View Full Version : A question about fate

This is a question that's been on my mind lately and I've decided to share it with you to see what you think about it.
Suppose that there was a way of finding out when the exact time and date of your death would be (nothing else e.g. how it happens). The question is whether you would want to learn the date or not and why?

To make sure I have as many things set up for my children as possible. So that they will be OK without me.
It's something I've been working on, since my health issues started a few years ago.

I don't want to know when I'm pushing up daises.
I'll give rep to the person who can tell me where thats from. ;)

Hmm, I would want to know so that I can do all the stuff I want to do before I go, but If I knew it would scare the crap out of me the few days leading up to it. I also would just like the live my life not thinking about it and the not knowing it element seems better. So I'll pick no.

Hell no!
Why the hell not? First of all, I'm not afraid of dying, but I am afraid of leaving my family unprepared for the effects of my death. Secondly, if it's really "fate", maybe you can beat it somehow if you know. At least for those who give a crap...

How would you beat fate, though? Chess?

That's actually a good question, now that I think about it - what game would you play for your soul?

Or perhaps Twister?

Seriously though I just would not want to know.
I think I could beat Death at Bridge, but you need a partner to play that game. The only thing is who would Death's partner be?

Albert.

Can't beat fate, universe course corrects itself.
Are you privy to the "Lost Ask", a transmitter to God?

I would think you'd try to accept your fate as best you could and enjoy those days the most of all.

Hmm, I would try to avoid doing anything. Turn all Howard Hughes and seclude myself peeing in jars and what not.

A countdown would suck.
I didn't think that knowing the truth made you paranoid. I thought that when you didn't know the truth but thought you did, that's what made you paranoid.

What if being told when you're going to die is the cause of you dying then?

I think we have the premise to a new movie here.

You're the filmmaker Suspect, go for it. I'd watch it.

Two to four, with (Unless I'm mistaken) parents being the only two that are for being told. We both also want to know for the same reason. For our children's well being. I honestly doubt I'd want to know, if I didn't have children.
It's a pity I'm not stoned. I can't get that to come out right, to save my life. Hell, I'm not even tired! :p

Of course, cause people who got an irrepearable disease, always talking about how much they enjoy every minute now. So when you know exactly when it happens, you can prepare yourself, set arrangments - and until this date, you can live fear-free and for the moment. Maybe you can even try some little trick, like in Final Destination. Otherwise: I don`t believe in Fate. There is no Fate.

Good. That user's logic is actually a very good reason as to why I'd probably go for it.

Yeah, the first time, it looked like garbled words. The second, much clearer and easier to understand. It also makes sense as that is mostly what you hear from people who know they're about to pass.

I'm great at Tic-Tac-Toe if I ever wanted to beat Death.
I know I'd just HAVE to know the time/day of my death... I'm always reading movie & TV spoilers, so of course I'd want to spoil my own life. I wish there was a website that had all of the details regarding your life and when you'd die.

If you do challenge Death to Tic-Tac-Toe, I'd recommend going for at least three of the corners. Once you do that, you are nigh-unbeatable.

Not even the slightest.
First of all, let's assume that you couldn't change the point of time. If you could, well then this thread is pointless.
I doubt I would be able to think of anything else. That date would always be deeply imprinted in my mind, and there wouldn't go a day where I wouldn't think about it, which would mean the rest of my life would be pested by the anticipation. That entire hypothesis that you would just be able to accept your fate and live the rest of your life to the fullest, isn't very believable to me. You wouldn't be able to, because you know. Of course you know you're going to die someday, but I don't think you think about it that much when you don't know when. At least not in my age.
You might even try to change it desperately. You'll start excessing, eating healthy and you'll spend the rest of your life, desperately trying to avoid the unavoidable and forgetting to enjoy the rest of your time.
And what if the point of time turned out to be 2 hours from now? Would you really want to spend the rest of your life running around in fear, screaming, praying, mourning the fact that you don't have time to say a proper goodbye to your family etc? Wouldn't it be better just to die suddenly, in that scenario?

I already knew that - it's my technique.
I was just looking for a picture that showed X-X-X, cause, ya know, think about it.

Why don't you ask your friend, what's his name, Psychic Steve?

No, I wouldn't. I would love my life to be unexpecting when death can happen at any time.
:nope: I live every day to its fullest anyway :yup: you never know :yup:

I'd like to know a general date but perhaps not the exact time and date. I'd want to know so I could make things as tidy as possible for my loved ones. Of course I've done that as well as I can already, whilst not knowing. I like to follow a variant of the the Girl Scout ideal, "Always leave a place as you found it." My variant is "If, possible, always leave a place better than you found it."
A few years ago I had a health scare. After reviewing everything I felt my loved ones were able and ready to do well without me. I no longer worry about death since that realization. It's been a load off my heart.
