Isn't this great? Football may very well be the very best game ever played.

After going 5-2 last week in my predictions I feel like now I may just retire from my hum drum everyday job and take all of those fantasy dollars I earned this weekend and go and retire to Fantasy Island (never saw that one comin' did ya? ;)).

It was a workman like effort from the Odd Squad but alas, Team Darcy just proved to be too much in the end for my boys in tights. Well done Darcy and now with the loss of Anthony Gonzalez for who knows how long Reggie Wayne may have an absolutely monster year for you in this format so good for you! I give you an around the world and back snap! See you in the playoffs little lady. :)

In other news Team TONGO and I may have pulled off the first ever Blockbuster trade in our humble little league. I've offered Kurt Warner and Steve Slaton for a one Mr. Tom Brady (LTIZZY will be thrilled I am sure ;)) and Correl Buckhalter. TONGO and I have reached an accord and hopefully Mr. Brady will be suited up in PW flannel and smelling of Brut Faberge after shave by Sunday and ready to rock!

Now on to more important things, like: Who's going to win this week PW? Fine. The pressure is just too much for me, so without further ado, here's my picks for this week.

The Odd Squad vs. Wolverines

Obviously, me being the homer that I am I'll be picking my squad of odd men to hand out the Wolverines first loss of the season, yeah? Yeah. Why not? LT's Wolverines are in fact facing several tough matchups this week so I may not be a complete homer after all. Nevermind... yes I am. :p

My pick: Odd Squad

11 Angry Men vs. Hired Goons

I'm a little torn here, my gut tells me to roll with the Angry Men here even though it appears his boys have some pretty stiff competition this week. And yet, he has that Brees guy and a truckload of weapons to throw two. Like my Tight End, feel free to keep that up btw Mr. Brees. Seriously. My brain (such as it is) thinks that Yahoo is underscoring some of the Hired Goons players this week and he may very well end up with the victory. I'm hungry, I'm going with my gut.

My pick: 11 Angry Men

Da Bears vs. I-Love-Megan-Fox

Looks like an interesting matchup on paper but as some of you know they don't play these games on paper. In fact, they play all of these things on my computer screen on Sundays. Cool huh? I think so. Bobby has some tough matchups and Romo may have a huge day but that won't be enough.

My pick: Da Bears goin away...

Gadsden Flag vs. The Replicants

After spending several hours online chatting with Jay, Sedai's friend and owner of Gadsden Flag I can say with out a doubt he is in my cool book. This is Jay's first year of fantasy football and he is having a blast so far. It is a lot of fun isn't it? That being said though I'm afraid I must be the bearer of bad news because even though Seds is trying as hard as he can to be Mr humble pie his team has a lot of favorable matchups and he may also have just slapped the rookie of the year into his starting lineup at QB. It's early of course but as I have nothing really riding on this I can pretty much say whatever I want right?

My pick: The Replicants

The Taterators vs. Slug's Sweeties

I have it on good authority that not only were the Sweeties out drinking the night before the big game last week but afterwords they went BBQ tipping until almost 5:00am that morning. Hence the rather poor performance in week one. This will be remedied this week as The Taterators come limping into town with one prima donna receiver already not talking to the media and another promising a "lambaugh leap" on Sunday. This one could be a whoopin'.

My pick: Sweeties, not so sweetly.

Flash vs. Beantown Champs

The Champs look like a pretty solid team. Flash has RB issues and even more so now that Jamal Lewis may be hurt and questionable for this Sunday. Keep an eye out 7th. This one may be closer than what Yahoo has but I agree with their end result.

My pick: Beantown Champs

TONGO vs. Team Darcy

As much as I'd like to pick the team that just licked my err... kicked, kicked my ass. Team Darcy has some real tough looking matchups and TONGO is expecting some new recruits into the foray so things may be looking up for the big ape.

My pick: TONGO

So there you have it Ladies and Gents. Remember, I'm only the messenger and let's all have fun out there!

You are too right here, and I am hoping to get an adjustment or 2 in before the big day. Manning has so much more potential and Miami will hopefully have a tough time holding him back.

Yoda
09-17-09, 11:32 AM
Yeah, Manning should usually play significantly better for you, 7th. He's actually got a pretty easy schedule if you believe last year's pass defense rankings are anything to go by (I'm uncertain of how much this matters, but some, I'm sure). I think he'll be back to his old self before long.

Really nice slate of games this week. I could have a really tough week against the Goons, given that they've got Rodgers and Jennings going together against Cincy. Then again, most of Cincy's many faults are on the offensive side of the ball, so maybe it won't be too bad. Couple it with Brees and Colston playing Philly, and Witten up against the Giants, however, and the matchups could kill me pretty quickly.

That is, unless I can play running back roulette effectively. I've got six guys that could reasonably play in two spots.

Should be fun to see how the big trade turns out, though it'll take some time. We might get some misleading results this week with Slaton going up against the tough Tennessee defense

WBadger
09-17-09, 05:06 PM
Yeah, your team is pretty tough, too. I think I'll get good numbers from Rodgers and Jennings, but I really need good contribution at the running back position for me. I don't expect Jones and McGahee to put up the kind of numbers they did last week.

So, I can't wait to face 6 TD Drew Brees, and 11 Angry Men.

Well its Week 2 in the MoFo League and things are starting to heat up. Tongo and PW are making a HUGE trade of Fantasy Juggernauts. Brady for Warner and Slaton for Buckhalter!! This trade may go down as the turning point for one of those two teams to win the championship or the start of a downward spiral that may never be corrected in time to save a franchise from disaster. Time will tell...but enough about trades, here are my predictions for Week 2:

Tongo vs. Team Darcy -
Well Team Darcy showed some muscle in Week 1 and I believe the trend is going to continue into Week 2. With a stronger RB core and a very slight edge at the WR position, I think Yahoo! nailed this one.
Team Darcy to win
(Note: My prediction for this match-up is based on the current, pre-trade roster.)

PW's Odd Squad vs. Wolverines -
This one may get ugly. Although Yahoo! has PW spanking the 'rines by a mile, I think the defensive match-ups per skill position for each team look tougher than Yahoo! predicts. PW should win this one, but the Wolverines have some great players that could go off at any time.
PW to get a "W" in the win column
(Note: My prediction for this match-up is based on the current, pre-trade roster.)

The Tateraters vs. Slug's Sweeties -
Well this match-up features 2 teams that left Week 1 with a nasty taste in their mouth. The good news is one of these teams will definitely have a win after this week is in the books. Why Yahoo! has the difference at nearly 40 points, I can't say, but I think I'm gonna go with them on this one.
Slug's Sweeties to feel the love in Week 2

Gadsden Flag vs. The Replicants -
A Titan against a Titan!! I expect some serious smack talk from these two participants during the lead up to their Sunday Showdown and I'm sure I won't be disappointed ;) The key to this one is PPR. Points Per Reception. And the Replicants have players that will get alot of those this week. Touchdowns on the other hand should be scarce, so I'm giving Seds the edge here simply because both teams are facing Defensive match-ups that aren't total push-overs (ok, AP is playing Detroit, but besides that) so it isn't going to be a cake walk for either side. Although AP is gonna have a field day, the rest of Flags team may suffer a few set backs, too much to over come the reception happy Replicants.
The Replicants to clone a victory in Week 2

Da Bears vs. I-Love-Megan-Fox -
Wow! Tough match-up! This one is nearly a draw, with ILMF having Tony "I Used to Date Jessica Simpson but I dumped her so I wouldn't get harassed by the Guys" Romo, D Bowe and the Tennessee D looking to have big plays this week and Da Bears with Portis and Grant looking like they could have some HUGE numbers Sunday, its gonna be tight. Because Green Bay is playing Cincy at home and Da Bears has Grant, I'm picking them to win. But don't count out Romo :dizzy:
Da Bears to feast at the winners table

11 Angry Men vs. Hired Goons -
This game I think Yahoo! got backwards. Brees shouldn't put up big numbers on the Philly D, Ward and Hightower aren't going to rack up pinball points and Washington's Defense can only beat on St. Louis for so much, not enough I think to defeat the Goons steady wins the race approach. Plus, as I said previously in the last prediction, Green Bay is playing Cincy and Rodgers should carve them up all day long.
Hired Goons to be 1-1-0 after Week 2

Beantown Champs vs. Flash -
After conceding the QB position to Flash, its looking like I have more favorable match-ups at the other positions. I'm hoping Yahoo! got this one right again ;)
Beantown to raise the roof

Good Luck to everyone! and may the Patriots destroy the Jets beyond repair :D

TONGO
09-17-09, 11:18 PM
Well Powdered Water beat everybody last week in the pick em challenge. Heres my take on week 2...

TONGO Vs Team Darcy

So the big trade depletes me of Brady, and if was Brett, Warner, or anybody but Drew Brees he'd be missed pointwise. This week I have weaker competition than Darcy, but not by much. I have Brett, Chester Taylor (yknow Robin to the Adrian Peterson Batman), and Shiancoe the MN Tight End. Really all my hopes lie on Minnesota beating Detroit badly.

Winner - TONGO

Gadsden Flag Vs The Replicants

Sedai is hurting for a QB, his Mark Sanchez is playing New England. No problemo! Har de har, and Gadsdens Flacco was the big surprise last week. Gadsden has Adrian Peterson Vs the Lions ;), Replicants has Detroits Calvin Johnson vs Minnesota :nope:, and The Replicants overall are overwhelmed by their opponents - 3 Baltimores, a Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Indy, and New England. Damn. I know Im the only one that feels this way, but Sedai if you win this it will be the upset of the week!

Winner - Gadsden Flag

PWs Odd Squad Vs Wolverines

Yahoo has PW winning without Tom Brady in his lineup. Sorry Wolvie, but this isnt gonna be your day bub'! Wolverines have Cutler & Forte Vs Pitt, Moss Vs Jets, Detroits Kevin Smith Vs Minn, and insult to injury Parkers leaving so I feel your pain Wolverines.

Winner - PWs Odd Squad

11 Angry Men Vs Hired Goons

Yoda's gonna need a V12 shot to get thru this sunday. Every single opponent of his has a great defense except one. Hired Goons Aaron Rodgers is for real, and he and the WR are playing Cinncinatti. Drew Brees wont be able to repeat last sunday vs a tough Philly, and Da Bears made a prediction someone from 11 Angry Men will be out for the season! :eek:Dun dun DUN! Yahoo has 11 Men winning, but I think this game will show there wont be anybody sweeping anybody in this league. We all are gonna have more tight games than not.

Winner - Hired Goons

The Taterators Vs Slugs Sweeties What a hilarious sounding matchup.

At first I LOL'd seeing the Yahoo score knowing the hungry doom to befall poor tater at Slugs Idaho fair. The thing is though Taterators Terrell Owens is going to do bad things to the Tampa Bay defense. Their pass protection last sunday vs Dallas was horrid. Buffallo almost beat New England so TO is gonna be big $ for Tater. Slugs Schaub, and 2 WRs will see a low point day, and Taterators Big Ben Rothlesberger is gonna be able to unwind from being held back last week Vs Tenn. This one will be the upset of the week.

Winner - Taterators

Da Bears Vs I Love Megan Fox

Megan was the big powerhouse last week, but Romo wont bring him over 30 vs NYG, nor will Bowe do well vs Oakland imo. Da Bears Deangelo and Clinton will have big #s. This will be Da Bears day, but Foxs' Santonio Holmes might be the deciding factor. An explosive fantasy performance last week vs Tenn. Also Da Bears QB Rivers play against Baltimore. Close call.

Winner - Da Bears

Flash Vs Beantown Champs

So the first thing I look at on the matchup screen is the QBs & their opponents. Flash has Peyton Manning, Champ has Matt Ryan - OUCH! Really the only thing that could hold back Flash was Jamal Lewis, but a "stinger" as they call it happens in football more than people know. Lewis imo will be fine. Great. Im the only person that thinks Flash will win. I better be right on at least one of these longshots or the fantasy taste police will ban me! :yup:

Winner - Flash

Not gonna start Warner huh? That's crazy talk.

TONGO
09-17-09, 11:41 PM
Not gonna start Warner huh? That's crazy talk.

Would you? If you had Brett Vs the Lions or taking a chance on Warner vs a tough Jacksonville D would you play Warner? Id rather be safe than sorry, and hes older than everybody but Brett Favre has it in him to beat the Detroit Lions. Would Warner give you that certainty vs the Jags?

Powdered Water
09-17-09, 11:47 PM
Yeah, I'd start him. I don't like the guy much. But that is mostly due to my being a Seahawk fan. He's a top tier QB. Just because he had a mediocre first week, he is still a potential 20 points plus guy a week. What's so special about the JAX defense?

TONGO
09-18-09, 12:03 AM
Well the last I heard thats all they got. At least they were known for their tough defense.

Well I just checked NFL.com and they arent as good as I thought. 17th overall in 2008. Obviously Im rusty working with old knowledge.

Yoda
09-18-09, 08:48 PM
Man oh man, I'm killing myself over who to start this week.

I'm pretty sure I'm playing Derrick Ward. He put up solid numbers and caught a few passes even in a time share with Cadillac last week, so I think he's unlikely to give me a big fat nothing in that spot.

After that, it's way up in the air. Willie Parker seems like the obvious play, but the goose egg potential is definitely there. Ditto with Cedric Benson, who had a very good game last week and will get pretty much all of Cincy's carries again...but he was playing against Denver, and their offense in general is pretty terrible.

I can make a perfectly good case for Jonathan Stewart, who didn't do a lot but still got plenty of touches, and who figures to get double-digit touches again. I can make a case for Tim Hightower, too, who had an absurd 12 catches for 121 yards last week...but mostly because Kurt Warner was in trouble and kept dumping off to him. AND, I can make a case for Mike Bell, who racked up 140+ on the ground, but it was against Detroit, and Pierre Thomas might be back just enough to take some carries this week against Philadelphia.

It's really nuts. I can make roughly equal cases for five different backs for a single spot. Here's hoping I get a little lucky and Pierre Thomas comes up Questionable instead of Probable, or something, and my decision gets a little easier. Because right now it's insane.

I do not see Parker having a bad year, but he may not kick it in for a week more or so.

Damn you got like 7 running backs on your team! LOL! Regarding WRs though Id play Santana Moss if I were you. Bench Andre Johnson cause Tennesssee aint gonna let him do a dayum thing. Santana will score vs St Louis. I agree on your RB picks of Ward and Hightower.

Powdered Water
09-19-09, 12:13 AM
And the hits just keep on coming for Team Darcy. LT is out this Sunday so Sproles is the man. I really should have drafted him. I've got him on two other teams but not this one. Bah. I guess we'll see if Bobby is going to be able to pay attention to his team fairly early this year because he now has a big hole to fill.

Moss is gone in the Parker trade. Anyway, Johnson's too good not to start every single week, I think, regardless of matchup. He had over 200 yards receiving against them last year, and that was when they still had Haynesworth.

It surprises me a little how quickly some guys get dumped. Pierre Thomas got dumped in this league and another I'm in. I don't expect he'll drop to my waiver position here but I nabbed him in the other league! Yeah buddy. Someone dumped Kevin Walter too, the poor man's Wes Welker I guess. I didn't get him but I have several good receivers in that league already.

Yoda
09-19-09, 09:17 PM
Thomas was limited in practice on Thursday and Friday, so it looks Bell's going to get plenty of touches again, and there's a chance they'll hold Thomas out altogether.

This could make my decision a lot easier. If Thomas is out, I've gotta go with Bell. If not, he should still get plenty of carries, and I might have to give him the nod over Parker/Hightower/Stewart.

C'mon, universe; make my choice easier.

TONGO
09-20-09, 02:59 AM
I somewhat am going thru the same thing with Favre and Warner. Favre vs the Lions or Warner vs the Jags. I think its a tough call at least. In all fairness Favres been accuse of bad throwing too so I cant say hes 100% more competent, but that Lions thingy always settles me down and Brett stays.

Btw..........Im ready for some football ;):p:)

McNabb is a definite no go. Sorry Seds. Philly signed Garcia too. Not much confidence in Kolb I reckon.

Powdered Water
09-20-09, 12:00 PM
Bad news for Bell owners, looks like Thomas is going to play. I have both of them on one team so I plan to sit them both. I'm lucky enough to have several other options on that team.

Sedai
09-20-09, 12:03 PM
How do you have Thomas? He is on Waivers right now...

Bobby B - LT is OUT - Change that roster!

mikeython1
09-20-09, 12:04 PM
I would say play Bell. Thomas is going to be limited in his carries to ease him back into the offense.I also have Pierre Thomas and he was a monster towards the end of last year I hope he can back on track.

Powdered Water
09-20-09, 12:05 PM
I have him on another team. Both of them actually. I was way down the waiver wire list too. A lot of folks not really paying attention in that league. Which is good. For moi.

09-20-09, 12:08 PM

A couple of the guys at ESPN agree with me TONGO, you should start Gage.

Walter is out. You there Badger?

Yoda
09-20-09, 01:27 PM
Hope Bobby gets LOT outta there and Badger sits Walter. Bring your A game, everybody! Someone just referred to McNabb and his injury as "McRib." Genius.

The Thomas thing is a bummer, but with my crazy RB carrousel, I might play him anyway, as nobody expects Thomas to play much, and he won't start (grrr. Thanks a lot, universe). Ironically, I was watching a streaming FF show, and right when they started talking about Thomas, the sound cut out.

Powdered Water
09-20-09, 01:34 PM
They say Thomas is the backup, so Bell is starting. He should still get pretty decent numbers.

Welker is inactive for today... meh.

09-20-09, 01:42 PM
Yeah, I saw that, but you'd already gotten him out. Quick little lineup change monkey.

Argh, really flippin' out over here. Think I'm set on Parker, but Ward/Bell/Stewart/Hightower? I'm really close to flippin' a flippin' coin.

Powdered Water
09-20-09, 01:47 PM
I like monkey's. I also like Bess, a lot. Well, I like what I've been reading about him anyway. He may get slotted into my swing spot if Burleson doesn't pan out.

Powdered Water
09-20-09, 01:55 PM
The fantasy "guru's" at CBS sportsline.com say Bell, and Taylor are both "sits" this week. Bad matchups. Its sort of funny how Hightower gets so little talk and so little playing time in most leagues. He's a total wildcard. What did he have for you last week on your banch Chris? 20 something? I know he had a bunch of dump off passes caught.

EDIT: They also agree with your reasoning on Favre over Warner TONGO. So there you have it for what its worth.

Powdered Water
09-20-09, 02:01 PM
Bummer, I only get one early game today. Bengals at Packers. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Was sort of hoping to get the Pats and the Jets. Alas.

Yoda
09-20-09, 02:18 PM
Hightower had like 25 flippin' points last week; 12 catches, 120 yards receiving. Insane, but probably can't be counted on. But he figures to get goal line carries and catch at least a few passes, so yeah, tons of upside. And a surprising number of analysts have no faith in B. Wells.

Anyway, I totally freaked out in the last 15 minutes and settled on Ward and Benson, the latter to a) continue The Experiment, and b) because most expert rankings seemed reasonably high on him. Benson's got 40 yards on the ground already, so that's somewhat reassuring.

Yeah, I'm off to a good start. Rodgers did throw an early TD, though, and could be headed for a decent game. You've got three guys going at 4:15, though, and I've got most of my guys going early, so it's a little skewed at the moment.

Brett had a respectable score. Alot higher than Bradys LOL! Oh I hate Tom Brady. No PW its not because of our infamous trade. Its that I hate Tom Brady. Chester Taylor & Justin Gage killed me. Slaton too DAYUM!

Darcy would have beat me regardless who I played though. Good for you Stacy D! Next week I will win...

A few interesting/amusing notes about Week 2:

Mikey guaranteed a win over Bobby's I-Love-Megan-Fox(es?), and delivered, but not without some drama. Steve Smith put up an absurd 29.4 points last night, leaving him just 13.76 points behind Mikey's Da Bears. The sick part? Bobby didn't check his lineup late and played Tomlinson, who was out. He almost certainly would have played Larry Johnson in his place, who put up 14.9 points, and would've won him the matchup.

It would have been particularly insane because, had this happened, Bobby would have gone into last night's game needing 28.26 points from New York's Steve Smith...and he would've gotten it! That would've been one agonizing loss.

Only one matchup still within reach; PW's down 23 with Davone Bess going tonight. Long shot, but if there's one thing we've learned already, it's that receivers can put up 20-something points without warning in a PPR league.

Last year, when my lineup was still shaking out and I wasn't sure who to play, I agonized over a choice so badly that I eventually just asked my girlfriend to pick which names she liked most, tournament-style. She correctly picked the highest-scoring player. It's safe to say this is one of the main reasons I proposed to her (the other being that, since we started dating, the Steelers have won two Super Bowls).

Yesterday, I had a similar problem, with six RBs competing for two spots. I ask her again: which names do you like? I reel them off. She says she likes Mike Bell and Tim Hightower. I cringe. I defiantly play Derrick Ward and Cedric Benson instead. Benson does fine, but Ward flops. And the kicker? Bell and Hightower finish as the top two scoring backs out of ALL SIX. The lesson, as always: nobody knows anything, and my fiance is way smarter than I am.

Meanwhile, The Cedric Benson Experiment continues, and continues to succeed! It will almost certainly be put on hiatus in Week 3, as The Experiment hits the wall that is the Pittsburgh Steeler run defense, but so far, so good. Mwahahaha. It's alive!

In semi-related news, I hate my team. After tonight's game, I'll be looking to cut a few players.

Update on Hasselbeck Mrs Darcy. He does indeed have a fractured rib. Big bummer. His status however is up in the air according to the coach. Pfft. I think he's taking a page out of the Bill Belichik play book and down playing the injury. He looked hurt bad. Unfortunately he'll most likely be listed as Questionable on Wednesday and its a total crap shoot from then on until Sunday. His backup is not a very good option this Sunday going up against Chicago either. The game is in Seattle however so that's a positive. I'm stuck with Seneca for better or worse in another league because its a 2 QB league and he's the only one available to me. I hope you have some other options. Meh.

Surprise surprise, Westbrook sprained his ankle on Sunday. LeSean McCoy anyone? Another headache for Yoder. Sucks to be you I'm sure. ;)

I am officially embarrassed - but why do my good players keep getting hurt? Oh well at least I am good a benching my best players that are not injured. :)

This week was embarrassing. Oh, well, I need to win next week though.

So we start another season. Great week 1, hope everyone else had the same fortune I did coming out 1-0. Obviously not an indicator of your season but a great start. So I come to some lineup issues.

I play in a PPR league. I am coming to a stopping block on who to put in as my #5 flex person. I have Peterson and Portis at RB and Santonio Holmes in my WR position. I picked up Earl Bennett from Chicago and he will start on my team this week. The reasoning behind this is the fact that he Cutler played together at Vanderbilt so they know each others style and what to expect. That on top of the fact that he got 13 balls thrown his way last week while Hester only had 6.

So Im down to my #5 Flex spot. I have Reggie Bush and Bernard Berrian. I play in a PPR League so there is some serious potential for Reggie but they are playing Philly this week who has a tough defense. Berrian is apparently back to full speed on things and I know Favre can get the deep ball to him but he scored zero last week. Im leaning towards Berrian since they are playing Detriot this week....and we all know what a tough defense they have.

So help me out, who to start this week, Bush against the Eagles or Berrian against the Lions?
