Since nobody has visited the Lost thread (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=10937) since May of this year (except Sedai - which is kinda sad). I am going to post this here instead so it actually gets read by some people. :p
Lost Gets a 3-Hour Series Finale

As the premiere of ABC’s hit mystery/drama Lost draws ever closer, more and more promos for it have been popping up all over the place (the Spanish “chessboard” one (http://screenrant.com/lost-season-6-spanish-trailer-rob-35829/) was fantastic). But to the annoyance of many people, the promos don’t feature a lick of new footage… none… nada… zip! Why’s that? Well, I imagine it’s to keep everyone in suspense as much as possible and to keep them guessing as to what the premiere of the sixth and final season will be like.
We’ve already learned that the season 6 premiere will be a 3-hour event (http://screenrant.com/lost-final-season-six-premiere-date-regular-cast-announced-ross-34976/) consisting of one recap episode to get all the major events of the show fresh in our minds, and then we’ll be hit with the all-important 2-hour premiere. So that’s the premiere sorted out – but what of the series finale, the last we’ll ever see from the amazing show that is Lost?
Well, according to the show’s producers and writers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the series finale will be 3 hours long, taking place over 2 weeks. In an interview with Chicago Tribune (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2009/12/lost-season-6-cuse-lindelof-abc.html), both Lindelof and Cuse talked about the last season of the show, and in amongst that was the info about the 3-hour finale. Here’s the quote from the interview:
“Will 18 hours be enough for the last season? (By the way, Season 6 will consist of a two-hour season premiere, 13 episodes and three-hour series finale that will air over two weeks — but as Cuse joked, “I’m sure the network will sell it as a six-part finale if they can.”) Cuse: “For us, [18 hours] is just about right. I mean, we aren’t sitting here feeling like, ‘Oh my God, we need a ton more hours to tell the rest of our story.’ It feels like it’s going to work out just fine. It will have been the right length.”

So 3 hours (3 episodes) over 2 weeks? Does that mean it will be 1 hour of the finale one week, then we have to wait until the following week for the other 2 hours? Isn’t that just the same as getting the 3rd-to-last episode one week, then the 2-hour finale the next week? I don’t see how they can count it as a 3-hour season finale if it’s over a 2-week period…
Just stop trying to sell the finale as something it’s not (as Lindelof joked above, the network will probably try to sell it as 6 parts) and just have the two-hour premiere, the 14 episodes after that and finally the 2-hour season finale to cap it all off. Lost is complicated enough as it is!
If you’re a big Lost fan to head over to Chicago Tribune and read the extensive interview with Lindelof and Cuse. Amongst others things, the duo talk about their approach to ending the show, their plans for after the show ends (including them going into hiding in fear of being attacked for answers!) and the new narrative technique they’ve concocted to tell the story of season 6. You can read the interview HERE (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2009/12/lost-season-6-cuse-lindelof-abc.html).
The 2-hour season premiere of Lost season 6 airs at 9:00pm, Tuesday, February 2nd, on ABC.
