Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Or as I like to call it...300: The TV Series.

After watching the first episode, I don't know how much longer I'll be invested, let alone how much longer the show will go on. Really disappointed in this one.

It is way too stylized and feels like 300 mixed with Gladiator. Those looking for some good quality television in this genre should stick with the 2005 Bruno Heller series Rome, which was leaps and bounds over this.

I guess it hits the intended target audience. It has lots of gore and violence, blood that is horribly CGI that hits the screen, tons of naked women and swearing. A so called "man's show".

Speaking of the swearing, it totally feels out of place. In a show like Deadwood, it would flow at an almost artistic quality, here it's childish. The dialogue in general is pretty bad. I've never laughed so many times at lines spoke by actors in a tv show.

I'll give it another episode or two to get going, but I don't see a future for this one.

The production values aren't near as high as Rome with lots of CGI backgrounds but there's more action than Rome showed.
(my only gripe with Rome was all the off-screen action they rushed through).

Spartacus is heavy on the 300/Gladiator style and filled with exaggerated digital blood.
It has more of what I would call cartoon action but it really works for me.

Each episode had a build up that would climax in a fantastic battle.
I found myself after each week desperately waiting for the next episode.
So much that I would wind up watching each one 2 or 3 times in a row.

The season finale was epic.
I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go with the next stage of the slave rebellion for season 2.
If it hadn't gotten picked up for another season, the finale would have made a perfect ending for the series.

My only gripe is the overkill on swearing and "By Jupiter's c*ck", do we really need to see so much wang?
Needs more nekked chicks.
