Can you smell that? Smells like, victory... Ah to be in thick of things again makes me happy. Is my little Odd squad the team that no one wants to play come play off time? That would be fun yeah? Well, for me anyway. In case you've been living inside a very small apartment with no windows and eggshells covering the walls and lots of red tape covering all the cracks around the doors and windows, PW made a big move last week all the way up to the 5 slot! Yeah, that was me.

And boy oh boy have things gotten interesting at the top too eh? All of the sudden Yoder finds himself in a dogfight for the coveted top seed of the playoffs, that he just about had wrapped up after running out to a 5-0 start but since then has gone just 2-2 and with the surging 'Bots running off a nice little 4 game streak of their own they not only have caught the Angry Men but are damn near tied in points as well! Just 30 little points separate them for the tiebreaker. These next 4 weeks are going to be huh-ooooge! And lets not forget the G.L.O.M.'s (Gorgeous Ladies Of MoFo) who both bounced back last week with much needed victories and are both right there, waiting for one of them to slip up. And then there's little old me and Mikeython watching the show and letting you all beat each other up.

The best part is... we get to do it all over again this Sunday! And there are precious few easy victories to be had in this league. So lets get to it shall we? The minor setback of only going a paltry 3-4 last week does nothing to faze this reporter because as of now, his team is in the playoffs. So who cares?!? And I'm still a glistening (I love that word) 38-25 on the year, so its not like I completely suck. I do apologize to both of you G.L.O.M.'s for picking against you last week. Its the crack, it makes me crazy.

PW's Odd Squad vs. The Taterater's

Define irony: PW's team of fantasy players gets beat by a Quarterback that PW not only traded early in the season but also hates and would rather enjoy to see him die in a fiery plane crash. The ironic part is, is that Kurt Warner plays against my other team. The one I faithfully root for year after year for better or worse and Seattle is on the road too, sigh... One small saving grace is that Warner couldn't possibly have a better day that he did last week, right? RIGHT??? That being said, most of my matchups are just too choice this week.

My pick: Odd Squad, tater tots, tater salad, french fried potaters... mmmm hmmmm

11 Angry Men vs. Beantown Champs

Supposedly the Saints have been struggling for the last few weeks. Supposedly they are a weak 8-0 team. One of only two 8-0 teams in the National Football League (that's for you Chris) and yet some of the national guys I listen to think they are overrated. Whatever. They get the Rams this week. Remember the Rams? They still suck and they still only have one good player. They are on the road, but man, I think they blow 'em out and may actually end up taking Brees out which could actually hurt the Angry Men a little. We'll see. My magic 8-ball is fuzzy on the details but you get the picture.

My pick: Angry Men get pissed on err, off, once again

Wolverines vs. Da Bears

What a game! If my team can get the W this Sunday then whoever wins this game is also a win-win for me. I could either slide into fourth place or get Da Bears off my back, so, what's it gonna be? If I had my way I'd be sitting Kevin Smith and sliding Mendenhall up to the RB2 spot and then starting Edwards in the swing. On the flipside Berrian for Mikey's team is nursing a hammy so it wouldn't surprise me to see him slide Devin Hester in there who has become a nice little receiver this year for Chicago. Still going to be close though unless that wild card of Mikey's gets a couple of crazy break out plays like he has been prone to do this season. DeSean Jackson is dangerous, to put it mildly.

My pick: Wolverines squeak by

Team Darcy vs. Hired Goons

Another tight and an also must win game for Team Darcy. Boy, does Badger ever need Rodgers to step up and hook up with that Jennings guy this week because Darcy has several nice looking matchups on her side. The good news for the Goons is that Eddie Royal guy is starting to catch a few balls so he may have found himself that third receiver after all. I just don't think it will be enough though.

My Pick: Team Darcy keeps pace

Gadsden Flag vs. TONGO

All Day is back! Barber is almost 100% and his team is in a foul mood after getting thumped by Brady and company a week ago. The good news is All Day gets the Lions this week. Sure, TONGO has the Favre and Percy Harvin but I find it hard to believe that Favre is going to be flipping the ball all over the place all day long against that piss poor defense.

My pick: Gadsden Flag gets his swerve back

Flash vs. I-L-M-F

Flash, I'm rooting for ya buddy, I hope you smack Bobby around but good. Maybe he'll update his roster but at this point I don't really care if he does. He's been managing his team from afar and it shows. Kick him while he's down!

My pick: Flash, takin' care of business

The Replicants vs. Slug's Sweeties

Now unless Sluggo is related to Nostradamus Alex Smith is still the starting QB for San Fran, so you may want to pick up another back up to play this week there Sluggo. There's several serviceable guys out there. Ask your lovely wife to help you, she knows how that waiver wire thing works. That being said, you've got your hands full with a 'Bots team that has now moved into a tie in first place and looks set to have another solid week with some pretty decent matchups. MJD going to the Jets really being the only exception but he could still very well get some nice numbers there. The guy is uh, pretty good and stuff.

My pick: The Replicants stay in contention

So there we go once again MoFo's. All in good fun. And fun this certainly is. I can't tell you all how much fun this is for me and how special this league is. Well, yes I can. This league is really the bees knees because I sort of "know" most of you and most of you really try to take care of your teams too. So thanks all and lets have ourselves one helluva a stretch run.

Benching Cedric Benson...

http://www.blogcdn.com/nfl.fanhouse.com/media/2008/09/cedric-benson-093008.jpg

No seriously Im thinking about it. Jamaal Charles has a sweet matchup vs the Raiders, Buckhalter a good one vs Washington, that swing slot goes to Crabtree for his game vs the Bears tonight, but Bensons up against Pittsburgh again. In 3 games against them hes got a total of 163 yards, and one TD. Thats bad. On average hed get me 50 yards, and Pittsburgh looks dominant every time Ive seen them. Pittsburgh are the more motivated too since the Bengals barely beat them last time.

I was 7-0 last week :);) The Rob Report will be coming at you all today after I get off work. (Yes my real names Robert)

Edit in - Nevermind. Benson got 15 points in that last Steelers game. Ive decided to play Benson, Charles, and Crabtree. Buckhalters getting the bench. They really should have three slots for RB, and WR too...

Sedai

Buckhalter over Benson? Come on now.... ;)

Yoda
11-12-09, 10:24 AM
Yeah, I think benching Benson would be a bit too cute. I do think Pittsburgh's D is going to be very, very good in the second half, but I think Benson's already at the point where you play him regardless of matchup unless you have a really great alternative.

Meanwhile, if Westbrook misses another game I think McCoy is an obvious play (Slaton's on a bye), otherwise it's between Hightower and Maroney. I'll probably just ask Courtney, ignore her flawless advice, and then be relieved when it doesn't end up mattering anyway because the Saints are playing the Rams.

TONGO
11-12-09, 07:51 PM
Yeah I was under the misunderstanding Benson had less than a 10 point game vs Pittsburgh.

Laurence Maroney aint worth a diddly damn, and shouldnt even be mentioned along with those other fine players. When New England shows interest in Larry Johnson that shows the confidence they have in their current running game.

Had a bit of a start this morning when I did my check on my team Crabtree was still stuck in pending trade land. Thought that answered my dilemna on who to play then when I went back a half hour or so later he was on my roster. Ill be on stat tonight cheering for this newcomer, and hope he blows up against Chicago bigtime! Alex Smith has the tools to be a great QB in the NFL, but even Troy Aikman only won one football game his first year.

Week 10 predictions from Mr 7-0

TONGO Vs Gadsden Flag
My talent has much easier matchups. Minnesota Vs Detroit should bring me nice points from Favre & Harvin, and besides Berrians hamstring's quirky so Favre might lean even more on Harvin. Heath Miller had a slow day vs Denver so he should be due. Dallas will have their hands full with Green Bay and theyre pissed from getting beat by Favre, and then the Bucs. Result - Tongo wins. Tongo Wins! Oh please let me win!! Ill be good and do all my chores! -sobs- I wanna be a contender and not a fantasy jocksniffer!!! -Boo hoo!-
TONGO wins in an embarrassing spectacle

Hired Goons Vs Team Darcy
If Yahoo knows anything about anything this game should be close. How tough will Dalas' defense play against Rodgers & Jennings? Thats key as Darcys Garrard & Reggie Wayne are up against tough teams in NE and the NYJ Defense. I picked Darcy as the winner, but feel now Hired Goons upset Team Darcy!

Slugs Sweeties Vs The Replicants
I know for a fact Slug knows Shaun Hill is benched, and even has refused QB offers. I dont even want to know what his thought process is. Maybe hes taking himself out of the playoffs to defer to Darcy?! Hmmmmm!? Replicants win in a gimmee

11 Angry Men Vs Beantown Champs. Oh! Saints vs St Louis! Angry Men win! Its not even right...

The Tateraters Vs PWs Odd Squad
Cadillac Williams had two broken legs in two years. Now why not Brady!? Oh I kid. :nope: Anyway Tater has no shot whatsoever unless PW benches everyone but Rice, Brady, and Welker to make it interesting. Tater salad in New England

DaBears Vs The Wolverines
This matchups so close its just silly! Every position is an even matchup, and comparable opponents except one - Kevin Smith will do better than Ladell Betts. Yep thats pretty much my whole reasoning..Darcy tames DaBears

Flash Vs ILMF
Bobbys team is just deeper in talent, and Peyton is gonna be in the game of his life vs New England. I REALLY rather would pick Flash to win, but want to go 7-0 again more. Sorry Flash.

And remember......no wagering.

Peyton in the game of his life?.....hmmmmm. He needs a big game and I think he will come out with flying colors. Yeah, my depth is a bit undepthy like, but I wager that I win, and I bet Manning scores 20+. If I lose I will grovel and make a shrine to Favre here, if I win I want one for Pey Pey, and the groveling too, especially the grovelling.. ;)

Oh wait no wagering - doggnutsacks!!

Cutler really ate it last night...

Yoda
11-13-09, 11:39 AM
Aye. It was all about the star RBs; Forte ran terribly, but caught a ton of passes and put up a great game. Gore slapped 22+ on the board, which should worry me, but I was expecting both of Pete's running backs to put up around 20 each (I'm pretty sure I can make it up elsewhere).

Glad I missed this game, though. Doesn't seem like it would've been terribly entertaining.

Gonna be fun getting back into the swing of things this week and obsessing over games as they happen, rather than afterwards.

It's kinda funny...I've liked my chances in every week except two...and both of those weeks were the weeks in which I lost. So if nothing else, I suppose I have a pretty good feel for my team. And this week, I like my chances.

Pete's obviously going to whoop me at the RB slot; Gore's already put up 22, and I'll be very surprised if Steven Jackson doesn't put up similar numbers. But the Saints are playing the Rams, and while the ball might get spread around and Colston may only put up so-so stats, I can't fathom Brees and Thomas not having good days. It helps that I'm up against Matt Ryan, who's been pretty ho-hum recently. I think I'll make up a lot of the RB margin at QB, and possibly even more at WR.

I've got the BAL defense going up against the Browns, too, which makes me giddy.

Still gotta play the games, though! Really looking forward to getting back in the swing of things. A win this week almost ensures that the clash between Seds and I in two weeks will be the biggest regular season game of the year. Bring it on!

EDIT: looking like Westbrook is more and more likely to play this week. I'd start McCoy with confidence otherwise, but if Westbrook plays, I've gotta choose between Hightower and Maroney at the RB slot. It's tempting to play both and sit Cotchery (who's in the Flex at the moment), but he seems to be at 100% and he's been awfully solid when he's played.

John Clayton just reported that DeAngelo Williams looks to be a game time decision on Sunday. Yikes. Keep an eye on that Mikeython. That could be a huge blow.

Just picked up Forsett for some insurance just in case Williams does not play. There are no rb's out there. Forsett is the best available option, I guess he is better then nothing.

We made it to Week 10 and the playoffs are still up in the air (for some of us anyway) and who knows what this Sunday will bring us. Having to leave soon to help a friend move, it doesn't leave me much time to write up my match-ups for this week before I have to go , so here are the quick versions of my Week 10 picks:

Slug's Sweeties vs. The Replicants -
This game could really go either way, but I'm gonna side ever-so-slightly with the Reps, simply because I think they have the better RB combo.

The Replicants shoehorn into the victory spot...barely

Flash vs. I-L-M-F -
This is another game that either team could easily win, but again, I'll go with the slightly better RB combo here (and Romo does have an easier defensive match-up over Peyton too) as well as the edge in the swing slot, IMO of course.

The Fox climbs up to the 4-6 rung on the ladder

The Tateraters vs. PW's Odd Squad -
Um, yeah, which one of these teams has Brady? and Welker too? Rice AND Fitzgerald on top of that? WOW....

PW rolls onto Week 11

Gadsden Flag vs. TONGO -
All-Day vs. Detroit? Flacco vs. Cleveland? 'Nuff said.

The Flag goes for his 6th "W"

Hired Goons vs. Team Darcy -
I don't have time to think this one through, so I'm flipping the Victory Coin again, Goons are Heads, Darcy gets Tails....*flip*...

Heads it is. May the Force be with You, Goons....Always

Da Bears vs. Wolverines -
Who would win this one in Nature? A Bear or a Wolverine? Well the Wolverines squad doesn't have alot of "Q"'s next to her team, and has Randy Moss going for her...

Wolverines tear Da Bears a new one

Beantown Champs vs. 11 Angry Men -
Well I believe it "hitting them while their down", and since the Men are on a "losing streak" if it can be called that, and I already have more points then him, and aren't the Saints due to lose a game soon? I know they're playing the Rams, but anything can happen on any given Sunday....

Beantown wins in a SHOCKA!!, er..I mean...Shocker!

So there ya have it, my abridged Week 10 picks. Good Luck to Everyone!! and I hope the Patriots drill the Colts a new mudhole tonight!! GO PATS!!! :D

Why would you call them PATS? Are they little containers of butter? Well they will be about as effective as a pat of butter against the Colts and melt on the field, yup. :p;)

Hope everyone has a great day, good luck to everyone except those that have butter Pats players. :)

Yoda
11-15-09, 12:57 PM
Yeah, I'm really revved up. PIT/CIN at 1:00 PM (feel very good about our chances; Cincy was totally outplayed the first time around but we let 'em hang around), and the IND/NE game tonight. Very, very exciting day of football ahead.

Of course, the Saints playing the Rams is exciting for the exact opposite reason of the games above. :D

Yeah, I may end up with that game here. No offense to your beloved Angry Men but I hope not. I prefer to be paid to watch St. Louis play if at all possible.

Usually we get the Steeler game (or a replacement AFC game) on CBS, and an NFC game (not sure how this is determined if one team is from each; home field? Dunno) on Fox. Today there's no NFC game on Fox. Weird.

Ive never seen 4 teams in the NFL so evenly matched and dominant. Colts, Saints, Steelers, & Vikings. Pittsburghs tougher than last year, and now they have Rashard Mendenhall. The defending world champions could very realistically, and deservedly repeat.

Actually talent, and depthwise the Saints would be the least impressive of the 4. I feel its their year though, but theyll earn it with competitive standard set this year.

War Vikings!!!!!

It's bizarre how these games get scheduled. They are ratings monsters no matter what the game is typically and yet it seems its up to the city in question to put the game on. I mean, there's always a game on at 1:00 and 4:00 and most cities won't put a game on opposite their home team but I've seen it happen as I'm sure you have too. But even after watching the commercials last week on FOX of the big "doubleheader" they had planned I still only got one game last week and that's just the way it is. I'm done trying to figure it out really, that's why I say I won't believe I'm getting 2 games this morning until they're both on.

I feel your pain, Seds; the Saints forgot they were playing the Rams and Colston and Thomas combined for 7.5 points. Ow. Steelers lost, too, so we were both 0-2 on the day. But the peaks would not be so high if these horrendous valleys were not so low. Or something. Nevermind, let's just say it sucks and move on.

Such a crazy week, though. Can you believe the two big matchups -- IND/NE and PIT/CIN -- both completely lived up to the hype? The former was obviously more entertaining, but both were extremely close and hard-fought. Thank goodness I kept watching the Indy game; when they were down 17 I thought about turning it off and getting on with the night a bit earlier, but I'm glad I stuck around.

I know everyone's talking about Belichick's call on 4th down, and there's no doubt it's ripe for second-guessing. I definitely get the idea behind it, though: usually, they're getting those two yards, and if they do the game's over.

To me, the more egregious problem was burning two two timeouts so that he couldn't even challenge the spot. I don't think they would have won, but they might have. The way the timeouts were burned was uncharacteristic, too; one was before the drive's first play (!), and the other to consider the call on 4th down. The first is inexcusable for any team, obviously. The second is understandable, but kinda undermines itself, as you've gotta believe the play stands a better chance of working if you catch the defense off guard a little bit.

Anyway, it was an instant classic and it was very exciting even when it wasn't that close. Both teams really tried to give it away; the Pats with some big fumbles, and Indy with some weird INTs that seem to have come out of Manning's hands all funky. No idea what was up with that; it basically never happens, let alone twice in one game.

Yoda
11-16-09, 12:19 PM
Re: Wells. Tough call. Hightower still got plenty of touches, including a big one at the goal line, though he failed to convert it. Wells got in twice, but from the 9 and 10 yard lines, respectively, if I'm remembering correctly. Probably still looking at a pretty straightforward split there, but against bad rush defenses they should both put up good numbers, methinks.

Still, Wells is getting the ball a lot more than he was earlier in the year, so I guess I'd better hope that Slaton comes back strong this week, and P. Thomas regains his form. Pretty sure Thomas' game was an aberration. That's what I'm telling myself, at least.

Meanwhile, for anyone who hasn't heard, Brian Westbrook left the game with a concussion. This, of course, being his first game back after two games missed because of...wait for it...a concussion. Very scary stuff. Saw one analyst suggest that suffering a second one right on the heels of the first could be career-threatening, and I'm hard-pressed to disagree. He's 30, which is awfully old for a running back, and this could be the beginning of the end. With an injury like this, you can't be too careful.

As a LeSean McCoy owner I obviously feel kinda dirty about the whole thing, but I still hope and pray he's alright. Really good chance he gets shut down, though, I'd say, which has some big implications for a couple of us. Sadly, it's the nature of the game.

Sedai

11-16-09, 01:30 PM

Derrick Mason is yet to play, but Jays QB Flacco is throwing to him. Have a lil feeling Flacco will outscore Mason on top of the 25 points Jay has on me now.

Jamaal Charles was a nice surprise! Got 21.70 points. Did I mention I traded Johnny Knox & Charles too Tater for Kurt Warner?! It never ends

Folks may remember me agonizing over my first round draft pick as the timer ticked down. The choice was MoJo (who had burned me in previous years) and Chris Johnson (who won the super bowl for another team of mine last year).

Chris Johnson is playing on another level entirely at this point. The most explosive and versatile back in the game right now, methinks. I was exactly ONE pick away from getting them BOTH, if one were to peruse the draft results...

TONGO
11-17-09, 06:13 PM
MoJo and Chris Johnson on the same roster?! Such a thing would break the laws of physics. What kills me is I picked Brady instead of MJD, or Brees for that matter. Next year Im gonna have it all set up so I can just let the automated selector grab the players each round from my list.
