I don't know why, but titling a thread such as this one is, and the Michael Jackson thread for that matter, just looks a little off. A simple R.I.P. Michael Jackson, or R.I.P. Billy Mays would suffice, and shows a little bit more of respect.

Billy was misunderstood, if you ask me. Anyone who has caught Pitchmen on Discovery would probably agree with that statement. He will be missed.

Im not sure who this guy was, but i saw the last interview he ever did and he seemed like a nice guy.

He had a pretty badass beard.

I think that Sexy created the Michael thread and the all caps "dead" was meant to read as shock. But yeah, any other time time it seems appropriate to use R.I.P. instead.

I did catch Discovery's "Pitchmen" and Billy was a hoot off screen He also opened up a bit about his personal life on that show, saying how much he regretted not being there for his wife and child when he was first getting started because he was on the road all the time. But now that he had become so successful his new daughter (too cute BTW) would always come first.

I'll miss his funny nature and his unique sales approach. R.I.P.

All the more reason why I'm starting to dislike some reality shows. You get to know these people on a personal level, which makes it more saddening when they die.

EDIT: Change the title to a more appropriate title.

That was Devils Angel, not me, but her title was very appropriate ~ who was expecting MICHAEL JACKSON to die suddenly the other day? It was complete and utter shock.

And a real showing of human emotion -- you can't expect everyone to just go "R.I.P. Michael Jackson" or "R.I.P. Billy Mays" the second the news hits.

We are not robots. It would disappoint me if I died and someone went "R.I.P. Sexy Celebrity" instead of "OH MY GOD!!!! OMG!!!!! SEXY CELEBRITY DIED!!!!!!! OMFG!!!!!! HELP ME! I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK, OH GOD, HELP HELP!!!!!!"

Who's Sexy Celebrity? :D I'm not saying that we're robots, but seeing something like So and so is dead as a thread title, seems to me is a little cold. I'm not saying that your post has to contain those exact words, you can post whatever you want.

Personally I think it shows more emotion as "X is dead/has died/etc" while I agree that "R.I.P. X" appears more respectful, the truth is that if you're not expecting to see it and you care, it'll shock you either way.

He was all over the tube and I see a lot of the products he was advertising in drugstores etc....

Rest in Peace Billy....

Thanks for changing the thread title Spud...

I liked his pitch style, personally, and he seemed to be selling reasonably useful products, too. He was from McKees Rocks, where I spent a huge chunk of my childhood, as well.

The whole thing is made a bit weirder, though, by the fact that I'd DVR'd the last few episodes of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien", and he'd been a guest on one of the shows just a few days before he died. I didn't get around to watching the episode until he'd passed away, which made for an odd experience, to say the least.

This was the only celebrity death this week that truly surprised me.

I'm in the same boat as you on that one. I read about his death on Facebook, but thought somebody was joking around because I hadn't seen it on Yahoo as a headline, but then I went to the news page and saw it, very sad.

I'm in that same boat. Although I wasn't too familiar with Michael Jackson, I took a guess that he used drugs and probably had a few big problems. He's death didn't really shock me too much.

Billy Mays on the other hand was a big shock. The guy was reaping the benefits of doing great commercials and was probably just starting to enjoy himself. Terribly sad indeed.

It's so sad and disappointing to finally discover that even Billy Mays wasn't immune to the trappings of addiction. :(
