I finally watched this a couple of years ago and I got to say, wow. It surpassed my expectations by a long shot. With catchy rock music and silly dialogue, this movie definatly belongs up there with the great comedies. Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny will make you laugh and sing till your face turns red.

Good: Jack Black and Kyle Gass pretty much steal the movie. Some minor appearences from other comedians as well. The music was another plus for the movie. I started hearing them in my head and couldn't seem to get it out.

Bad: The middle of the movie kind of drags. Some of the dialogue becomes over the top, but not in a good way.

Overall: I think not just D fans will not just enjoy this, but fans of rock period. True, it's not the most interesting comedy, but it does what it was meant to do. Rock your socks off.

3.5/5

I have only seen the TV series & I love these guys...
I prefer these guys over Sacha Baron Cohen any day...

Yeah, but are these guys even still around? Jack Black was good when Tenacious D was doing their music, but as of recent he is unfunny and terribly over the top. The last thing good I can remember him in is Margot at the Wedding, I didn't enjoy his character in Tropic Thunder.

Sacha Baron Cohen exposes some pretty terrible people in his comedy, I think he is the funnier one at the moment -- not that Jack Black didn't have his moment with Tenacious D.

The songs are fun to sing with friends and stuff. I remember doing so with someone on a long bus ride. Now it's just kinda stupid and I'd rather memorize more useful stuff like SOLILOQUIES.

The film wasn't really that bad, but I love the cinema verite style of Cohen/Charles.

After waiting so many years for the movie to materialize, even as a big fan I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed by The Pick of Destiny. It isn't bad, just not up to the level of inspired brilliance I expected from Kables and JB. The most disappointing element was that after both the TV series and one of their music videos used the idea of a guitar duel with the Devil, they went right back to that well...AGAIN. As a superfan, I found that lazy.

All of that being said, the opening song, "Kickapoo", with Meat Loaf perfectly cast as the young Jack's father and the cameo from the recently passed Ronnie James Dio was flat-out AMAZING! Just wish the rest of the flick had that kind of fun and Rock Opera energy.
