I can't tell if this is a joke or not. It might be because meaty made it.
Don't think many people are going to show off their houses on the internet.
I will, I have to find one though or take one, as long as it does not show my address I am not sure why it would be a big deal, but hey - if anyone is crazy enough to come over to my place they are welcome. We can have some beer and stuff. :)

Austruck, that is a beautiful house. I've always loved that style of American house with the veranda, we don't really have those in the UK.
Austruck
04-04-15, 12:06 PM
It's a classic Victorian -- built around 1880 or so, and yet we are only the fourth owners. (The second owners had it for many decades.) The third owners refurbished it beautifully, restoring the crown molding and plaster work, adding Swarovski chandeliers and custom window treatments, etc. Then, for some reason, they couldn't live there anymore and sold it right when the housing market here was low, so we got it cheap and didn't have to do anything except, well, remodel the main bathroom (which was no fun!).
It's way too big in some ways, for empty nesters, but we've managed to fill up the space nicely anyway. I have a huge home office that sometimes feels like a mini-apartment all its own. :)
After having lived in a lot of dumps over my adult years, I feel so blessed to be able to live in this house and share it with family and friends whenever we can.

Since we're being all honest and stuff, here's Tatty Cottage. ;)
http://i.imgur.com/KNBAZCD.jpg
It was built in '83 as my grandparents' retirement cottage. I've owned it since 2002 but only moved in in late 2013. I'm the 7th generation (at least) of Tatty to live on that plot (there was an old farmhouse behind, long since knocked down) and grew up in a house 60yds away.
The plan for this year is to paint the fascia boards and window sills. Nothing too strenuous. ;)

Houses in the UK aren't very big anyway, we don't have as much land as houses in the US in general. I suppose we live in what you'd term a tiny house , I dunno about the cute and tidy bit tho! We could've used more space when the boys were little but now they've moved out it's fine for us two and the dog. I'm envious of your huge office, ours is in the spare bedroom.

Even though there's only one of me, I couldn't imagine living somewhere that didn't have a spare bedroom. Lived for a while in a one bedroom apartment and ended up storing stuff in relatives' houses.

This is my house, it's a terraced three bedroom house, a common type of house in inner city UK towns and cities. They look tiny from the outside, some are but some are a lot bigger as they go back quite a way. We've lived here for 27 years.

You just don't see houses like that over here any more. Our first place was a little Victorian terrace but lord knows where pictures of that went. I can find it on Street View but that's about it.
Here's our old holiday cottage in the Lake District. It was a 17th century barn conversion

I see the Withnail connection there Tatty. Great looking house :)
Our house was built in 1900. The Victorian terrace is a pretty mighty invention. I grew up in one too that was built in 1901, my brother still lives there and structurally neither his house or mine have never needed any work done on them. Well, we had the roof retiled a few years ago but that was only cos we had a few bob at the time and thought we'd better get it done while we did! He's not needed to do his roof yet but that may be the strength of slates versus tiles.
Tacitus
04-11-15, 03:11 PM
Ours was a lot smaller than yours. It was the first house we bought after getting married (cost us something like £20k!) and we stayed there for about 18 months before getting something larger. The bathroom was on the third floor, under the roof and was freezing in winter.
Found it on Street View. Second from the left in the row of red brick houses. Link (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.474808,-1.802916,3a,75y,232.61h,86.91t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s0_LkqD_pnxnT9puuyR8yPA!2e0)
Gorgeous location in photos but in reality the local kids used to hang around all summer on the grass in front of the church. Not a deal breaker in itself but Mrs T was teaching most of them so we eventually moved on. ;)
christine
04-11-15, 03:19 PM
That does look lovely but I can see that having your pupils within eyesightof your front windows isn't ideal!
Our house cost £24,750, an absolute fortune back then. My mum was having a heart attack that we were going to be owing all that money!
Tacitus
04-11-15, 03:35 PM
To give an indication as to how cheap ours was, a 3 bed ex-council semi at the time would have set you back around £45k (because that's what we bought after the terrace) and we paid 20 for Church Rd. No double glazing, no central heating, tiny kitchen etc etc but it was our first house so those problems were looked past pretty quickly. ;)

I was supposed to move into a house a few weeks ago, but the cousin of a guy I know has been stalling. When he kept mentioning things that needed to be done, I mentioned he didn't have to worry about it, and to give me a price. Never called back, so I'm living week-to-week here. If I can save some money, I'm going to see Mort Sahl in San Francisco (Mill Valley), and would recommend you see him (he's 88), not only because it's a free show, but the man started modern standup comedy (1953), and rose and fell, and rose again.
