So some of you have probably noticed my short visits to the site lately. Well, let me let you in on the secret of why I've been gone a lot this past week.

Last Wednesday at 7:50 am, I became a father. My son, Bryson Tyler was born. He's roughly two months early, so he's been in the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) for the last week and will probably be there for another 2-3 weeks.

He's doing great, and he's making improvements every day. He's had most of his wires and monitors removed and will likely be off everything by next week.

Just so you guys know, I'm not pulling a Keyser Soze again. :D

Is he your first child?

Yes, HK, he's our first. To update everyone, he's doing well. He's got a couple more weeks in the NICU and he should be home.

Thanks guys!

For anyone wondering, that tube in his nose is his feeding tube. As his feedings are increased and the time in which he receives it is lowered, that tube should be removed. Until then, I envy him. :D

Sorry there haven't been any updates to this lately. Didn't feel like giving an update seeing as how there weren't many changes. So, let me start with the "small" stuff:

Bryson is now over 5 lbs. When he was born he was 3 lbs, 12 ozs. So, in a month he's gained almost 2 lbs.

Word from his nurses and doctor today is that he could very well be going home this weekend. He's got to be able to take 8 feedings a day through a bottle. He's very close right now. He's also got to be breathing on his own, but it won't keep him from getting home (he'll simply go home on an oxygen monitor if he's still struggling with breathing).

So there you have it. My wife is recovering well. We actually went to the zoo yesterday and spent around 3 hours walking around, so she's running at 85% right now.

That is wonderful news. I worried about him this weekend. I figured you were away because of time spent at the hospital, and such, but it still got me wondering about him. Give him a smoochy for me. :)

Yeah, we spend most of our weekend at the hospital. The little breaks in between visits are used for getting other things done.

Our eldest had a lot of complications when she was born and had to stay in hospital longer than planned, so I can empathise.

I can confidently predict a good night's sleep sometime in 2010, however, but it'll be worth it. :)

I never have a problem with sleeping. After living on a noisy ship for 3 years, I've learned to tune out a lot. I'm sure I'll get the punch from the wife now and then for not getting up on "my turn."

Not 3 years straight with no land in the middle. Yeah, you tend to walk a little funny at first when you step onto land. It's actually kind of funny to watch. For the time we're out, we're constantly swaying back and fourth, side to side just trying to keep our balance. There have been a couple of times when I found myself swaying on the pier because I swore we were still moving a little, even though the pier was made of concrete and clearly not going anywhere.
