I've never even heard of Cashback. Seen the rest. A few of them many, many times. I'll throw you some rep for having Dark City on here, a great film and quite underrated.

And I am done.

Let me explain a bit about my list.. These are movies I could watch a lot of times... over and over again...
There are many I have left out, few war movies, a lot of westerns.. some nice action movies.. Few disney movies..

It's really difficult to place movies in order.. I am still not sure I have kept them in the right order yet... But I love all of these...

Fiscal
06-24-10, 08:14 AM
Cool list! I haven't seen several - but there are a lot that I love. I agree, it is hard to list movies in order - I ended up basically missing the whole western genre in mine accidentally!

genesis_pig
06-24-10, 10:31 AM
I have left out Westerns on purpose, there were just too many of them.

Brodinski
06-24-10, 11:56 AM
Some movies I enjoyed very much on that list (not the obvious ones):

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (still think this is hands down Carrey's funniest performance ever)
Cruel Intentions
Shoot 'em Up, Commando:
rating: 3
action rating: 4.5
Independance Day
Shattered Glass (Sarsgaard's best performance to date imo)

A question:

I can see you love Burton. Why no love for Big Fish and Ed Wood? Beetlejuice was a little too weird for my taste. That's not to say that Big Fish isn't weird, but it drew me in a lot more than Beetlejuice.

Other than that, nice list mate!

EDIT:
You said you didn't include any westerns because there are too many. Why no film noir? No love for that genre or too many you love?

rauldc14
06-24-10, 01:45 PM
Of what I have seen it is a really good list. My favorite inclusions are Forrest Gump, Stranger than Fiction, Independence Day, and Casablanca. I've only seen about 1/4 of these films sadly, but I think it looks like a good list.

Ohh Damn, I knew I was forgetting something.. I love Big Fish more than Beetlejuice in fact..
About Film noir, I had to leave it out as well.. I love Maltese Falcon, Point Blank. Once again there are quite a few.. & this will knock off others from the list.

I regret having left out Brick & Assasination of a High School Prsident as well. I really enjoyed them

Your list got a lot more rep from me than recent ones have. Partly because it deserved it and partly because a couple of the posts would include a couple of films that I just had to + rep, even though the rest of the post didn't deserve it, IMO. Still, lots of good films on here.

Yeah, when making such a top 100, it's impossible not to forget certain movies. I think that if I ever make one, I'll just keep adding movies like Mark does in his (stellar) top 100.

One more question, did you like the Man With No Name trilogy of Sergio Leone? If so, which is your favourite? It's interesting, because you like Yojimbo and A Fistful of Dollars is actually Leone's retelling of Yojimbo in a Western setting.

genesis_pig
06-27-10, 08:30 AM
I like Good, The Bad and The Ugly the most from the trilogy..
I like Yojimbo more than A Fistful of Dollars..

So, why is The Beach your favorite flick?

A perfect modern day adventure film.. I love travelling a lot, probably thats why.

I really like this list, Genesis. You have some gems on there, The Faculty, Frailty, Lost Highway. All cool films.

Surprised you liked Cashback, though. It's been 3 years since I have seen it, but my memories of it don't paint in the best light. I remember it was quite surreal in a lot of places and that there were a few cute women with nice breasts, but I don't know if that will be enough to entice me to give it a 2nd viewing.

genesis_pig

I love surreal films.. But I guess I like Cashback more coz I relate to the character.

People hated Lost Highway, but I think it's a perfect companion to Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire. All three together makes probably the best examination of fantasy/dream/reality ever.

Cashback sounded mildly intriguing when I first heard about it, but I never checked it out.

I love almost evrything by Lynch, even Dune.

planet news
07-28-10, 05:21 PM
That is everything. Can't say I agree there, but even Wild at Heart, which was also considered sh*t by many, I liked. The Straight Story I haven't seen unfortunately.

genesis_pig
07-28-10, 05:27 PM
Ohh yeah!!.. I have yet to watch that too...

mark f
07-28-10, 05:30 PM
Wait a sec. Are you "joking"? Or have you written off Eraserhead, The Elephant Man (his best), Blue Velvet and Fire Walk with Me. I think that The Straight Story is his second best, and I really like the "Twin Peaks" TV show, but all his "dreamy" pictures don't really work for me, no matter how many times I watch them.

genesis_pig
07-28-10, 05:36 PM
Mark, I like them all... But there were too many other movies I had to include in my list.
But I think I made this list in a hurry.. not giving it much thought.

Also, I just saw Blue Velvet & Inland Empire 2 weeks ago for the first time...I am still watching Twin Peaks, just finished Season1.

I Also haven't seen Rabbits.

christine
07-28-10, 05:40 PM
The Straight Story is well worth seeing, a gentle road movie that celebrates an old man and his life.

mark f
07-28-10, 05:49 PM
Actually I was talking to planet waves. You snuck a post in between. If you saw Inland Empire then you probably saw enough of Rabbits.

genesis_pig
07-28-10, 06:01 PM
I regret having left out so many movies..
Maybe in a year I will work on a new Top 100.. & also some genre specific Top 25 lists.

mark f
07-28-10, 06:11 PM
You can always add some more in later too.

I left off several films so I've been adding in new ones periodically. I just haven't deleted any of my original 100. I think I'm up to 156 now. The order doesn't really matter with most of the films because when you're dealing with a large number, part of the order is completely arbitrary. I'm even going to do a slight shuffle of my Top 10 once I see a couple more of them because I already know at least two are in the wrong spot.

genesis_pig
07-28-10, 06:21 PM
Yep.. I think I'll go for Top 25 in each genre.. this way it will be easier for not to squeeze in various genres..

Juno MacGuff
07-28-10, 06:27 PM

All these Lynch fans and they've not seen his best work? *sigh*

Go see The Straight Story, then Twin Peaks and then The Elephant Man.

The Prestige
07-29-10, 09:52 AM
I thought that Lost Highway was excellent. His best film for me. The sex scenes were great and it felt really accessible. I rate that even higher than Mullholland Drive which I thought was really good, too. The Straight Story was a nice departure but I am still not too sure how I feel about that one so I may have to watch it again.

Congrats on finishing the list, Genesis! Lots and lots of good films on there, plus I like that you used a lot of original posters. I remember having the exact cover of Batman Returns on VHS so your picture brought back some nice little memories. I have a love hate relationship with that film, though. The love part mostly going towards Michelle Pfeiffer.

genesis_pig
07-29-10, 10:03 AM
Even though I love Lost Highway more, I feel Mulholland Drive is a better film..
& I still wonder how it would have translated as a TV show..

The Prestige
07-29-10, 11:33 AM
Was there a planned TV adaptation of it or something? I imagine it would have just been another Twin Peaks to be honest.

genesis_pig

It was supposed to be a pilot for a TV show, but it got rejected so Lynch ended up making it as a movie,

I think I should start with yours, loads of classic romantic films.. I have seen much of those.

Caitlyn
08-25-10, 03:18 PM

Actually I am not happy with the list.. I decided to include films which I enjoy watching..

I guess I should make a better list in few months... this is not an easy task.. I made this list in an hour, so it was pretty much rushed.

A list of favorites should be the films you enjoy watching though... and 9 times out of 10, the ones we enjoy watching over and over are not the greatest films ever made... they're the fun ones... :)

I've been thinking about redoing my list because I want to add a few... but it's hard to let go of some of the old ones... :)
