...
Black Swan- Insanely visually stunning and well directed. The story is amazing and the performances by not only Natalie Portman, are unreal.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World- Easily the funniest movie I've seen all year. The effects and visuals really made me feel like I was watching a video game. Hilarious and the cast is fantastic.
The Social Network- Very well directed and is brilliant. Its a movie that completely identifies with our generation, no matter if you use facebook or not, love it or hate it, or identify with facebook at all. Facebook is a part of the way we socialize now, and has forever changed the way we will ever socialize again. I think everyone should watch this movie, as it is going to be part of history and film roster forever.
Hey Pro :) noce to see you :yup:
OHH and i forgot to mention some of the animated ones as well!!
By far the best animated film ive seen this year is:
How To Train Your Dragon- The concept and story of this movie is so well written and showcased. I wanted to be in this movie, i wanted a pet dragon and it was very emotional. The story was beautiful and by far deserves an oscar this year for best animated film.
Toy Story 3- well done on finishing the series of movies with this one. Toy story 3 is the best toy story, and also deserves some sort of recognition. Beautiful way to end this story of toys that come to life.
And I just wanted to add to the social network blurb i made above. The soundtrack is impeccable!! Trent Reznor deserves an Oscar for best score. The soundtrack made this movie come to life and really kept me wanting more.

Top 10 Films of 2010
10 - Daybreakers
(Dark , Original and nothing like Twilight. Well acted , good use of lighting and cinematography. A Gritty Vampire Film to get your teeth into.)
9 - Lymelife
(Was released in 2010 in UK. Just loved this film to bits. Acting in it is some of its best since The Godfather. Great story , fabulous writing and directing and a underrated cult classic.)
8 - The Runaways
(Great biopic. Stewart & Fanning are great in this especially Fanning. Good songs by The Runaways too. Also gives you that 80s rock feeling too.)
7 - Scott Pilgram Vs The World
(Great film here and probably Edgar Wright's best. He knows how to do comedy very well and this film is no expectation. Michael Cera is genius in this and The Evil Exs are downright brilliant.)
6 - The American
(Very chilling film. Clooney once again has potential for Oscar Buzz. Great moody story set in Europe. Marvelous acting and directing from all sides. Need to see this and hope its recognised.)
5 - Toy Story 3
(Surprised myself its so low on the this. I will say that this film makes Toy Story The Greatest Trilogy Of All Time. Both 100% Flicks with this maybe being the best. Ending brought me to tears and still does.)
4 - The Social Network
(Marvelous film. Wonderful direction , writing , acting , cinematography , score. I wouldn't be surprised if this won Best Picture because it truely was wonderful.)
3 - Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 1
(Not the best Potter Film but by far one of the best films of the year. The End is most definately coming and this film really gives us this feeling that something much darker is on its way.)
2 - Inception
(Original and a masterpiece. Nolan's finest work and one step closer to Oscar Potential. If Nolan doesnt get it this year , Dark Knight Rises is his last hope. Anyway if you havent seen it...SEE IT!)
1 - Easy A
(My Favourite Film of The Year. It has everything i like in a Teen Film. Original Plot , Characters and All the teen cliches you could bathe in. Emma Stone i could classify as a star now , but her career is only beginning. Easy A - My Pick For Favourite Film Of The Year.

Wait? If not Inception, then the 3rd Batman film is Nolan's "last hope" of an Oscar?!?! My God, have we fallen so far? If that's true, then he might as well retire with Soderbergh in 2013.
Just to let you know, Easy A is The Scarlett Letter. Not that that makes it any better or worse, just passing on knowledge. :)

maybe it isn't Nolan's last hope , but Inception comes close for Nolan because Inception made millions and it was original. He should have had something for Memento , but he was just starting out at the time. Maybe he will have future chances , but with these two films , its only right he deserves something now or for The Dark Knight Rises.
I am aware that Easy A bares resemblance to The Scarlett Letter , but it put a fresh original spin on it. Plus The Cast is great.
Daybreakers wasn't terrible. How in lord was it terrible when it is nothing like Twilight ?
I agree. Runaways could have been better , but it was still good.

...yeah why not. Twilight really to me destroyed the meaning of a vampire. Shining in the light , Love over Sucking Bloods. The Volturi ? Worst Villians In Cinema. Daybreakers was realistic (To an extend) , dark , grim and neonoir in a way. I liked it and if you didn't your opinion.
Maybe it is a literal adaption , but they modernised it which is sort of original.

12-24-10, 11:05 AM
You shouldn't even compare films to Twilight or they'll all seem damn good. Daybreakers is just another film with a good concept that failed to run when it hit the ground, offering nothing new to the mythos. Besides Let The Right One In there hasn't been a truly good vampire film in decades (Underworld and Blade are rather fun but not really cinematic gold).

An Oscar means jack *****. A great film doesn't need such an award in order for film lovers and critics to applaud it. Why does Nolan need an Oscar? His latest two films have grossed excellent numbers domestically and abroad + they have received almost universal critical acclaim. How exactly would an Oscar raise his profile?
Scorsese didn't get an Oscar until The Departed; Pacino didn't get one until Scent of a Woman; Hitchcock never got one. Their legacies aren't hurt by it.
Screw the Oscars. They're just a charade.

Hi, Badge! You aren't going to the Rose Bowl, are you? Hitch's Rebecca did win an Oscar, but producer David O. Selznick won it, giving him two in a row, after the previous year's GWTW.
Dracula: Pages From a Virgin's Diary. Just saying.
Sure, it's a cool flick. I wonder how it might compare to/contrast with this year's The Black Swan...

Top Ten Films of 2010
10. How to Train Your Dragon
A nice surprise, I didn't expect much from this one but went anyone because a friend of mine raved about it. It was entertaining and manages to be one of the better animated films from Dreamworks.
9. Shutter Island
Even though I went in knowing the ending from the trailer, this film did not disappoint. Scorsese dives into one of my favourite genres and makes a good spine tingler.
8. Scott Pilgrim VS The World
Hyper kinetic and faithful to the source material. The perfect match for Edgar Wright and piece that shines a light on Canada.
7. Barney's Version
A Canadian film that doesn't disappoint. It's heartfelt and endearing. Giamatti is great in this role and continues to prove why he is a great actor that deserves more recognition.
6. The Town
Ben Affleck showed us what he was capable of doing behind the camera with his first effort, this time he proved to us it was not a fluke. The Town boasts good performances and dedicated peoples to the craft.
5. Black Swan
Beautiful dancing, striking horror and an unnerving experience that says with you for days. Portman shines in the lead role and gives the role her all.
4. The Fighter
Bale is magnificent in the role of the crack addicted brother to Mark Walhberg. Melissa Leo shines as their mother who tries to do good but is actually harming the family. The film is not really about boxing, but more about the family behind this particular story.
3. Toy Story 3
I didn't think it could be possible, a third film in a series that is more than a decade old. Pixar did it though, they managed to bring heart, adventure and fun back to the hearts of those who loved the original and those who weren't even born yet.
2. The Social Network
How could a film about a guy who makes a popular website be any good? Let Sorkin write the script and Fincher direct. While this was not my favourite film of the year, it will most likely win the best picture awards, something that I can live with.
1. Inception
Leave it to Nolan to give us the film of the year. Despite the concept being multi-layered and taking you to another realm of 'reality' the film is pretty easy to follow and gives you an ending that sparks debate.
Honorable Mentions: Kick Ass, The Kids Are Alright, Buried, Easy A.
The Worst Of 2010
10. Shrek Forever After
A film that is totally unnecessary. A WHAT IF, type film that is a pure cash cow and an attempt to make right what was wrong with the third film.
9. Unrivaled
A poor man's Rocky. Poor acting, writing, direction and nudity for the sake of it. If I weren't in it, it'd be a little bit lower.
8. A Nightmare on Elm Street
All this film is about are the jump scares. Even the new take on Freddy is a tad hollow.
7. Alice in Wonderland
I figured this was a perfect match: project & director. Yet what Burton gave us was a shallow film that has too much going on and not enough substance. It didn't help that the lead actress was more wooden than a plank.
6. Hereafter
The film that tries so hard and fails in so many places. Out of the three stories it tells, only one is interesting and the film as whole goes around in circles with no clear indication of what it wants.
5. Grown Ups
With such a funny cast, how is it that the film doesn't invoke laughter? Sandler is playing to the dumb crowd and making millions.
4. And Soon The Darkness
I checked this one out because I like Karl Urban and I thought the premise would be entertaining enough for 90 minutes. Karl Urban's character is useless and the film is full of cliches and bad acting. Even with moderate to low expectations the film will disappoint.
3. Dinner For Schmucks
The film just wasn't funny, not at all. Paul Rudd was the straight man, with Carell doing all the funny. A couple smirks from the supporting comedic players is not enough for this unfunny film.
2. A Serbian Film
Total garbage, no artistic merit and vomit inducing. Don't even watch it because you want to see how far they go, the film is simply stupid.
1. Jonah Hex
What a piece of garbage. The film is 80 some odd minutes with 8 to 10 minutes of credits. It had no idea what it wanted to be, instead it's a poor man's Wild Wild West. When Wild Wild West is a better film, you know you're in trouble.
More Bad Films: The Expendables, Altitude, Get Him To The Greek, Smokin Aces 2, Resident Evil: Afterlife.

TUS, how did you manage to sit through those 10 crap films? Surely you could see going in that they were going to suck? Though I will concede that I could see Hereafter may have something to it, but I still expect it to be pretentious, preachy, "all you need is love" crap. The number is 26. That's the amount of Oscar nominations the last three major films Martin Scorsese directed - which all starred Leonardo DiCaprio - earned. Needless to say, the Scorsese/DiCaprio combination has been a critical and financial powerhouse, which makes the prospect of a horror-thriller such as Shutter Island so intriguing.

That's a hefty amount of nominations for Scorsese, but Shutter Island didn't receive any of them. Even though I did enjoy Shutter Island quite a bit, it just wasn't as a rewarding follow-up to The Departed.

The Karate Kid? Come on, it sucks.
And why isn't District 9 and/or TRON: Legacy on your list?
Going out on a limb here, could be wrong, but...
Personal opinion?
Because District 9 was in 2009 and TRON: Legacy Sucked!!! haha.
Oh right, forgot that :D
But TRON: Legacy did not suck. You probably didn't watch the first one then? I just think that you haft to appreciate the first one, to appreciate Legacy.

So you have to "appreciate" a crap film to like the related crap film? I guess that's true. :D

Yeah that would probably be it :D

Legacy didn't live up to the first one. I wouldn't say it sucked, but it wasn't particularly great either.

The best thing about Tron: Legacy was the soundtrack. End of story.

Absolutely, the score music by Daft Punk is so memorable. Hypnotised me during the film.
Check it's rottentomatoes rating its certified fresh. I seriously think it's the best Farrell film out there besides Elf but that's just my taste. This is by far the best made laugh out loud comedy of 2010.
I didn't think much of it at all and certainly wouldn't put it anywhere near a Top Films of the year list and his best goes to Stranger Than Fiction. :p
But then, I thought Tron Legacy was fabulous. :) Not on a top films list though. I haven't even seen the first film! shock horror.
As for the rest of your list:
1. The Social Network - Fabuloussssssssssssssssssss
4. The Town - Fabulousssssssssssss
5. Shutter Island - Fabulousssssssssss
6. The Fighter - Fabulousssssssssss
7. Catfish - Didn't think much of this 'documentary'.
9. The King's Speech - Fabuloussssssssss of course
10. The Other Guys - Meh
12. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - Fabulousssssssss
13. Inception - Fabuloussssssssssss
14. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 - Fabuloussssssss
16. Kick-ass - Fabulousssssssssss
17. The Karate Kid - Was surprised by this, thought it would be awful, decent movie.
19. The Runaways - Disappointing
The fabuloussssssss' in bold I would have on a top 10/20 list.
Sorry, I'm bored lol.

I didn't like The King's Speech, but that fact that it actually won Best Picture over other films that actually deserved just makes me hate it.

Were you that surprised about the win? "The King's Speech" was pure Oscar-bait my friend!
You see, it had all the essential elements:
- the protagonist who has to overcome some sort of physical/mental obstacle
- the sweet supportive wife with a cheeky sense of humor
- the quirky side character with a big heart who helps the protagonist
I think the general public felt compelled to like this movie simply because of all the praise it received...and then throw in the Oscar win and you've got America fooled.
For me, "The King's Speech" was just okay - 7.5/10

It just somewhat blindsided me, because up until the last few weeks before the Oscars it looked as if The Social Network was going to get. The Social Network was much more deserving of the award, too.

Social Network was good but not deserving of an Oscar.

The Kings Speech may have been inherently Oscar bait but I don't think it was particularly made with that intent like some films, which is about the only reason I was pleased to see Bumdog Millionaire win.

completely agree. I mean I understand everyone could relate to it, but I don't think it should have won

It's never about deserving it, is it?
It's about the vote of the group of people that are voting.
Otherwise everyone could say this film should have won or that film shouldn't have... as for me, I think it did deserve it! :D

Really Prince of Persia is in your worst movies and The Expendables are in your best. I don't agree with that.
