Some great ones there like The Singing Detective and Yes Minister/Prime Minister but ..... Going For Gold? ;D

Every time Henry Kelly asked "What am I?" I shouted something rather fruity at the screen. ;)

Talking of gameshows, what about Catchphrase? I can do a good Roy Walker. ;)

I know, but I was off school a lot and afternoon tv was still a new oddity. Never could stand Mr. Kelly though in anything he did and I too shouted a few things at the screen whenever he said that. I loved that the Brits hardly ever managed to win the quiz, even though they were against people who's first language wasn't even ENGLISH!!!

I have watched some awful quizzes though, just because I love quiz shows. I even manage to love Eggheads and that means watching Dermot (who's a crap presenter) and CJ, who's a complete cnut. I've found that it's better to watch it on Challenge, as the adverts mean that they cut most of Dermot's whittering and speed the whole thing up.

BTW, + rep for posting the infamous Mr Chips clip. Cracks me up every time.

I seem to remember it was always something like "Lars, a university professor from Oslo and Wayne, a pipe-fitter from Smethwick. Lars, what was the name of the ship on Mutiny on The Bounty?" :D

I've been in the company of Dermot Murnaghan when he was extremely drunk and must say he's a great bloke - not much of an opinion of him as a presenter though because Eggheads is something I just don't watch. I've seen Jeremy Vine present it too and, with this stupid BBC policy of making their male presenters wear suits without a tie, he looks like a man in search of a drink...

I am very happy to report that last week I managed to complete my Golden Girls DVD collection. I did have them all before, but when my ex and I seperated, I had to let him keep the seasons he paid for himself.

But I finally managed to buy the seasons I didn't have -- THANK YOU TARGET for that wonderful $8.99 deal!

I don't reallly remember how difficult the questions were, so much as it was first on the buzzer and the questions were in english. If you know the answer, surely Lars from Oslo shouldn't be beating you.

Pleased to hear that Dermot is a decent bloke. It's always good to hear that someone who's been on tv as long as him hasn't become a complete tit. He really is a poor presenter though, he should stick to reading the news or doing the Breakfast News. He was good there.

I agree with you about this 'jacket and shirt, no tie' dictate. You're right about them looking like a man looking for a drink. That hadn't occurred to me before. I think it must be because the top button's undone.

It's far worse, even, than the golf club chic of Lineker etc on MOTD - At least they wear shirts designed to be worn open-necked.

Lovefilm are selling season 1 of The A Team on DVD for just £4.99. I was tempted for a few seconds but suspect it'll be really awful when looking at it through adult eyes.

I do, though, own this:

I loved Miami Vice. My overriding memory of the whole thing though, is of Phil Collins in an episode where he muttered the immortal line; "You must take me for a right wanker, son!" Had me :rotfl:

Ever seen the documentary, Cocaine Cowboys? Apparently the events of the documentary were the inspiration for both Miami Vice and De Palma's Scarface.

I wonder what it is about Miami Vice and wankers? Remember Don Johnson's "My British friend told me to say hello to all you wankers in England!" on Wogan? Maybe not verbatim but close enough. :D

Ever seen the documentary, Cocaine Cowboys? Apparently the events of the documentary were the inspiration for both Miami Vice and De Palma's Scarface.Aye, I have, but there was a disappointing lack of Ferraris and houseboats. :(

Looking at Caity's MacGyver choice reminded me of this gem: Hardcastle & McCormick!

There seemed to be a laboratory in America making shows like that in the 80s. They're probably absolutely dire when watched now but I was a kid back then so I hoovered them all up. ;)

Something like Cheers, however, doesn't date anywhere near as much. It's still my favourite US comedy.

Me too, Tacitus and I loved Hardcastle & McCormick. Sometimes, the theme tune finds its way into my head. This was another one of those shows.

I was born in '89 and I love a lot of TV shows (and movies and music) from the 80's. :D I have a bunch of 80's TV series on DVD and such.
