Chicken Invaders is a game really similar to Space Invaders, only it's chickens instead.

Okay, this is my current desktop image. I drew it myself. The girl in the pic has no name as of yet, but I'm open to suggestions. The "SM" on her shirt stands for Space Monkey, (which was a name I was toying with for my own underground comix company that I would like to start if I wasn't so broke all the time), not Sado-Masochism or Sailor Moon.:D

How does one set up their wallpaper as an url?
One does not. One just grabs a screenshot and attachs it to one's post. :)
well how do i do whatever i need to do
Make sure your desktop is on the screen. Then hit the Print Screen button. Open an image editing program (like MS Paint), and go to the Edit menu. From there, choose Paste. Your image should appear in the program. Go to File and choose Save As. Save it as a JPG image somewhere on your hard drive. The rest is self-evident, I'm sure. :)

Og, what the heck are those outrageously fascinating little stuffed things on your desktop? The newest rage in children's programming on PBS or what???
Here's my latest (new computer, XP finally--I change the background almost weekly):
Pictures from some sort of underground Japanese show or comic. Not quiet sure. The brown fellows name is "Domo Kun", or that is the name of his type of people. I think there was a tv show about him, he appears all over stuff, sort of like an inside joke on the internet. I love that crazy guy! I think he's wonderful!Domo-Kun! Sorry. I need the bigger fonts, but I'd rather have the better resolution. I'm old, remember? :)
You picked up the Riven thing for a reason. There's a Cyan logo in the lower right corner (did you notice it?). This is a screen shot from their upcoming ONLINE INTERACTIVE Myst game, nicknamed Mudpie by its followers, but which is now just being called Myst Online.
It will be interactive around the world the way Ultima Online is. You'll be able to build a place to live in a neighborhood, etc., and explore worlds and find linking books, etc. etc.
It's due out sometime in 2003. Sounds fascinating -- if you can get past all the junkies out there who will live and breathe this stuff and dress up like Atrus and start talking in D'ni language. (I think Conan O'Brien should have that talking dog follow those folks around.)
Anyway, I love Myst-like art and threw this one on for now. I'll change it next week, probably to something stupid like one of my wedding pictures. :)

That famous painting of Kramer is also hanging big-as-life in the front of our local grocery store. I have no idea why the owner has it hanging there (huge thing, too), but it cracks me up every time I go in there. Even has the same frame.
Weird.
P.S. to Film Fr3ak: Aha, yes, that makes sense. I've only use Writer's DreamKit for one outline so far, but once I got the outline printed out, I stopped using it and got busy writing. I know what you mean about the computer being a distraction, so I bought a cheapo laptop on eBay ($125) and use that elsewhere in the house so I don't get tempted by Internet access and megagames, etc. Not that I don't find OTHER distractions....

Well ONE of the computers on my home network doesnt have a nic so it cant get online since i am dsl. I thought I would be "smoove" and put it on there, then just transfer the files over to this one should I need to print or send to someone ( I dont really want to put it on my laptop, since I use it primarily for my genealogy reserach)....
I worked on it for a while one after noon, then went to save. It shut completely off without saving. :( I think the problem is that pc is win95 and me version is for 98 and up :( so i am gonna reformat and then put me on there... anyway .. .. back to the subject.... it was very user friendly.

Same here. I often end up getting onto a user forum here or there to ask questions for help at certain points when I get stuck. Still, they're just such fun games. (I'm not a fan of shoot-em-ups.) I have fond memories of playing the first game years ago with all my kids around the computer (including little Yoda around age 11 -- back when he was green around the ... ears).

I played the first game with my then-husband, and between his anal proclivity for drawing maps and taking notes, and my intuitive random clicking-like-a-crazy-person, we figured that one out. Since then, on my own, no luck. Speaking of shoot-em-ups, I like them ok, but that dart to the neck in Riven about gave me a stroke.
"green around the ears" hee hee hee! It makes me grin that you post here. I can't even get my mom to use her email. (though I get the feeling you're much more my age than hers)

how do you post a pic of your desktop screen????
Get the sceen the way you want it (reduce any programs that are covering up the desktop, etc.), and then hit the PRNTSCRN key (or however it's marked).
Then go into MSPaint and hit PASTE. Once it's in there, I reduced it by about 50% and saved it as a JPG. Then I hit REPLY here and uploaded it.
Hope that helps! :)

Probably I am. I'm only 43 (Yoda himself being 20). I've been online since 1987.
My own mom (Yoda's grandma) has been known to post on here. She took to the online world like a duck to water, after some initial splashing around aimlessly.
Yeah, a few things in Riven creeped me out, starting right at the beginning with the moving video of SOMEONE ACTUALLY ALIVE in the game! After Myst's eerie nobody's-home feeling, it was a major shock to see people walking around every so often in Riven.
You should see the graphics in Myst IV. Oh my, they're GORGEOUS and amazing. Breezes blow, trees move, clouds go across the moon, water ripples when you touch it, items make appropriate sounds when you thunk 'em. It's way too cool. Game comes out in September.
Having the graphic on my desktop has been making me impatient lately, so I might change it for the last few weeks of waiting. I'm currently bored with most of the other games on my system right now....
SamsoniteDelilah
08-16-04, 06:28 PM
I think I may ask for the rest of the MYST series for Christmas. IV sounds really cool.
I'm 38, by the way, so yep, I'm almost the age of Yoda's mom and must now go invest heavily in Geritol. ;) I've known him as a fellow poster since Dec '02 and don't think of him as the young 'un that he is. I've been online since Dec '94, I think? Things have changed a bit, eh?

YAY! It worked! Gracias, my dear albino friend!
Anywho, here's my background. The picture is Alien vs. Halo, a fan art drawn by... well, a fan. And, of course (if you already can't tell), I am a big fan of Halo. November 9th will be the greatest day next to Christmas. And, for any of you who care, my two main IMing programs are running, in case you ever have the need to IM me (of course, the only other option between IMing me is suicide. Gosh, you must be bored at that point...) So, there you have it. Enjoy!

while on the desktop, hit the Print Screen button, then go into Photoshop, make a new document, and then hit ctrl-V to paste it in. Save up as a jpeg, and your golden.

How can you have Linkin Park's name right next to Led Zepplin? All while using IE. Tsk tsk tsk.
yeah yeah, your right about the names together, but you can't really know Linkin Park unless you listen to their older stuff, they've become a bit commercialized recently to make more money, I think they sold out a bit. Maybe I'll replace them with something else, but no bands recently have enough good songs to make my board. Who cares about IE, no matter how much better another program is, I only need something that does what I want it to do and IE does it fine for me. :p

Who cares about IE, no matter how much better another program is, I only need something that does what I want it to do and IE does it fine for me. :p
But it is, hands down, the worst browser with the least amount of features, and the most vulverability in existence. Just 10 minutes using tabbed browsing and you would never open IE again..I didn't. Why choose to use the worst tool for the job just because it is the most familiar? How are all those pop-ups treating you? You might be running one of those pop-up blocking programs on top of your browser, which is taking up more resources, which is bad. Most other browsers have it built in, and you don't have to deal with running applets. Suit yourself though :D
Your browsing would be so much faster and more efficient using tabs, and your taskbar doesn't fill up with windows...
Down with IE!!! ;)
Well, heres my desktop. Alot of people tell me that my desktop is to 'empty' but this is the way I like it.. the bare basics on the desktop itself and everything else should be shoved onto the start menu.
The background I got of a web comic called Applegeeks. Was unsure if it was alittle naughty or against the rules to post... so If it is tell me and i'll just remove it. I'm a big fan of comic art so my backgrounds are normally this kind of thing.
P.S Avant Browser for the win!

Those were the last two I had. I made a switch in video cards. I'm running an ATI RADEON 9600SE. I feel dirty.
Why? ATI rules Nvidia any day of the week.
not the 9600SE, not. im so happy with my 9800Pro :D
I have a 9600SE overclocked to the same core and mem speeds as a 9800, so har!
Well, I don't need extra cooling, AND can flash it to XT speeds. So, HA!
Yes, but I didn't pay for mine. Your turn!
Mine runs Doom 3 better than it runs HL1! All settings high!
GeForce 6800 Ultra SE 512 DDR
Not avail to public yet, beats any other card I have ever seen hands down. Course the price is going to be high, but I did not have to pay anything for it as I am a beta tester..beat that neener neener;)
Actually though, the mid level card benchmarks tend to favor ATI, but on the high end it is pretty even. The PCI express interface is going to blow everything else out of the water in a few months with either type card, so if you are in the market for a new card you may want to wait. I know you can get the express cards now, but these are just teasers to what this technology can really do.
My current desktop at home is Yoda's pic of the view up the trunk of a pine tree.I forgot to mention that this is impossibly cool, and flattering. Thanks. :) If you're still using it, I believe I have a larger version that might work a bit better.

Why? ATI rules Nvidia any day of the week.
Except all the days that end in Y. Nvidia, for the majority of the time has been the leader in video chip technology and most importantly, support. As of today, the Nvidia line is eating ATI for lunch, sop say pretty much ALL the hardware review sites anyway. In late 2003-2004, ATI pulled ahead in the benches for a bit, but once the next generation came out, Nvidia took the lead again. Sony just signed a big deal with Nvidia, and the next PS will run Nvidia chips. I have owned a fair number of both types of cards, and ATI has some of the worst support I have ever seen, while Nvidia's Forceware suite continues to be amazing, and only improves with each card gen.
You will get into a new gen ATI for cheaper though, as the new Nvidia cards are about $500.
Anyway, my latest desk....

Yes!! As you might have noticed there was a big hype about Doom 3 being best run on an ATI. Well, in the end, at the very last moment too, nVidia got the sticker. That just shows you how good they can kick butt. ATI is best for running with an Intel and it runs fine with AMD. nVidia runs best with AMD but, you can get lucky and run it with an Intel with no problems. Most of the time you will have problems. They don't work good together. I had a brand new 140 dollar card crap out on me after a week of use.
