Well now. That was fun wasn't it? Word. What a ride folks! And what an extremely competitive league! There are still, 9 teams with 500. or better records! 9!!! That's awesome folks. Thanks to all of you for playing this season and I hope to see each and every one of you back next year. Oh, and by the way, keep your lineups intact ladies and germs because if memory serves there should still be some consolation games coming up. Yahoo may not have them listed right now but I bet they'll pop up come ganeday. I may be wrong and if I am, feel free to hurl obscenities my way but I seem to remember there were several consolation games last year so we'll see, dig?

So, let's take a look at this week's 4 teams and their respective games, shall we?

PW's Odd Squad vs Gadsden Flag

I wonder if you can all take a little ride with me for a moment and remember the terrible start I had to begin this season. 0-3 it was and I was desperate. I was just able to get past Sluggo's Sweeties for my first win and really didn't look back. I only lost 2 more games on the way to an 8-5 record and as it turns out; I needed every single win and every single point I accumulated along the way. I admit, I got extremely lucky with both of my major trades and even now I'm not sure if Warner or Brady is the better QB. I tend to believe (because my hatred for the Cardinals knows no bounds) that Brady has been more reliable with his only real stinker coming just two weeks ago. Is it some kind of cosmic joke that I must now face the team who starts Kurt Warner in order to move on to the next round? Perhaps.

And perhaps its also fitting that the reason my team wasn't able to capture the coveted second bye slot was due to the loss I suffered at the hands of Bobby's team. A team who I picked on and ridiculed for a large part of the year because I didn't think he spent enough time updating and taking care of his team. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.

My opponent this week is the Gadsden Flag and his band of NOT merry men. The Flag has had himself a solid year after starting the season at 2-3 he went on to win 6 of his next 8 games and only needed a little bit of help from the Hired Goons to get into the playoffs. Well, he made it and now it's a new season. He has made several moves as well and perhaps the biggest could be acquiring Kurt Warner. We shall see. In our first meeting Jay's team under performed and I was able to get by him rather easily. It's possible that could happen again as my two main RB's are facing pretty lame defenses this week and the dynamic Brady/Welker dou are at home this Sunday. I'm not going to bore you all with a prediction. I always think I'm going to win. Good luck Jay and I mean this... I hope your team stinks to high heaven this Sunday!

Next we have The Replicants vs. Team Darcy.

Team Darcy shot out to 5 straight wins and looked nigh unstoppable there for a bit. Her team came crashing down with a 3 game losing streak but she was able to right the ship enough to only lose 2 more games to also end the year with a 8-5 record. Her chances of advancing this week may rest solely on the shoulders of Michael Turner and whether or not he can go. I'm betting he plays. Atlanta's whole season is basically at stake this week and unless he re-injures his ankle, I think he plays. She'll need it too because it seems that Reggie Wayne has slowed down a bit of late but he is at home this week and the Colts should be pressing hard to put Denver down and keep some serious distance between them and the rest of the league.

The Sedster on the other hand, limps into the playoffs after dropping 3 of his last 4 games. But, considering that he started the season at a brisk 7-2 he was more than able to survive. He has the unenviable task this week of picking some really tough matchups and hoping a few of them produce some big numbers. Megatron finally had a big game last week but now must face Baltimore in Baltimore. It wouldn't surprise this reporter one bit if he changes his mind and slots Driver back in there before Sunday. His swing man and Tight End also have a tough game. Cincinnati is no longer the pushover they once were and what with Favre possibly dropping into the late season swoon that many have predicted he could have, Minnesota may not only have their hands full but could very well lose the game. It's certainly not all bad news though, his RB matchups look pretty sweet. And V-Jack may have a huge day if the Dallas December drop continues.

My pick: 'Bots in a squeaker!

So then, weigh in folks! Predictions, bitching, what have you. Did you have fun this year? Anything you'd like to perhaps change for next year? Be heard now or forever hold your tongue! The Fantasy football year is coming to a close but I guarantee you this, next year is right around the corner!

I miss it already. Good luck to all the playoff teams, I am rooting for PW, but only because I predicted him earlier in the year. I had a great time and will certainly keep an eye on what goes down in the playoffs. I want to see who I have to beat next year, cause I will be back with a vengeance and a car that does not break down, hell on draft day I aint leaving the house. ;)

Damn I really am disappointed theres no loser playoffs for the rest of us. Ive been thinking about this, and if everyones for it.....

Slugs Sweeties Vs Taterators
DaBears Vs TONGO
Beantown Champs Vs Flash
Hired Goons Vs ILMF

Everyone would just need to set their lineup before sunday Yahoo will calculate the point totals for each player anyway. If you win you get nothing. Interested?!

The playoffs are under way, though only one of tonight's players (Rashard Mendenhall) is on a playoff roster.

Now seems like a good time to go over some of the top fantasy players and compare them, haphazardly, to the draft results. First, the cream of the crop:

Best Players at Each Position

Quarterbacks
A. Rodgers (313 pts), taken #1 overall
D. Brees (302 pts), taken #14 overall
P. Manning (274 pts), taken #4 overall

Wide Receivers
L. Fitzgerald (239 pts), taken #12 overall
R. Wayne (238 pts), taken #23 overall
R. Moss (229 pts), taken #26 overall

Running Backs
C. Johnson (282 pts), taken #21 overall
M. Jones-Drew (253 pts), taken #7 overall
R. Rice (251 pts), taken #73 overall

Tight Ends
V. Davis (201 pts), taken #177 overall
D. Clark (194 pts), taken #25 overall
A. Gates (190 pts), taken #55 overall

Defenses
New Orleans (159 pts), undrafted
Green Bay (132 pts), taken #184 overall
Philadelphia (126 pts), taken #104 overall

Random thoughts about the above:

Defenses aren't as unpredictable as kickers, but they're close.
L. Fitzgerald was both the consensus #1 WR, and the top scoring WR. That's actually pretty unusual.
Though Badger probably still reached taking Rodgers #1 overall, it wasn't nearly as outrageous as all of us thought it'd be.
Of the nine players listed at the three most important positions --QB, WR, and RB -- eight of the players were taken in the first 26 picks/first two rounds. Only Rice, taken in the 6th round, was taken later, and he was still a consensus sleeper for almost every analyst.
That last point is really interesting. Obviously if we expand beyond the top three at these positions, we'll find lots of crazy steals and surprises, but it's still remarkable that so many studs at the major positions ended up producing at their expected levels.

The Steals of the Draft

This section could be massive, so I'll try to stick to the best of the best:

Joseph Addai, 49th overall
Broke down last year, and we all assumed it was the beginning of the end. How wrong we were. Slug took a chance on him, he's scored a whopping 12 TDs, and is 6th among RBs.
1
Ray Rice, 73rd overall
Even with Willis McGahee vulturing TDs, he finished 3rd among RBs thanks to a ridiculous, RB-leading 64 receptions.
1
Matt Schaub, 77th overall
Would've snagged him up myself if I didn't go QB early, Slug nabbed him in the 6th round. He's stayed healthy and finished 6th among QBs.
1
Cedric Benson, 99th overall
Oh yeah, you knew it was coming. Took him figuring he'd get 25 touches a game on a bad Cincy team, but he ends up being good, too. He's only 17th among RBs, but he's missed roughly 3 games. Assuming modest production in those games, he'd be around 5th. Welcome to Bizzaro World.
1
Brett Favre, 145th overall
You knew this one was coming, too. TONGO McNabb's been teased about lots of things this year, and I stand by most of it. :D But as annoying as many of us might find Brett Fav-ruh, the fact is he's been a great fantasy QB, and TONGO got the #4 fantasy QB in the 11th round. Not bad.
1
Tim Hightower, 152nd overall
PW hates him and all other Cardinals, but took him in the 11th round anyway, then flipped him to me for Tashard Choice. He's 13th among RBs thanks to a staggering 51 receptions -- second only to Ray Rice at the position.
1
Percy Harvin, 172nd overall
Though he didn't hang onto him, Flash nabbed Harvin in the 13th round. He's become one of Favre's favorite targets, and is 18th among WRs.
1
Sidney Rice, 190th overall
Same idea, except he was taken 18 picks later, and is an even-better 11th among WRs.
1

The Busts of the Draft

Sorry, it has to be said...

Brian Westbrook, 8th overall
Slug struck gold taking injury-prone guys like Addai and Schaub, who subsequently stayed healthy, but the strategy goes only 2-1, as Westbrook missed half the fantasy season, was 49th among RBs, and wasn't stellar even when he did play.
1
Brandon Jacobs, 18th overall
He looked like a nice little pickup when Bobby took him in the 2nd round, but Jacobs has struggled. A huge 24 point day in the finale saved his totals and barely pushed him into the top 25 among RBs. Wouldn't be so bad if he'd had the decency to simply get hurt, but he's been perfectly healthy, essentially forcing Bobby to keep playing him.
1
Dwayne Bowe, 39th overall
Was hoping he'd fall to me; now I'm glad he didn't. Bowe finished a stunning 48th among WRs, thanks in part to missing the final three games of the fantasy regular season. Wasn't out-and-out horrendous before, but didn't have a single big game, either.
1
Reggie Bush, 44th overall
An understandable gamble in a PPR league that just didn't shake out. The talent's still there, making him as maddening as ever.
1
Eddie Royal, 57th overall
I dunno about you, but I nearly cursed out loud when Badger took Royal to start the 5th round. Dude caught 91 friggin' passes last year. PPR stud, right? Guess not. He'll be lucky to catch half as many this year, and is 70th among WRs.
I could go all day, but the only true busts have to be taken in the first several rounds, obviously. A few other mid-round busts: In the 5th round: A. Bryant, L. White, L. Johnson, and D. McFadden. In the 6th: C. Cooley, B. Berrian, and W. Parker. All but one of these guys is basically waiver wire fodder now.

There's more, to be sure, and I'll see about checking the transactions for the best waiver wire pickups of the year, and scanning the rankings for other surprises. But that'll have to wait; I've got an annoyingly crucial Steelers game to watch. ;)

Awesome overview Yoda.

The Replicants Vs Team Darcy

Up until Yoda picked up Dallas Clark I always thought Sedais Reps would take it all. Darcy surprised us all this year, and was shrewd & savy. What she has learned though like alot of us is the one spot you dont want to be weak in is quarterback. For example I had Reggie Wayne and Adrian Peterson last year then faded away when Matt Schaub went down. Whats good for her is Sedais' McNabb is no peach either, but the matchups are not good for her.

Replicants have Sidney Rice & Shiancoe up against Cinncinatti after losing to Arizona. The Vikings are focused, and Im sure Brett has a hair up his arse after that last performance. Megatron will show us why the Ravens are weak vs the pass, Fred Jackson up against the Chiefs run defense (27th) is LOLable. Darcy has no favorable team matchup whatsoever. So I guess theres just no way Darcy can win ;)

Gadsden Flag Vs PWs Odd Squad

So who's gonna beat the Odd Squad point machine....PW was there any game this year after getting Brady you didnt have the projected point advantage?

Playing Antonio Bryant vs the Jets is not a good idea. I dont care how bad a game Sims-Walker has had he should be in and isnt. Josh Freeman cant hang yet vs a defense of that intensity, and make no mistake the Bucs beating Green Bay was a fluke.

Anybody think the Patriots will lose 3 in a row? I dont. Anybody think the Patriots wouldnt run up the score sunday to make a statement? I know they would, and will if they get the chance. This is a longshot for Jay to win.

Just remember 11 out of 14 teams were within 3 games of each other this year so really the predictions were a crapshoot anyway.

Theyre fun though :)

More great write-ups, guys.

Chris, Bryant is just there as a place holder until I find out more about Sims-Walker's injury. No worries ;). Not that it's going to matter much against the Point Warriors.

Yoda
12-11-09, 02:41 PM
Oh, I wasn't trying to say much by including him. I think Bryant was a fine pick who I would have taken myself if he'd fallen a bit more. He was a big risk/reward pick that just didn't work out. He's been pretty good the last couple of games and, were he up against a lesser pass defense than the Jets this week, he'd be a decent play.

Note for Jay: MSW has been downgraded to Doubtful.

Mike Bell looks like he won't play, too. Obviously I'm not playing this week, but it's good news if only because it gives P. Thomas a chance to shine a bit more, which could carry over into Week 15 a bit. Or so I'm telling myself.

12-13-09, 03:06 PM
Well, since we don't actually rest players, the Bye week is just a chance to have your team suck for a week and not be penalized for it. Doesn't look like that's gonna matter; my team's completely going off, anyway. Andre Johnson has already had his best game of the year, and it's only halftime.

Meanwhile, both Jay/PW and Darcy/Seds have some pretty tight matchups. Seds was in big trouble, but TDs by Rice and MJD in the last 5 minutes have brought him back. PW leads, but is getting nothing outta Brady and will certainly need a lead going into tomorrow night, where Jay has Kurt Warner going.

Wow.

Team Darcy upset The Replicants barely. Mike Sedai hates Michael Vick for stealing a td from McNabb Im sure as the final score was 110.86 to 105.10. Brandon Marshall saved the Mrs with a 53 point performance. Darcy didnt play Orton but it ended up just helping with the tension at the end as she won anyway.

Gadsden Flag Vs PWs Odd Squad is still up in the air. Jay had some talent come together at the right time - Reggie Bush 25.90, and Hakeem Nicks 21. Brady and Welker produced a total of 31.98.....meh! With PW ahead by a little less than 5 points the game rests on Jays Kurt Warner and Chris Hs' Fitzgerald on monday night football. Btw Powdered Water hates the Cardinals

Congratulations to Darcy, and a great season too Sedai!

Wow. I woke up to a couple of big surprises this morning. Nicks had a stellar night and put this game within reach for me. Unfortunately, I found that Celek had an equally great night in my other league and I'm now down by 26 there. I've got Warner going tonight in both leagues. Against Fitzy here, against nobody there.

Sedai
12-14-09, 10:08 AM
Well, we had a power outage at quite possibly the worst time possible, just when the 4PM games were starting. I missed the rest of the football afternoon, and a damn good game between Darcy and I.

NOT the way I wanted to end the fantasy season for The Replicants.

Meanwhile - WTF!!!! Brandon Marshall had to set some ridiculous record for catches on the day I need him to have a mellow game... The rest of my team was clearly superior, and the score reflects as much.

Alas... the Marshall buzz saw took me down...

Yoda
12-14-09, 11:15 AM
Wow, craziness. Both matches ended up a lot closer than they looked like they would be.

Yeah, really tough break with Marshall, Seds. I was almost rooting for you to lose by more so the Marshall thing wouldn't be the difference, as it's always a bummer to lose on something crazy. You had a heckuva team this year and I can honestly say I wanted no part of you in the next round, with all those high-upside guys. Tough breaks down the stretch with the injuries, too.

In the other game...Nicks...wow! Jay gets some very timely performances and has himself a shot. It's pretty tricky, since he's got Warner throwing to PW's Fitzgerald, and any play they hook up on benefits Fitz more.

Meanwhile, while I'm not playing, it wouldn't have mattered if I had; my team's put up 162 points, which is my season-high, and I've still got T. Hightower going tonight. Yikes. LT, on the other hand, is extremely lucky that she wrapped up the second Bye week, and she would've put up just 76 points, and lost to anyone else she might have played this week. So it goes: sometimes the Bye is a useless insurance policy, sometimes it saves your season.

I'll definitely be watching intently tonight, and preparing for a rematch with Darcy next week.

Yoda
12-14-09, 11:27 AM
Prepare for a little other-league whining from yours truly here...

It's been an agonizing year; I lead the entire league in points, but finished just 8-5 thanks to losses of 11 pts, 10, 4, 5, and less than 2. That last loss cost me one of the Byes and happened because Ray Rice had his worst game of the year.

It nearly cost me the season as well when, having to play this week, I got a combined 2.8 points out of R. Moss and R. White, S. Jackson had his worst game of the season, and I got just 2 pts out of my kicker. Meanwhile, my opponent had Rob Bironas, who scored 19 points. His kicker scored 19 points. I checked, and it's the highest total any kicker has had all year long.

My righteous anger was stopped short when the TEN defense had a late TD return, and the Giants defense got shredded by Philly, so I pulled it out. But barring that very late TD, I was looking at getting bounced thanks to a series of maybe a half-dozen consecutive improbable events. I was all prepared to go on some epic rant about the improbability of even one or two of the events, let alone all of them. Thank goodness...

Sedai
12-14-09, 05:12 PM
What great fun this season was! Bummer I ended up with Team McLimpy by the end. Maybe I will have better luck with injuries next year :)

TONGO
12-14-09, 09:12 PM
Yeah Seds your team was really bad to the bone, and maybe PWs was the only other team with as much star power spread throughout the lineup.

My other 2 leagues (besides my all Buc team one) Ive been doing great. Ill probably get knocked out the 1st playoff game in each. My first game I lost to a guy whos in the running now, and the last game of regular season I haed to play him again. Between Dallas Clark, Ray Rice, DeSean Jackson, and Andre Johnson I completely destroyed him, and I have Alex Smith yet to play. Heres whats funny - next week is the first playoff game, and I have to play him again, back to back weeks.

Darcy needs to stick with Kyle Orton as he just passes alot more than Garrard. Plus too its just more stylish being able to say "Orton too Marshall! Orton too Marshall!" Sigh! I guess girls just dont get stuff like that.

Mrs. Darcy
12-14-09, 09:21 PM
Yeah Orton was the better player, but the Yahoo experts said his day was going to be more difficult than Garrard's. So I went with Garrard since he had more stars on the ratings page. Hmmm, maybe I should just go with the better overall player next week.

I feel a little bad about my win since Marshall's the only player that performed for me yesterday. Mostly though, I just feel euphoric that I made it this far. Sorry Seddy, you were a great opponent.

Yoda
12-14-09, 09:58 PM
I look at Yahoo's projections, but they're pretty flawed; you'll notice they never, ever predict a huge day. They predict based on half-touchdowns and the like, to kind of hedge their bets. This makes their projections somewhat decent for general ranges, but bad for marginal things; especially players who get a large percentage of their totals from touchdowns.

Anyway, it's you and me next week, Darcy. I sincerely wish you the worst of luck. :D The Ryan Grant Express might have to take a detour for Mr. Marshall.

Mrs. Darcy
12-14-09, 10:05 PM
Yeah, it's on, Yoda. Mr. Marshall can almost walk on water, so beware. In other news, the Indianapolis coaching staff said they're going to be resting starters, and that means Wayne could be benched next week. Yay me. Should be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Yoda

LTizzy with Kevin Smith out I suggest using Mendenhall & Forte as your lone RBs, Randy Moss/Santana Moss/Braylon Edwards as your WRs cause Kevin Walter has never delivered to my recall, and for QB I dont know if youd want to take a chance with Cutler vs Baltimore -The defense all QBs fear- , and Cassel is vs Clevland. Even Yahoo says Cassels the better play. Hope you win! ;)

PW I suggest dropping Brady to waivers, and bench Welker :D Actually whats funny is Hasselbeck & Burleson might be a better play vs Tampa Bay

Powdered Water
12-15-09, 11:21 PM
Missed ya last night Jay, sorry you couldn't make it. Words can not express how much I was dreading watching that entire game and possibly losing to that freakin' Warner guy. Ugh... Thankfully he was pretty terrible (which I admit, made me giggle A LOT) and I squeaked by. Great game buddy and I sure hope you'll be back next year. Your team put up a helluva fight and I wouldn't be at all surprised if LT's team does the same this week as well.

If it makes you feel any better Jay, Fitzy got hurt last night and may not play this Sunday, we shall see. Man, I sure need him too...

About Brady/Hasselbeck, I can't make the move. Seattle will most likely run the ball most of the day and its possible Hasslebeck will throw very few times. I'll have to take my chances with the guy that I basically hung my entire season's hope on and ride him out. Even with a some what sub par performance last week he's still, really, only had one stinko game this year.

Yoda
12-16-09, 12:02 PM
I'll echo that: a big congrats to Jay for a great stretch run. Fought all the way and made the playoffs in his first year. Can't argue with those results. Nicely done man; I really hope you'll come back next year.

As for Fitzgerald, PW; sounds like you're probably gonna be okay. MRI was negative and he sounds like he's gonna play. Bummer. :D

Meanwhile, I realized that I'm going to be out of town for the last two weeks of the fantasy season! Yikes. I'm leaving for North Carolina to spend Christmas with Courtney and her family on Saturday, so I'll have to snag some WiFi before the Saturday night game and again the next morning in case there are any last minute updates (doubtful, though). The real tricky part will be next week; if I'm fortunate enough to make the MoFo Bowl, I'm actually gonna be taking off for Pittsburgh right before kickoff on the 1:00 games! I think the Asheville airport has WiFi, so I should be able to make changes around 30-45 minutes before the games start, but I won't get to watch the whole thing unfold.

And, of course, what you've all been waiting for: the Agonizing Decision of the Week! Not positive what it is yet, but it's probably Tim Hightower (juicy matchup against Detroit), Quinton Ganther (getting the ball a ton), and Laurence Maroney (great matchup, still getting the ball a lot). Gotta pick two; leaning towards Maroney and Ganther. Both are getting the ball enough that they're unlikely to stick me with a crooked number. Hightower has absurd upside when he catches 5+ passes or gets the goal line carries, but that's no given.

All three of them sound like B-characters from Anchorman, though. So there's that.

Yeah I hope the guy doesnt die. From what I read it sounded like some stupid Jerry Springer level domestic dispute. The team might be on its ear from this depending how close he was to everyone. Darcy needs to stick with Kyle Orton as he just passes alot more than Garrard. Plus too its just more stylish being able to say "Orton too Marshall! Orton too Marshall!" Sigh! I guess girls just dont get stuff like that.

Somebody needs to ban this dumbass. David Garrard has almost 26 points as I type this. IM SORRY DARCY!!!

Had a fun moment sitting in the theater waiting for Avatar last night. The IMAX auditorium at the theater doesn't have reserved seating, which I usually spring for with Midnight showings so we don't have to worry about getting decent seats. So, with just regular admission tickets available, we got there about 90 minutes early (which was plenty; we got nearly perfect seats) and were just killing time.

We ended up talking to the people in front of us a bit, and my friend Adam looked up the Colts-Jaguars game (which was in the 4th quarter at that point) so I could see how D. Clark and R. Wayne were doing. Turns out a girl in the row in front of us played fantasy football and also had Clark! Obviously we loved his production, but we were both worried when we heard the Colts were losing, because an Indianpolis loss would all but guarantee little to no playing time for Clark next week, during our respective championship weeks. Might happen anyway, of course, but it's less likely as long as they're undefeated.

Anyway, it was fun to celebrate with another random fantasy owner there, and to hear that Clark had put up such great numbers. Was glad when the Colts took the lead late, too...but a little less so when Adam informed me that it was on a 65-yard pass to R. Wayne. D'oh.

Crazy that I'm only up by 4 with Clark going off like that, but I'll definitely take it given that I was up against Darcy's #1 receiver.

We'll be on the road to Washington to visit family, so I won't be able to watch the games or scores, unless by some chance I can get 3G coverage in the hills of Northern CA. on my iPhone. Maybe it's better this way. Certainly more peaceful for Slug and the kids.

I won't be on the road, but I will be out of town; hopefully I can scrounge up some WiFi, either at the place I'm staying or at some local coffee shop or something, to pop in a couple times throughout the day. Particularly tomorrow, during the Saints game.

Allright enough of this sharing and caring someones getting their ass whooped!

11 Angry Men Vs Team Darcy

With these two cancelling out each others Colt players lets review the rest of the lineup. Right now Yodas 11AM has a 4.30 lead. Darcys Housh is up against Tampa Bay = sure money. Even though she followed my bad advice and sat Garrard I do feel Orton should be worth 20 sunday, and so is Brees so that neutralizes him. Yeah. Easier said than done. The QB matchup is huge as Colston does not lead the Saints in touchdowns so that slot isnt sure $. Whats sure $ you ask? Andre Johnson vs St Louis.

So the big thing Darcy has is Orton to Marshall vs Oakland, but Oakland has it in them to play big game ball....but with a 3rd string QB I dont know. Yodas running game will probably be what saves him as Quinton Ganther seems solid, as does Maroney with a surely motivated Patriots team vs the Bills, and Pierre vs Dallas tomorrow. Darcy it was a good run but I stick with my prediction that 11 Angry Men to win it all, and yeah its due to Clark. Dallas Clark. If Yoda didnt have Clark then Reggie Waynes #s surely would have helped. Team Darcy can you surprise us?! :yup:

PWs Odd Squad Vs Wolverines

Damn I hate the Patriots. Its just the sheer obnoxiousness of them! Ev-er-y-time I look at Odd Squads totals he has a 30 projected point advantage. Well Brady to Welker is up against the 5th highest rated pass defense, and yes the 2009 Patriots can have their passing game shut down vs a tough D (see New York Jets) so Im dubious of Yahoos high projection.

Aside from the Patriot stain I see Fitzgerald vs Detroit, and the only thing that could stop him is if hes pulled to protect his knee after they get 21 points ahead. Somewhat taints that position too. Steve Smith probably wont do good vs Minny, but I think Shockey is due for a TD. I know PWs running game will beat all facets of Wolverines. Basically Wolvie even with Odd Squad reeling theres no possible intelligent way I can say hed lose either. Wolverines players would have to emerge, all at once, big, and bigger than they ever have.

Except....logic aside....it would seem 11 Angry Men Vs PWs Odd Squad is a sure fire bet. I think however an upset is in the mix. Why?! Simply because when the regular season ended 90% of the league was within a few games of each other. There is no dominant sure fire bet or prediction. SO! With that logic there MUST be an upset this weekend. My guess is the Odd Squad will get upset by Wolverines, but only because I picked Yoda to win it all.

Now if that isnt deductive predicting I dont know what is

3rd Place

Gadsden Flag Vs The Replicants

The game of the week! Damn tight matchup! MJD already has 31 points, theres still alot of top tier talent to be played though, and I feel All Day Peterson will cancel that out as its been awhile since AP had a big day and is due.

Kurt Warner was a foggy limp noodle vs the Niners but should emerge fine vs Detroit. Having said that maybe Carson Palmer would be a good play because of Henrys death. This might motivate Cinncy...might. Fred Jackson looks like a better play than Bush, but Bush just put up 25 points last week so who knows. Thats the rub of having a QB like Brees as he can throw a TD to a cheerleader even so who knows who'll get it.

McNabb might struggle Vs the Niners, but Sedais WRs will save him, and well. Jays Hakeem Nicks vs Washington "ouch!" Antonio Bryant Vs...well anybody "ouch!" and Robert Meachum vs Dallas "see above comment on Brees". Simple philosophy why Seds will win as he has top tier talent in too many slots - Calvin Johnson, Vincent Jackson, and Sidney Rice will not be denied and as the Rock says "It doesnt matter what your name is!" because those three will score points vs most anyone. Replicants to win!!!

I heard a rumor though that some Kurt Warner guy put up 50 something points in a game this season? Hmm...

Lots to say. First off, though the Saints-Cowboys game going on now is annoyingly broadcast on the NFL Network, it looks like they decided to compromise on the exclusivity deal by streaming it for free on NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/); nice! Running quite smoothly so far.

Bad news for PW; Shockey, who was listed as Questionable going into the game, is inactive. Hard to say if it's likely to make a big difference, but you never know.

Other stuff: obviously a big chunk of my matchup with Darcy will be decided tonight. Sadly, Mike Bell is active, so this could hurt Pierre Thomas. Also, Dallas just jumped out to a 7-0 lead...hard to say if a Dallas win is particularly good or bad for the prospect of New Orleans resting anyone next week. On one hand, there's no more perfect season to play for. On the other hand, if the Vikings win tomorrow against the Bears (uh...likely), they'll be just a game back for the #1 seed in the NFC. So it looks like I'll probably avoid the Saints resting guys. Dallas Clark, on the other hand...we'll see.

Yoda
12-19-09, 09:38 PM
Hmm, nevermind on the streaming. They streamed the first couple of series, but now they're just talking in studio and showing some stuff after it's happened. Odd. I guess this is a half-half (one-fourth?) measure to preserve the importance of the NFL Network. Boo. Got my hopes up.

Yeah, that's a bummer.

Just got myself to a WiFi spot here in Asheville. Had to travel yesterday so I only got a few bits and pieces while waiting to board, and then scattered stats on the TV and through my phone (the house out here doesn't have Internet, and the neighbor with WiFi is out of town. D'oh!). It was both fun and frustrating trying to do the rough math in my head, but I was about right when I compared my estimates to the totals. And barring like 18 points in a non-PPR out of K. Boss tonight, I should make the Championship in my other league.

In this one, the Saints were sub-par, but decent, which is all I thought I'd need this week. Looks like it should be plenty, even if Q. Ganther does very little tonight.

My math was a bit off with PW and LT; I knew it was low-scoring and close, but I'd thought PW was a bit ahead anyway. Tough break, man. I think the Pats are just really banged up (Brady, in particular), and that's the kind of thing that comes into play late in the season. Heckuva scary team; I'm glad I won't have to be facing it.

I guess it's me and LT in the MoFo Bowl II. Game on!

WOLVERINES Vs 11 ANGRY MEN for the 2009 MoFo Fantasy Football Championship!!!

So to all of us that played in this most choice of fantastic fantasy leagues our final game looks like a wipeout. IT SEEMS that a dominant powerhouse throughout the season will take on a team that maybe won on a fluke?!
Ok so who feels like guaranteeing Angry Men will win?! :nope:

QB - Wolvies Jay Cutler hosting Minnesota Vs 11AM Drew Brees hosting Tampa Bay

LMFAO! What a mismatch! Minnesota coming off a loss needing to redeem themselves and before them is the most dissappointing QB in the entire NFL Jay Cutler (JeMarcus Russells been benched so he doesnt count). On top of that the Saints needing redemption from their loss get to chew...er...play Tampa Bay in the Superdome. Lisa needs to hope beyond hopes they pull Brees to protect him in the playoffs, and hope he doesnt do too much damage beforehand. Clear advantage 11 Angry Men * Wolverines have benched Cutler for Cassel vs Cinncinatti. Advantage still 11AM though

WR1 - Wolvies Randy Moss hosting Jacksonville Vs 11AM Marques Colston hosting Tampa Bay

Ok this is doable. After all who knows who Brees will throw too. Lance Moore even made an appearance in the endzone last week. Regardless of Randy reproving himself last week I say these two WRs will just cancel each other out. Advantage - neither

WR2 - Wolvies Kevin Walter at Miami Vs 11AM Andre Johnson at Miami

LOL! Well I dont know!? Who do you think Matt Schaub will throw too more on sunday?! Safe to assume the best WR in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE wont be beat. Pierre Garcon doesnt beat Reggie Wayne ever, and Robin never outshines Batman Advantage - 11 Angry Men * Wolvie has benched Walter for Braylon Edwards Vs Indianapolis. Advantage still 11AM

RB1 - Wolvies Matt Forte hosting Minnesotta Vs 11AM Pierre Thomas hosting Tampa Bay

More pain from the same game. The Buccaneers have defensively re-emerged, but not to this level folks. There are two things to Lisas advantage and thats New Orleans has 3 runners so who knows who gets the ball. Another is that since Cutler is just so bad that Chicago will run the ball. If this were not Tampa Bay Id actually say advantage Wolvie, but Advantage - neither

RB2 - Wolvies Rashard Mendenhall hosting Baltimore Vs 11AM Tim Hightower hosting St Louis

Baltimore plays like a team possessed. St Louis plain sucks. Tim Hightower might even catch AND rush a TD in. Clear advantage 11 Angry Men

TE Wolvies Kellen Winslow at New Orleans Vs 11AM Dallas Clark hosting the New York Jets

The Jets shut down the Patriots. The Jets have the best defense in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. Winslow is Josh Freeman #1 target for Tampa but sometimes he'll throws it to the other team too. Advantage neither

Swing Slot - Wolvies Santana Moss hosting Dallas Vs 11AM Laurence Maroney hosting Jacksonville

Laurence Maroney sucks big fat donkey balls, but is riding the coat tails of one of the most powerful franchises in pro football. That being said he has been consistent in points, BUT Moss and Washington always play Dallas hard. Since its a PPR league, and Maroneys a jabroni I say Advantage Wolverines

K - Wolvies Matt Prater at Philladelphia Vs not again Garrett Hartley hosting Tampa Bay

I mean seriously will New Orleans ever be forced to kick a field goal sunday?! Im thinking just alot of extra points. Now Philly can slow Denver down, and I do see Prater being a more vital part of the Denver offense comparitavely. Ill go out on a limb again Advantage Wolverines

DEF - Wolvies New York Jets at Indianapolis Vs 11AM Arizona hosting St Louis

St Louis wil have to run the ball, and wont get much since theyve no passing game. Arizona could handle Adrian Peterson so Jackson wont be different. Jets/Indy will be a incredible matchup, but great fantasy points for Jet owners? No Advantage 11 Angry Men
______________

The key game for our championship is Tampa Bay at New Orleans. Remember Tampa sucks so bad the Saints could just run in a TD, but to which RB?! Will they protect Brees and pull him for playoff protection?! After all Tampa defense is playing very physical now. Do we really think not one of Wolvies players will have a breakout day?! Yeah my overall prediction has to be 11 Angry Men. Again. What the real surprise will be is this game being what our leagues been all year, in all aspects, and thats close.

I think its appropriate my 1000th post is a review in this thread. Its been a great 1000 everyone, and this place restored my faith in forums entire.

3rd Place Championship Game
PWs Odd Squad Vs Team Darcy

The first game Ive seen where PW doesnt have a 30 point advantage! YAY! A few things solidly going Odd Squads way is Brady & Welker due for a breakout game, and Jacksonville is ranked 27th in pass defense wooph! Larry Fitzgerald should chew up St Louis, and Reggie Wayne might struggle vs the Jets.

Sadly I think this one will be a blowout. TJ Housh up against a fierce Green Bay in a playoff spot hunt = bad day to be a Seahawk. PWs Ray Rice might struggle vs Pittsburgh, but with LT back Sproles vs Tenn wont net mega points needed to make up the difference in other areas. Darcys TE Gonzalez will struggle vs Buffallo, and Shockey seems a forgotten man in NO. As John Wayne said in True Grit "Too much gun."

Thanks for the analysis, TONGO. :)

Obviously the matchups look very good for me at the moment; the Saints are up against Tampa Bay and Andre Johnson is up against Miami and in the middle of a ridiculous tear. Dallas Clark has had two amazing games against two teams that were, if memory serves, among the top 5 or 6 against the TE in points allowed...

..however, with the Saints and Vikings both losing, the prospect of guys like Brees, Colston, and P. Thomas sitting a big chunk of the game is entirely plausible. They haven't formally clinched anything so I should get a solid half out of them, and they figure to sit only if they're up fairly big, but it's a real concern. Indy's scary, too; they say they'll rest anyone with an injury, and who knows what qualifies. Clark appears perfectly healthy, but I might only get a half out of him, too.

Best of luck, LT. :) I'll be in the air during a lot of the matchups, sadly, but I'll be checking in whenever possible and hoping my guys all get to stay on the field.

Ugh. I got royally screwed by Laurence Maroney, who for some reason got the fewest carries out of something like four different New England backs, even though he's been very, very good for the last two months solid. Result? 0.2 points. Anyone else I would have plugged in probably would've been good for 8-10, which would make all the difference in the world right now.

Toss in the Saints being merely decent, Andre Johnson not quite busting out, Dallas Clark playing only one half, and LT's defense utterly capitalizing on the Colts resting their starters, and it looks like it's just gonna be one bad break too many for me this year. So close. If any of these half-dozen things go the other way, I'm probably completing my title defense. EDIT: also just learned that P. Thomas was injured in the 2nd quarter and played very little after. He was decent (12 points), but that explains why he didn't have a monster game against a weak Tampa Bay rushing defense. So add that to the pile of bad breaks.

Technically I still have an outside shot; LT needs just under 16 points from Santana Moss and Matt Forte combined, and I think there's a good chance Forte has an extremely disappointing game for a variety of reasons. But the smart money's on LT at the moment, so we'll see.

Big congratulations to Lisa. She fielded a strong a team and hung around, and got a big day out of Randy Moss when she needed it most. Well done, LT. :) I hope you'll come back next year.

'Course, I gotta admit, it's tough to go down this way. Lotta crazy stuff happened that I'm only reading about now, since I was traveling most of the day. The Saints loss factored in heavily, Maroney's 0.2-point day is massive, as is Dallas Clark resting the entire second half (which simultaneously helped the Jets defense; a double-whammy). I think the biggest thing was Pierre Thomas getting hurt, though. He put up 12 points, but was shredding Tampa with 60 yards and a TD on just 6 carries, so it seems likely he could've put up another dozen, easily. He also caught 0 passes; he'd caught at least 3 in each of his last 5 games, and averaged over 6 receptions per game over the last 3. Yikes.

But so it goes. :) The slogan all year's been "Nobody Knows Anything," so it's only fitting that MoFo Bowl II had a little zaniness to it. A hearty congratulations to LT, assuming Forte doesn't lose a fumble and then go out with an injury on his first carry (I can dream, can't I? :D). You were an active, enthusiastic owner, and we'll be gunnin' for ya' next year!

On the bright side, I had a nice Christmas, got home safe, and won my other league. So yay for that. :)

Very cool. :) Quite a streak; I guess it's a two-week championship, then? I know we talked about that in the preseason a bit. Part of me still likes it, but man is Week 17 a crapshoot, so I dunno. Might make sense to ditch the two Byes, go back to four teams, and make the Championship weeks 14 and 15. We can toss all these ideas around in August, though.

I only played in two leagues and won the other one, which was nice. But I admit, I'm still bitter about MoFo Bowl II. ;) Was so close to being 3-for-3 in my first three leagues, and so many crazy things happened to foil my title defense. Yeah, we had a pretty nice balance this year. Right number of playoff teams, some reward for seeding, etc. Week 16 was a little kooky, but usually we won't have two fantasy-player-laden teams like the Saints and Colts with so relatively little to play for, I suppose.

Now look at this murderers row - Andre Johnson, DeSean Jackson, Sidney Rice, MJD, Ray Rice, and Dallas Clark! LOL! Thank gosh I wasnt present for the draft or Id have assuredly screwed it up. My only weak spot was QB and I alternated between Orton, Campbell, and Alex Smith. I said this earlier but having a stacked team doesnt really do it for me. You hardly appreciate the players you have, and theres little risk in these small leagues as the waiver wire is stacked with talent.

Both of you got a tough break this year, and Id have put all my $ on you two being in our final. If our league wasnt PPR you two would have been cause Brandon Marshall never would have gotten 50some points knocking PW out of the hunt. I like PPR better though, and really would like to see kickoff return yardage counted as special teams this year in the NFL were highlight reel exceptional.

Looking forward to fantasy baseball. Somebody should make an NFL thread for the playoff chit-chat.

Well, so much for that, the guy's team I'm against may break 300 today... Just wow. Oh, well.
