Director: Christopher Smith(Severance, Creep, Triangle)
Starring: Sean Bean, David Warner,...

The film takes place in 1348 in plague-ridden medieval England. Osmund (Redmayne), a young monk, is tasked with leading the feared knight Ulric (Bean) and his band of mercenaries to a remote marshland village which has remained untouched by the Black Death. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer, who is rumoured to be able to bring the dead back to life.

I am not going to review this film.. But I can only recommend it..
It was surprisingly a very good film..
Think of it as an adaptation of Heart of Darkness set in the Dark Ages..
It even has a guy that looks a bit like Aguirre (Klaus Kinski).

look at the difference in colour grade between the screenshot and the still for the video (that disgusting injection of dark blue). I wish colourists would lay off .

I noticed both of those things immediately as well. I just watched this the other day. It's a nice ambitious film, but it's easy to see the moments where it is compromised for the crowd who probably wouldn't enjoy reading Heart of Darkness or watching Aguirre.

I do like the commentary on religion, and the reveal at the end... it hints but doesn't really say... "this is what it is."

It should have been a longer film, but it seems some character scenes may have been cut out. I also wish the battle/fight scenes would be filmed less close and instead further out.

For example of what I mean watch Connery vs Shaw in Robin and Marion or Finch vs everyone in Macbeth. You know where armor has real weight and you can see the movements of the entire body in only several shots of film instead of this schizo editing up close nonsense.

Could have been really good, but it was only above average for me. I did very very much enjoy the performance of the woman who played the witch. Wasn't she on an episode of "House" one time?

Grade from me... "B-"

This could have been so much better. They relied too heavily on cliche plot development and character reaction, even for the topic, and all the detail was on the surface so there was nothing to consider.

Was not keen on the film, quite disappointed.

Hey i would like to share In terms of both the visual look, and in terms of ambiance, the film was also very good. The graphic depiction of the plague, in addition to the desolated environment, set against the relatively lush scene of the un-ravaged village, really aided the haunting atmosphere the film attempted to invoke. The violence and misery of life during the period was also not a subject that the film shied away from, and in places verged towards being perhaps too brutal.
hope u would agree with these....

I think you should stop plagiarising other peoples reviews and mixing them in with your own little bits... done this in most of your posts. :p;)

Black Death (2010)

The plague is taking over England and there is word of a small village, untouched from the disease. A small group of men are sent to uncover the truth, they bring a young priest with them to find the way.

This is the third film from director Christopher Smith that I have seen, the other two being the disappointing Severance and the good/bad Creep. Both of those films had some great elements, but ended up on the disappointing end of the scale. Black Death walks a fine line as well. Much like last years Season of the Witch, Black Death is a little known film that deals with the black magic. Much to my surprise, the film decided to leave out a lot of the fight sequences one would expect from this type of film and instead relies on a tension vibe that I ended up really appreciating.

The film felt like the Wicker Man at parts and it seemed to forget the fact that it was a period piece. For those expecting something along the lines of Neil Marshall's Centurion, you'll probably be disappointed. This film has one battle sequences, which is relatively short. The rest of the film sees the men trek across the land to get to this one location. The climax of the film is actually well done and suspenseful, despite the lack of action for those seeking it.

The characters are one dimensional. The only one really given anything is the priest. He is in love with a young woman, but is confused about whether or not he should love her, or his faith. Religion and God is mentioned a bunch of times and it's actually quite a huge part of this film. The men believe they are sent on a mission in the name of God. The village they seek appears to worship no God. It dealt with religion a lot more than I expected it to.

Black Death is a decent flick, it's much more focused on the story being told than trying to impress the viewer with some slick fighting sequences. This is both positive and negative because, even though I'm all for story, it does seem to drag in places. No one is given more to do than what is required, meaning we have a hero, wise-ass, inexperienced one, respected one, crazy one, etc. The film takes an odd twist in the last five or so minutes. I don't know if I like it or not. That will probably be the cast with most people, a love it or hate it ending. I would recommend the film to those who like the genre, but don't expect a blood bath.
