You definitely should. I was totally hooked (but didn't have Showtime so I'd have to wait for the DVD releases). It's such a great mix of drama and comedy (and did I mention the guys are hot?).

From what little I remember of the Brit version (I haven't seen it in years), they have some similarities but not a whole lot. Both shows center around a group of twenty something friends who go out clubbing and cruising for guys and both start with the "stud" of the group picking up a teenaged boy who becomes infatuated with him (though the boy in the American version is a few years older than the one in the Brit version).

However, the American version lasted for 5 seasons, so it was able to cover more issues and dig deeper into the lives of its characters than did the British version. I don't remember what exactly the British version covered, but the American version touched on coming out, gay bashing, AIDS (one of the men has an uncle who is dying of AIDS and also he ends up in relationship with an H.I.V. positive man), bug-chasing, cancer, drug abuse, parental rights, and gay marriage (and I'm sure I'm missing some things as well). But, of course, it's not exactly a political show or a public service announcement for the gay community. It's full of sex. Lots and lots of sex.

My honorable mentions that just missed the cut would be "The Office" (U.S.), "Psych", "Strangers with Candy", "Huff", "Law & Order: Criminal Intent", "Scrubs" and "Andy Richter Controls the Universe".Great list. "Slings & Arrows" and "The Colbert Report" are the only shows from your top 12 I haven't seen, but I either really like or love all the others. But I'm curious, Holden, what do you not like about "The Wire"?




As for my favorites... "The Sopranos", "The Wire" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" are definitely my top three. Followed by "Freaks & Geeks" (if you'd count it), "Deadwood", "Scrubs", both versions of "The Office", "How I Met Your Mother", "Spaced" and "Breaking Bad".

Also, I've recently been watching "Community" and "Modern Family", both new favorites of mine that never fail to make me laugh.

How far into it are you, Hitch? I finished seaon 4 episode 10 this week.

I think the thing I like most about the series is that, so far at least, it's been uniformly good. No real peaks or troughs, IMO, just consistantly very good.

Indeed I was. I've not yet seen any of the other Underbelly seasons, as they're yet to air over here. :(
