View Full Version : MoFo Fantasy Football 2009: Week 4

Sniff, sniff... my goodness, whatever could that stench be? I think it may be my team sucking eggs. Or maybe I just farted.

The good news for this 0-3 team I suppose, is that it appears my bench is pretty damn good. Now if someone could just tell me who to play each week perhaps I could salvage a few wins before this entire season goes down the sh*tter. No? I probably wouldn't listen anyway, I'm an ass like that sometimes.

Ah week 4, now is the time to let those benches shine. For now we enter the dreaded bye weeks and what with all of the injury's that are already dotting several teams rosters, things now start getting really interesting. It will also be interesting to see if things continue for the haves (their are five of them right now) or if things level off some. This reporter is certainly hoping for the latter if he is to have any chance at getting back in this thing.

If there's a bright shiny side to the debacle that has been my season so far its apparently this. PW can pick games like the wind blows! Yep, 5-2 last week (I'm almost getting tired of this... no I'm not.) That's a big 15-6 on the season and if it weren't for how pathetic TO and the Carolina Panthers are I was within inches of a clean sweep! Whatareyougonnado?

I say continue my winning ways with another round of blindingly accurate picks for all to enjoy! Agreed? Alllll-righty then.

PW's Odd Squad vs. Slug's Sweeties

I don't know how I'm gonna do it but I have to. First off I vow not to come down off this Billboard until the Squad gets a win. It's starting to get colder in the mornings, I may need some blankets and hot soup delivered up here.

My pick: Odd Squad... inexplicably

11 Angry Men vs. The Taterators

In a bold move that will probably end up costing Chris the title, he's trading away Cedric Benson. I told him on draft day he'd be dumping him by week two so I was only a little off. Nobody's perfect. What's amazing to this reporter and the rest of the league I'm sure is the fact that Benson is good. Maybe even really good. The Bengals may be the real deal. Time will tell of course but as long as Benson stays healthy and that idiot who's name is a number continues to vie for comeback player of the year he could very well continue to shine. In return he gets Steve Slaton who before last week was perhaps the underachiever of the early season. He did have a respectable week last week but will that continue? Looks like we'll all find out together eh? What does this mean for Spuds and his hurting Taters? Not much. His boys are struggling and he's got a tough road this week against a team that may try to break 140 again with out even breaking a sweat.

My pick: 11 Angry Men = french fried taters

DaBears vs. Gadsden Flag

Now here's a matchup that exemplifies the joys and horrors of fantasy football. Mikeython is down some very key guys this week and Yahoo has Gadsden as a heavy favorite and probably rightly so. Gadsden does have Jesus himself on his side. This is why they play the games though. Barber is banged up and most likely will not play or he'll probably play very little. (which makes me happy because I have Tashard Choice!) and both of DaBears RB's look to have very soft matchups. I'm not predicting a Bears upset here but I think this one will be much closer than Yahoo has it right now.

My pick: Gadsden Flag to close for comfort

Hired Goons vs. I-Love-Megan-Fox

The question remains whether or not Bobby is going to be updating his lineup week to week. If he does I think he could pull this off this week. He may have the best Tight End in Football riding his bench and LT may play against a Pittsburgh D that almost looks ordinary with Polomalu out. I'm willing to drop one (only this once Bobby) this week if he doesn't update his lineup so I'm going out on a limb.

My pick: I-Love-Megan-Fox, cos she's purty

Flash vs. The Replicants

Do you ever get one of those funny feelings? Me too. It's sort of like that feeling you get when you realize your home team is in for a very long year because your starting QB has gone down and now you have to travel to Indianapolis to face Peyton and company. Sigh... bad feeling. Flash, get Felix Jones out of your lineup buddy because he's out for several weeks and if you're going to win this week you'll need numbers from everybody because for whatever reason I think the 'bots are going to struggle so any and all points you get will result in...

My pick: Flash, upset special of the week!

TONGO vs. Beantown Champs

Its hard to get a bead on team TONGO because he cuts and trades his entire team every three to four days. Perhaps he'll find the right combination, perhaps not. Beantown is rolling and looks primed to go to 4-0 but with TONGO already having two more trades scheduled to go down before Sunday, who knows? I'm flipping a coin.

My pick: Beantown Champs stays on the tracks

Team Darcy vs. Wolverines

And last but not least we have our first ever gorgeous ladies off MoFo squaring off to decide which lady gets to go to 4-0! Nice. We need video. And perhaps some jell-o... OK, OK, sorry! That was out of line. Seriously though, Yahoo has this one really close and I wonder if it won't be even closer by game time. I'm going with the matchups and LTIZZY looks to have the easier road.

My pick: Wolverines by a whisker

So there we have it once again MoFo's good luck to all and can somebody please get me a win already?

LTIZZY

Love reading these.

Bobby did update his lineup last week (maybe he kept Celek out on purpose? If he did? I don't recall), so I think he will again this week.

I think you might be right about Flash. Sedai's certainly the favorite, but this is probably the worst week possible to be going up against Peyton Manning...the fact that he's got Clark and Garcon going, too, means that a big day for Indy could turn into an absolute fantasy tsunami for Dionne.

One fun thing about the Benson/Slaton deal, by the way: both have great matchups. Benson's up against the anemic Browns, and Slaton's up against the Raiders.

Totally agree about the bye weeks and injuries. This is when we've got to get a bit more creative, and the teams with depth could get their reward. Should be very exciting, if only because I'm probably ordering pizza on Sunday.

Nice write up PW. Ive been scrambling like a headless jackass to make another team. Unless someone makes an offer for S Smith & or R Grant I think Ive got it.
This is the team playing Beantown Champs on Sunday.

Team TONGO version 3.20.......

QB - NYG Eli Manning @ KC projected 15.33
WR - Bal Derrick Mason @ NE 13.32
WR - Chi Johnny Knox hosting Det 10.13
RB - Cin Cedric Benson @ Cle 16.79
RB - Sea Julius Jones @ Ind 10.55
TE - SF Vernon Davis hosting St Louis 9.53
WR - Cin Andre Caldwell @ Cle 9.99
K - Den Matt Prater hosting Dal 7.92
Def - Denver Broncos hosting Dallas 6.22
Total = 99.88

Beantown Champs Yahoo projected score is 101.68 Ill be missing Steve Smith this week.

I sincerely apologize if I got on anyones nerves with my erratic 100mph trading the past 3 weeks.

Take thy beak from out of mine heart! ;)

Stephen King will probably never be quoted yet Poe makes his way even into fantasy football.

I also was 5-2, and like PW keep picking myself to win each week thereby screwing myself. AUGH!

TONGO Vs Beantown Champs

If I dont pick myself to win after all the trading, pm'ing, arguing, begging, and apologizing then what was the point? Baby! Beantown must go down, and all the way down to chinatown!!! Eli Manning is known as the most overrated QB in fantasy football, and theyre wrong. Eli beat the 2007 Patriots - Nuff' said! Cedric Benson, Knox is playing Detroit. fugedaboudit
TONGO to win. oh shut up

Hired Goons Vs I Love Megan Fox

Both QBs are facing some tough defenses, wide reciever edge goes to Fox, TE & swing slot goes to Goons. I think this will be a damn tight game, but even if Bobby does replace his bye week kicker I think Goons will win regardless. Close game.
Hired Goons to win in overtime.

Team Darcy Vs Wolverines

Two 3-0 juggernauts collide! Darcy has reason to be worried. Garard is a so-so QB while Wolvies Cutler faces Detroit. Reggie Wayne (there should be a crying smiley) will negate Wolvies Randy Moss, but better talent vs an easier schedule....sorry Darcy
Wolverine wins in a bezerker rage!

11 Angry Men Vs Taterators

Poor Tater. Hey Spud you are a tougher team but I wonder if me & you combined our rosters then maybe we'd have a shot at beating Yodas numerical nightmare that is 11 Angry Men.

The Jets could shut down 3 of Chris' New Orleans players though. Oh thats right Yoda has Cotchery for the Jets as buffer.
11 Angry Men to win. Again.

Flash Vs The Replicants

Thank you Powdered Water for letting me beat you in picks this week. Oh I dont have any idea how Flash has a shot. Flash is gonna beat the Replicants with Mewelde Moore in his lineup?! The Replicants are the #1 team to beat this year. I thought with McNabb out thered be a shining kryptonite, but damn you Sanchez!
The Replicants win in a dominant viking fashion.

Da Bears Vs Gadsden Flag

Marion Barber is ok to play! Gadsden would have beat 11 Angry Men last week if it werent for Barbers health hiccup. Da Bears have a slight edge as Antonio Bryant is being thrown too by a newbie. Devin Hester (I WANT HIM!) plays Detroit.
Da Bears are da winners.

PWs Odd Squad Vs Slugs Sweeties

Powdered Waters wide reciever corps finally will pull him out, and Brady will emerge. Its a mathematical impossibility Brady could be stifled 3 weeks in a row. Run Slug run!
Pws Odd Squad wins in hysterical tears of joy!

I think that Parkers woes will increase Moore's chances for a big game - and I think Moore may even outscore Sanchez ----hmmmm :p

You guys should predict you'll lose, as a hedge. If you win, you won't care about getting it wrong, and if you lose, you'll have some consolation. Just sayin'.

Anyway, I'm mildly concerned about Colston and Johnson going up against arguably the two best cornerbacks in the league this week, but I should only need them to put up decent numbers. I think the Saints are going to do fairly well against even the vaunted New York Jets' offense, personally, and I think playing the QB, RB, and WR is a pretty good way of guarding against getting killed, because I don't think anyone can shut their entire offense down, particularly at home. Even when the passing game stalled in Buffalo, it just opened things up for Thomas.

We'll know soon enough. This is probably the first week where my decisions about who to start are pretty clear, though. I can make a case for playing G. Coffee, who'll get 20+ touches against the Rams, but I think it's clearly Slaton/Thomas this week.

Screw that, I win big or lose big...true I usually lose big, but if I ever win -- lookout!!!....;)

TONGO
10-02-09, 11:58 PM
Well Im waffling on my swing slot. Either I play Cadillac Williams who is practicing fully with Derrick Ward having missed two practices. Also Earnest Graham is banged up, and the Bucs are playing Washington who's ranked #22 vs the run.

Or Andre Caldwell a Cin WR thats playing against the Browns. Yahoo gives a point edge to Andre. Which is better?

Wow, Week 4 already?! A quarter of the season is already behind us and some teams are looking like unstoppable juggernauts and some like doormats, but there is a lot of football left to play. Injuries, waiver wire pick-ups and trades will determine who makes the playoffs and who will be curled up into a ball on the floor crying about not making the post season. Well enough blabbin', here are my picks for Week 4:

Team Darcy vs. Wolverines -
A match-up of undefeated teams here and its a shame that someone has to lose this one. Assuming both Kevin Smith and Matt Forte play this weekend, Wolverines has the upperhand at most of her matchups and should win this one easily, BUT, if either back doesn't play, Darcy has a good chance of stealing this game away and shouldn't be counted out.

Wolverines 4 and 0 come Tuesday

PW's Odd Squad vs. Slugs Sweeties -
PW has been making changes all season to the Odd Squad and this may finally be his week. He is hoping for a HUUUUUGE day from Tom Brady and Wes Welker (me too dude ;)) and that Choice doesn't get robbed of carries from Marion Barber, but the rest of the Squad looks pretty solid and can carry him to the 1st win of his season. The Sweeties have a solid lineup and will keep it close, especially with Schaub gunning it out against the Raiders and Chris Johnson running wild on the Jags swisscheese D, but it won't be enough to keep him from going 2 and 2.

PW getting the glory

Flash vs. The Replicants -
The Replicants have been STEAM ROLLING opponents all season and racking up serious points along the way while Flash hasn't been, well, flashy, so far this year, but anything can happen on any given Sunday and Flash has a chance to stop the scoring tank this week. If Indy can abuse the Seahawks as expected, Flash can hold the Replicants at bay. The Replicants are facing some serious Defensive fronts and will need to rely on Calvin Johnson and Ronnie Brown to carry him this week with Fred Jackson splitting carries with “Beast Mode” Lynch and Mark Sanchez going up against the Bayou Bashers, he is gonna be sweatin this one big time. This is gonna be a close one.

The Replicants keep the horseshoe firmly imbedded...barely

Hired Goons vs. I-L-M-F -
I'm totally surprised Brandon Jacobs and Steve Smith aren't getting more respect from Yahoo going up against the Chiefs this weekend. They sould have tremendous numbers this weekend and could make the difference for the Fox's chance at victory, especially since he isn't playing a kicker for some reason and will need big points to make up that gapping hole in his lineup. Hired Goons looks solid all over and only a major catastrophe should keep him from the win over the lover of foxes.

Hired Goons on victory cruise control

Da Bears vs. Gadsden Flag -
Gadsden Flag will be in the playoffs. Thats right, I'm predicting that in Week 4 and he is currently 1 and 2, but the Flag is solid throughout his lineup and has the best (when healthy) RB tandem in the league. “All-Day” Peterson is a monster and is gonna have a great game Monday night, but I think his receivers are gonna make the difference this weekend. I'd have given Da Bears a chance if Rivers wasn't facing the Steelers, Portis wasn't hurt and White got more touches, but it is what it is, so no dice for him this week.

The Flag will be waving a “W”

11 Angry Men vs. The Tateraters -
As long as the Saints don't suffer from a team-wide contamination of N1H1, the Men should ride the wave to another victory, but the Jets can keep it close and crack a few eggs in the New Orleans basket Angry Men keeps his team in, which means the Taters have a chance, a very slim one, but a chance none the less.

11 Angry Men have mash potatoes with dinner this weekend

Beantown Champs vs. TONGO -
Yahoo has this pretty close and so do I. In TONGO's favor actually. The Giants should cut through the Chiefs like a hot knife through butter, and Eli can have a big “Brees-like” game if the running game gets established, so I'm worried about my chances. With Gore out and Reggie Bush facing the Jets vaulted Defense, I'm weak at RB this week and Kerry Collins isn't anything but a band-aid at best, so its looking bad for the chances of me going 4-0. If Benson and Grant go off, I'm dead in the water without a paddle. Unless TONGO makes a last minute, unexpected change at this point, it's not looking good for Beantown.

TONGO begins his winning ways in Week 4

Good Luck to Everyone!!!!!

Great writeup Piledriver. Actually I traded Grant to Tater. Ill have Cedric Benson and Seattles Julius Jones as my RBs sunday.

QB - NYG Eli Manning @ KC projected 15.33
WR - Bal Derrick Mason @ NE 13.32
WR - Chi Johnny Knox hosting Det 10.13
RB - Cin Cedric Benson @ Cle 16.79
RB - Sea Julius Jones @ Ind 10.55
TE - SF Vernon Davis hosting St Louis 9.53
RB - TB Cadillac Williams @ Was 8.52
K - Den Matt Prater hosting Dal 7.92

10-03-09, 12:42 PM
That being said, I still think you have the edge. I need several players on my team to "overachieve" at this point and it doesn't look too likely. I'd be truly surprised if I squeaked out a win. And Yahoo don't know diddley ;)

Feelin' pretty good about tomorrow. I don't think the Saints will be denied. Should be fun to watch.

Definitely becoming a little leery of the whole eggs-to-baskets ratio, not just because of the Saints, but because playing Slaton means I've got two Texans going, too. Definitely feels weird, though those are two pretty good offenses to be tied to at the moment. Anyway, I've got some good alternative RBs to play if need be, but the danger is that I won't decide to unless the entire New Orleans offense already lets me down one week.

Very hard to gauge just how important it is to spread things out. I know it's worth something, but I'm not sure how much.

Well, Welker is going to play. I'm tempted to play Henderson over McFadden (who's a borderline bust at this point thanks to the dough boy who plays QB for the Raiders) but I'm going to give him one more chance against the worst run defense in the league.

Not much else I can do really. If I can't scrape up a win this week my season is basically over. "Laces out Dan!!!"

Welker playing, eh? That's a big deal. Tough position for you to be in, PW. If he's 75%, that takes away a lot of his value, I think. But at 100% he's always a must-start against any defense.

By the by, I emailed Bobby and he said he's deliberately leaving his kicker in there to avoid having to drop someone to replace him this week.

Yoda, I know you're going to win this week, but not by much. Ben pulled through as did Chad Changemynametosoundcool. Now, to see if Grant can pull through tonight. I doubt he'll score the 15-16 points I need to get my first win, but just being within a few points difference, for a change, is better than being behind by 20-30.

Yoda
10-05-09, 11:32 AM
I'm less sure than you are. I'd say I'm more likely than not, but one big play from Grant could be enough. I'm lucky that he's not a big pass-catching back, and that he's up against Minnesota.

Anyway, under this scoring system I see some times projecting Grant for as high as 15 points, or as low as 8.4 (Yahoo), with the average coming to just under 12. So yeah, it figures to be pretty flippin' close! I got big underachieving days from Brees, A. Johnson, Colston, and Witten. An average effort from any of them would've locked this up, but that just wouldn't be as dramatic, now would it? :D

Sedai with a tough loss; Sanchez actually finished with negative points (though barely), the Steelers held V. Jackson in check, and Flash got great efforts out of P. Manning and M. Moore (who caught and threw touchdowns last night).

Big congrats to Flash, PW, and TONGO, for their first wins of the year! Possibly Spud, too, depending on how things go tonight. We may have all four winless teams emerge victorious this week, which is pretty crazy.

And, of course, Darcy emerged victorious in MoFo Girlfight 2009, thanks to huge efforts out of Bye-week-replacement David Garrard, and Sammy Morris (!). Darcy's now 4-0, and if Spud wins tonight she'll be the only undefeated team left.

Games still up in the air:

11 Angry Men vs. The Tateraters

I was actually surprised that you weren't further in the lead. Yahoo had you at 130 points, if my memory serves me correct. When I checked this morning and saw how close it was, I had to do a double-take. If I do win tonight, it'll be one for the books.

Yoda
10-05-09, 12:26 PM
Yeah, both my receivers got about half what could have reasonably been expected of them, Brees got something like a third as much, and Witten had a slow game, too. Both RBs came through, but that was expected.

So it goes! I was fairly excited about tonight's game already, and this just adds to it. Best of luck, Spudly. And by that, I mean that I hope Ryan Grant gets hit by a bus.

Funnily enough, I was actually wishing the exact same thing on Grant (literally, you can probably find the posts) last season, when I had him and he was letting me down early in the year.

I know, it was intense! PW, Jay, TONGO and I were talking in the StatTracker as you inched closer.

Kinda funny, because one of the reasons I thought I'd be okay was that Grant doesn't catch many passes; he ended up catching 4, which is more than he's caught in any game this year or last year.

In case anyone's wondering, this is the second-closest game in the league's short history; Bobby beat Swedish Chef by 0.36 points in Week 3 last year.

I kept popping in to see how he was doing, I was working on my site last night, so was more focused on that. When I went to bed, there was 3 minutes left in the game and I think I was at 96.00, so I figured I had lost, but didn't see how close it was until this morning.

Very good game, this week.

Very fun game to watch, and Yodas especially funny when scared for his teams life. Between last year, and last night the name Ryan Grant must just bring him physical pain.

I was rooting for you Spud, I really was. :)

Anyway, this week seems unlikely for victory becuase of the Packers bye week. I got Kyle Orton as my quarterback who never usually puts up spectacular numbers. I need to try and fill the tight end and kicker spot, too.

Tater if you had won.... So close to be mistaken for cruelty! Btw Michael Bush might make you some dividends as McFaddens getting surgery.
