Martin Scorsese

From what I've seen, Martin Scorsese has only made two films that I've liked (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull). But Hitchcock has always given me something to chew on.

Both my favorites but gotta give the edge to Scorsese

Hmm, two top directors in the first round? Whatever.
Also, not to be pushy, but it could be nice if maybe you could have a "best of" of the directors movies, so we have a reference.

I guess I'll do that for Round 2.

Both are two of my top favorites, but Hitchcock is my second favorite of all-time.

I'm pretty sure it was random. Movie Man even asked me way back how I decided who would go up against who.

I was thinking the same thing, but perhaps that's for us to do for the duration of each battle.
And I voted Scorsese.

Which was what again?
For some reason I'm thinking After Hours, although I think I may be wrong.

Can't decide. I've seen tons of Scorcese's stuff but all I've seen of Hitchcock's was Psycho but I was so impressed it's actually making this a hard decision. I'll watch Vertigo this week and that will decide it

Vertigo was pretty good, but nowhere near Hitchcock's best. Try to see North By Northwest, The Birds, Strangers On A Train, Rope, and Dial M For Murder sometime soon, Rice.
Pity these two aren't meeting a lot further down the bracket. Oh well...
Hitch.

Scorsese. Not keen on Hitchcock, but I respect his work.

I'm leaning towards Hitch, on a film against film basis- Scorsese probably pips it but i think i still can't decide. Expected to see these two in the final.

Winner: Martin Scorsese.
How can Hitch?
OMG, that will teach me to be at this website more often. I can't believe Scorcese beat Hitchcock. He literally defined film language.
I think this is terrible.

Scorsese is a much more visceral personal director imo.
And Hitchcock a technical perfectionist and able to manufacture suspense and drama in the smallest mundane events.
I'm not sure there would even be this long list of great directors without Hitchcock's innovations and influence.
imo, of course.
:D
IMO, as well. 'Tis a sad day...
