Very strong start! You know it's going to be an interesting list when you start with The Matrix, A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Lost Boys. Very curious to see what else makes the cut. I think Mark F has King Kong on his list too. I dunno, it's not a bad film at all and has some great visuals, but I just don't dig it that much, baby. I think it's the running time too that puts me off. A film with such a simple premise just doesn't need to be streched out to 3 hrs. Again a good start.

Batman Returns will always be my all time favourite Batman movie, no doubt Dark Knight was awesome, but there's something about BR that just can't be topped.

The characters are so surreal and dark, Gotham city never looked so beautiful.
Keaton's portrayal of Bruce Wayne's loneliness was just perfect, he might not have had the look of a Batman, but he surely did act like one.

Not faithful to the comics, yet a brilliant portrayal.

Does that mean you think this place should be more pretentious? Or just that we're 'polite' enough not to bag him out for making his personal top 100 personal?

Also, that you can rag on Batman Returns and say the others are ok, when he's got 300, Seven Pounds and Home Alone 2 on here is remarkable.

I'd like to see Planetnews top 100.

But i think Luinator's list is damn honest, he has movies which I am sure he would enjoy watching over & over again. & most of us would too.

The only 2 films I don't care much about here are Bad Boys 2 & Knocked Up.. but they were still fun and not bad at all.. I must have seen Bad Boys atleast twice.

I am just eager to see his top 20.

You've got a lot of mainstream action flicks and some great comedies in there. + rep for Monsters, Inc. and WALL-E two of my favorite Pixar films, and for Ransom, Inside Man, and Con-Air, the most badass movie ever. Just about the only ones I can't figure out why they made the list are Seven Pounds, Home Alone 2, and Armageddon.

Ransom was a nice film... I also love the entire Lethal Weapon series.

I didn't really like Identity when I watched it either. It kinda bored me even, but as I got to know the character better, I got to like the series better. My dad says he thinks they get better when you watch them again and understand them more easily. Not to mention he read the books. For my dad to give something he remembers a rewatch though, it has to be pretty good.

American Psycho is the only film on this whole page that I consider as singular. What a masterful film.

I haven't even seen Rocky II, but if it's anything like Rocky ...

I don't get why people love the Bourne films so much either. Just a lot of really messy editing, ugly compositions, and overblown shaky-cam to the point of "wtf is going on in the frame".

Se7en is the only one you listed that is on this page (which is what planet news mentioned above), but I would agree that it is an awesome film. I also really love Casino.

Well, they're both part of Scorsese's Gangster Trilogy (why does every ****ing thing have to be a trilogy?)and De Niro and Pesci play prominent characters in both. But, if someone's telling you that Casino comes close to Goodfellas as a film, they might need to have their sanity card rebuked. Casino's good, but Goodfellas is great.

The Prestige
07-28-10, 10:09 AM
Great list, dude. A lot of what you have on there are on mine. The Bourne Identity and Ultimatum are terrific action thrillers. Kinetic camera work isn't for everyone, but I think it really gives the film a great sense of style and emergency, making the action more thrilling. Plus Damon is surprisingly believeable as a hardcore ex assassin. There may not be any deep themes or whatever but both films are never boring and full of inspiring action sequences. Sometimes pure action can tell the story.

Casino is great, but I agree that if I had to pick then Goodfellas is the better film. But not by a great deal. I think Casino suffers from the sense of deja vu due to the main cast and it's director and subject matter. But it's still wonderfully executed with some great editing and powerhouse performances, specially from Sharon Stone. I'm never too surprised to see ahead of Goodfellas on some peoples lists.

I need to watch Fight Club again; it's been a while, but the film struck me as unremarkable when compared to the hype.

The scene where Norton first beats himself up (subjectively) in his boss's office is one of the best scenes ever. It's an amazing metaphor for counteracting authority by first destroying oneself.
