First impressions last, perhaps.

If that is so, if that is the case, then going back through the posts, what impression did you leave? What impression did you try to leave? What was the thread? The post? If you had that first post again, what would you change?

So.
Me:

What impression did you leave?
That of a know-it-all kid with some damned crack potted views on the mainstream for one. An argumentative little sh*t for two.

What impression did you try to leave?
That one. I wasn't planning on coming back at all.

What was the thread?
The Best Animated Movie (http://www.movieforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) Thread.

The post?
Hi.
New here.

My favorite animated film would have to be Disney's The Jungle Book" followed up by another from the same period "The Aristocats". The more recent Disney films although good, are slowly becoming more computer orientateted (of don't of course mean your "Toy Story"s and "Bugs Life"s and "Shrek"s, I'm talking about computer enhancing hand drawn.)

I must say (to raise of few skeletons) that I was interested in the stuff about "The Lion King" but it does not suprise me at all. "Dumbo" as it has been said is full of racist references and I think if you look into it, the vultures from "The Jungle Book" are probably a recreation of the crows from "Dumbo". Another racist discourse? Perhaps.

I think it also fitting to point out that Walt Disney himself was a fascist. His preoccupation with railroads parralelled his preoccupation with lowering the sub-cultures of his country that weren't White European. His historial references in his parks are centered around the ahcivments of white Europeans. In American history he conviniently leaves out any trace of black slavery, because the fact we once imprisoned blacks does not matter. A theme park is, in fact, simply a controled environment in which a propetier can basically mould the sensual stimuli that makes you feel and think what he wants you to feel and think, mind control, in short.

So these are probably not as far fetched as they seem.

If you had that first post again, what would you change?
Nothing. I am a know-it-all kid with an argumentative streak and a heap of crack potted views regarding the mainstream. I don't think I could have come here and straight out been the me I am when it comes to MoFo now. I wouldn't have fit in. I had to ease my way in via debate. I still think that's the way you should go about it if you're a newbie. Get in, get your hands dirty, say what you think. That's what I did.

I might have dropped the stuff about racial 'discourse', but nyeh.
I'm happy with that as a first appearance.

Your turn!
Relive the past!

What impression did you leave?
I dunno, probably not much of one cause nobody made any comments regarding my post. :)

What impression did you try to leave?
Just expressing my opinion, I wasn't really trying to get a specific point across.

What was the thread?
The Unbreakable (http://http://www.movieforums.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=8145#post8145) thread.

The Post?
This is one of those movies where you might have to watch it a second time to get into the movie. I saw it when it hit the theaters last Thanksgiving, and let me tell you I didn't really like it then, but a couple months ago my store got the demo for it and I watched it again, and again and again, I LOVE IT now, I bought the DVD of it, and it's one I just can't be without.

Yes it does tend to drag in parts, but any movie will do that, this is when the director feels he's giving you more info about the characters and why they are the way they are. Granted, M. Night did a little too much of it, but still you have to give it up to a guy that Wrote, Produced, and Directed. Not too many people out there do this kinda thing, and for those who do they usually don't pull it off like he did. I think he ought to let someone other than Willis take the lead role, but maybe he see's somethin in him that no one else does. Perhaps...just maybe...that slim little sqiunt in the corner of the eye...maybe he see's an Oscar..doubt it, but there's a chance there!!

I give it a see it, but don't jump to a conclusion kinda rating. Watch it and then wait a little while...think about it and watch it again. Who know's..it might make since the second time around.

If you had that first post again, what would you change?
Nada, I'm happy with what I said. :)

Nothing noteworthy; there was hardly anyone there at the time. :)

What impression did you try to leave?
I was just trying to get things kick-started.

What was the thread?
The Mission Impossible 2 (http://www.movieforums.net/showthread.php?threadid=1) thread.

The Post?

Hi everyone,

Anyone have any comments on Mission Impossible 2 (or "Mi:2" as it's being called)?

I personally enjoyed the first movie more. Mi2 had shades of the first flick in there, but they ended all too soon for me. I would've really enjoyed seeing more spy missions planned out and completed with some more techno-gadgetry...

Let's face it, the scene in the giant white room in the first film had us all holding our collective breaths...there wasn't enough of that in the second film...plenty of kicking, not enough spy stuff.

And c'mon: the guys at the theatre want spy stuff...everybody wants to be a spy. :)

Anyone else agree/disagree?
Geez, nearly two years ago. Feels very odd to look back on it. Interesting facts: that's the first thread in this board's history, as well as the first post. Officially, that is.

If you had that first post again, what would you change?
Nothin'.

What Impression did you leave?
I don't know. It seems like people just accepted me and posted right back about what I said. I've noticed a lot of times, newbies get posted over.

What Impression did you try to leave It seems as though I wanted to say something that would get people to agree with me. I stated some open ended questions...

What Thread?
The Memento thread. Which is still somewhat alive and well. Gets posts all the time. It's almost been a year since I've been here.

The Post?
I'm new to this site...just recently registered.I get so frustrated talking movies with people who can,t even remember the actors names. It's like,"Remember that movie with that one guy who's in that movie with that chick?"Yeah see ya.As far as I,m concerned Guy Pierce deserves a nod from the academy, but it will probably get one for editing.:bawl:

OMG!! This was when I first got a computer. Didn't double space or proofread and look! I tried to use a smilie...Awwww...
I wouldn't change a thing.
Edit I want to talk about what we thought of each other early on...I've got some funny stories. :D

None a'tall. Trying to enter the conversation in that thread was rather like shouting into a cyclone. :D

What impression did you try to leave?
I don't know exactly what I was trying to do, aside from add perspective to MM's point. MM is a friend of mine, and he's actually the one who told me about (and showed me) MoFo.

What thread?
The infamous Artsy/Experimental/Surreal thread.

Post?
I think the point that Mystery Man was trying to make is that, especially in many arty films, you can often find something in there that is worthy of notice, whether the score or the art direction or the dialogue or the costume design or what have you. This can apply even if you actively dislike the film and what it represents.

Case in point: I don't like Dick Tracy. I think it is a poorly made film in many, many, many ways. However, it is a beautiful film--the colors and the atmosphere were both right on target.

With Lynch, I believe that "something" is there. But then again, I enjoy a good Lynching every now and again, so I could be biased. :)

If you had that first post again, what would you change?
Nothing. Although I might have tried posting somewhere else first. ;)

Thanks to the mysterious Guests, I've been enjoying many a trip back to the sunny slopes of my MoFo yesterday vis a vis the threads they're viewing. I saw myself as a MoFo newborn, when I was overly enthusiastic enough to sign my frickin' name at the bottom of my posts--and, worse, rhyme with it. Terrible, terrible.

Aw, shucks, folks. Let's bring this one back for the newer kids. :yup:

I've been reading older posts recently, and I've gotta know. What is all this projectMayhem business I keep reading? Because I saw someone saying something bad about projectMayhem and I was like hey I never even said that and then I saw that it was from before I even became MoFo so what's the deal?

Sexy Celebrity:

What impression did you leave?

Well, according to Bullet Boy, the impression I left was that I was annoying, female, and attention seeking - so, that.

What impression did you try to leave?

That I was a sexy celebrity, of course.

What was the thread?

A Sexy Celebrity Is Here (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=1825) - I created it myself. :)

The post?

On February 18, 2002 at 11:08 PM, I wrote:

Hello there, movie fans. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Sexy Celebrity.

This is my first day here ever. I really like the design and setup of the whole thing. Looks like a fun place to be. I was referred to this site by someone I know who writes movie reviews for a certain paper... I wonder if he's around.

Anyway, since I love movies, am destined to be a screenwriter, and want to hear about all that's going on in the land of magic, I am here to talk!

I also love this James Dean cartoon avatar.... it's very fitting.

S.C.

If you had that first post again, what would you change?

I'd be even more annoying, more female, and more attention seeking, of course. Cause that's what sexy celebrities do best, don't they?
