Well, we've been talking about it in the Ups and Downs thread, but it's just too big a topic to get cut off, so here we go.

I have this thing where I see a girl I like, I get nervous, shy, and don't say anything, and then I feel like an idiot. Or, I get nervous, shy, and say something really stupid and then I get this really funny look from the girl and I feel like an idiot.

I guess I need to work on my people skills

I used to have the same problem. To be perfectly blunt, I don't worry about things like this much...haven't for awhile. I'm pretty good at looking perfectly normal on the outside, no matter what's churning inside. I have to be. I'd just offer up this quote to anyone worried about saying the wrong thing:

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Well, I've got good news for you -- at least your body works! Yes, yes, yes, your body is telling you that you're attracted to someone. You are not actually breaking down when you see a girly girl. You're in tip top shape -- so feel sexy and secure about that. And about that funny look you get... sounds like she's just interested. She probably thinks you're acting cute. She was probably sprayed by your manly pheromones. But never fear - you are not a skunk. If you are, pity. So, just realize that you're a normal, sexual human being and ask her out. 10/10 times, if you believe that she likes you, she does.

Girls will sometimes try to act cool, but inside theyre just as nervous as you are most of the time. And if you do say something stupid and they look at you like you have a nipple growing off your nose, don't fret. They're probably just doing it to be cool or make someone laugh. They understand sometimes how guys get nervous. Just be yourself, don't think you have to say something clever or witty, just ask them simple questions like "where'd you get those shoes?" or "Do you like water" well don't use those exact questions but you get the point. And if girl doesn't dig you, who cares, there's a chick out there who will, just keep trying.

Here is the sagest advice I can give.

Be yourself. You are incapable of being anyone else and if you try it you will come across as a phony. There are plenty who will love you for who you are and many, many more than that who will never love you no matter what you do. All you can do is say "f*ck it" I am who I am and go on with your life. I'm a pretty fair judge of character, Spud. You've got it going on. You're a smart, good lookin' and funny guy. Confidence, my good man... don't doubt yourself. Nothing wrong with you at all... it's just a numbers game. Be yourself and it'll work out for you.

I think it's great that everybody is quick to stroke your ego and tell you that you should just be yourself and all that...but I'm not so sure you're going to be thinking about all that when the chick you're diggin' on is standing right in front of you and your knees are feeling weak...

So here's what I'm going to tell you. I've seen guys fuddle in front of me before. It's going to happen, ya know...
So when a guy gets all flustered and wiggly while they are trying to formulate sentances, I just hang in there with him. After awhile...they see that I'm NOT going to laugh at them...I'm NOT going to run away screaming...I'm NOT going to point and judge...I'm going to stand there and do my best to make them feel comfortable...after a little while, they warm right up.

So here's my bottom line, hang in there long enough to see if she can make you feel more comfortable. If she can't, then she's not worth your time. If she does...HELLO MRS. POTATO HEAD!;D

I'm talking to a girl right now (not right now, but in present tense) that I think things could work with, we like a lot of the same things, we even get into little arguments about the Braves being better than the Yankees (yeah right, Yankees have HOW many championships), and all this other stuff. She's got a great sense of humor with me and that's what I look for. I asked her the other day what she thought (this was last night), and haven't talked to her yet today so I should find out something...

Well talked to the girl from above (the one I was 'talking' to) last night, and we decided it be best if we didn't try anything right now.

Then, last night after the big fight, my friend came over, we had a nice two and a half hour discussion about everything, made up, and we might be getting involved.

You don't like my Av? It's Marshall Arisman... one of my favorite illustrators. He is brilliant in the use of color and form to draw emotion from his viewer. I would suspect that no one has an indifferent view of his work... most are completely put off by it or completely in love with it. I'll attach the uncropped pic...

Toose, I thought you HATED vicious, biting dogs. Didn't I read a post around here where you said that you carry around a big stick when you go walking and everytime a big dog comes by, you whack it on the head and make it cry?
