I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS!:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gspElv1yvc
*note: this example is for the BCSPCA (I prefer ASPCA, though -- too many C's and letters to say in BCSPCA!)
And all of the other commercials that are just variations of this!
I could be watching a perfectly lovely TV show -- a comedy or some funny movie or something, something to make me feel good -- when that thing appears during the breaks!
"In the ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMS offfffffffff the angels!" Followed by a dozen clips of animals in pain -- dogs with missing eyes, dogs in cages, dogs in bandages, cats looking suicidal.
And it seems to last FOREVER!
And they play it too many times!
And it's been broadcast FOR YEARS!
Yes, Sarah McLachlan, you know how to sing a good sad song, but S.T.F.U. for once! Tell 'em to pull the plug on these commercials! They annoy and depress me during times I don't need the depression!
I decided to make a thread about this because I figured there must be others out there who are sick to death of hearing Sarah McLachlan make the plight of lonely, abused animals seem like the most important cause in the world.
What does this woman do when she's not in front of the camera making one of these sappy creations? Is she out rescuing all the stranded dogs that have been leashed to fire hydrants? Is she in dumpsters looking for lost cats?
The ASPCA is a good cause and all that, but I really wish they weren't trying to make me cry everytime I watch a Seinfeld rerun.
HELP ME STOP SARAH!
Yes, Save the Animals, but Stop Sarah!
I've never seen one of those videos, but apparently I live a sheltered life.

I'm not sure what she does 24/7... but I know she is involved in numerous charities... donating both her time and money... and last year she was awarded the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award...
She donated all the money that this video could have cost to various charities and, if I remember correctly, the proceeds from the song also go to charities...

Actually, I'd like to put a clamp on those commercials, too. I worked for 5 years at the ASPCA in Manhattan a very long time ago, and now several times a day, every day, am still horrifically haunted by some of the monstrosities I witnessed.
All the vodka in the world wouldn't erase those images from my mind, and I don't need a resurgence of them every minute on the TV. :(
I think i seen that video like a few times. Unless SC just catches it everytime it aired or something... the thing hasnt been on television for like a couple years. Last time i remember seeing that was like maybe 2008.
Have you seen this SC?

I think those commercials are inappropriate and counter-productive.
Especially for the time slots they are allowed to show them in.
I don't enjoy anything getting tortured or abused.
My girlfriend and I have five dogs, three horses, and a cat.

I don't like those ones for starving poor kids either. Each and every bloody time I sit down with a nice big plate of food to enjoy, one of those flipping ads comes on.
sorry, nebs/caitlyn, we aren't all saints. :(
Not a saint  just love animals :yup:
Just give them all your money, then they'll stop.

i love aminals, too, but i agree that the commercial is overplayed. ah well!
It is a commercial. The creators are trying to promote a cause or trying to sell a product or both. The fact that it bothers one makes it all the more successful. We all have our "causes".

i don't see how it bothering me makes a difference either way. isn't it supposed to inspire me to make a donation or something? i just change the channel instead.

I can't stand watching these commercial either and the few times I have it has literally made me cry every time. But that's the point. If they don't show the public images like that, if they don't evoke your sympathy, then you're much more likely to brush the subject to the back of your mind and leave it there.
You know what commercials I'd love to see disappear from the airwaves forever?
All of the ones starring this obnoxious woman:

But since neither advertising campaign seems to be ending anytime soon, I just switch the channel when they come on. No big deal.

I may regret this, but what are those ads about, MV? We don't get them over here. Well, maybe we do, but I don't recognise her.
You Pick Your Price Auto Insurance. Sorta like Shatner sans toupee.

Thanks mark.
No, we don't have that company over here. Not unless they call themselves something else here, anyway.
It is a commercial.
Thanks for explaining that, I was confused.

I don't even know what that is and it's annoying me. You poor, poor things.
That said, we have to put up with this.

And this...

Actually, the second one isn't the problem. It's the others that came after it and the fact that (some) people think it's hysterically funny to do the "Simples" bit at the end.

Wow. Yeah I'll take "Flo" over that Go Compare dude anytime.
But here's an example of a Progressive Insurance commercial for you. It's one of several different ads featuring "Flo."

I'd watch what you say about Flo. Mark F is a friend of hers.
See, he was in one of her commercials:

I think they're relatives or something. The F in Mark F stands for "Flo". That is my theory.
