In your opinion what is mankind's worst idea? There are so many and I think everyone has thier own idea's about this subject, so I'll start...
Weapon's of mass distruction,
Wars over religion,
Allowing convicted peadophiles and sex attackers to re-enter society,
Spoof Movie's,
these are just afew are there any other's our fellow mofoers can think of?
EDIT: Sex attackers who re-offend who cannot or choose not to be rehabilliated.

Very cool idea you've got here n3wt! I also like how you throw Spoof Movies in with some of the worst things imaginable.
A few things come to mind, the atomic bomb, cars that cost more than $25,000, greedy suits in charge of companies. Just a few things...
Everyone has thier own views and beliefs but I do agree with you religion has been the centre of many wars and it is a shame, I suppose im a hippy at heart but we should all just put our own views and beliefs to one side and become one amazing race. Im sure people may find this statement ridiculas but it is what I believe and also sadly there have been many other people who have thought the same and they have been killed. I believe there is a place for all of us to be together as one, with out war, killing, rape, murder there is no need for it and all the above is man made.
I watched The Invasion last night im not sure who has seen the movie but it is a new take on Invasion of the body snatchers starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and it got me thinking on this subject.

Sorry i didn't specify. And although i love Dostoyevsky i think there is way more to it than that. Atheists don't believe in God but that doesn't mean there isn't an established code of conduct made by society, not religion and just because atheists don't believe that God exists doesn't mean they think they can do anything they want without the fear of burning in hell or a horrible afterlife.

Having a strong legal and human rights background i have trouble agreeing with such a statement. Do you not think that former convicts (no matter what they were convicted of) are entitled to be integrated back into society with everyone else
I am well aware of the publics prevalence towards punitive segregation in our late modernity society (a governance "passionate" towards retaliatory legislation (legislation that "settles" public concern for a small period of time.

And about the money thing, it's inevitable because our world doesn't have unlimited resources therefore the people inhibiting it will bargain for what we do have and i think it's just mankind's greedy nature that makes money such a complicated matter

I can see you point mate, and I do think some sex offenders can be rehabillitated and can get back into the work place and society but there is always that small percentage of people who will and do reoffend. Im speaking as this has happened recently where I live and I honustly dont think this person will ever learn from his mistakes as he is back inside.

Movies, is the worst idea that mankind ever came up with. I mean who wants to watch a boring movie, when they have the fun of watching paint dry? :p
On my earlier point i am well aware of the public concern towards sex offenders and pedophiles in our society. After visiting many of the most prominent prisons in Ireland and seeing many cases involving sex offence charges etc, i will accept that the public ( and prisoner mentality) is that sex offenders are the worst of the worst. It seems futile to stress constitutional issues in this context as ears are somewhat deaf in this regard, i want to stress (futile i know) that recidivism rates of sex offenders are the lowest on record.

I think Religion gets a bad wrap.
Religion is not the problem, it's the people who take it in the wrong direction, that's the problem. The old saying that Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People, saying applies here as well.
I'm not one who preaches religion, or defends it. I know it has many problems and I'm usually the one pointing them out to others, but at the same time it just seems like an easy thing to blame all the time.

I didnt know this I thought if you were convicted for a sex attack you went through rehabilitation and you were released if fit. Im shocked and IMO this should be the case, unless ofcourse it is a crime beyond the thought of the individual being released.

well in the prison society sex offenders are viewed as protected persons because the rest of the prison population see them as the worst of the worst. They are kept in protective custody only released for one hour every 24 hours. Only the naivest of persons would assume that anyone would come out of prison "rehabilitated". It is sad to say this but it is the truth.
In our economic climate just guess where the last place any government is going to invest in. Its no wonder our prison system is overcrowded

Not all sex offenders are treated like that, sometimes they are entered in as 'burglars' so that the other inmates don't know they are sex offenders and i think it really depends on the severity of the crime but other than that yeah i agree with you, it'd take a looot of tax dollars to incorporate rehabilitation into the prison system, as of now it's mostly focused on punishment
As i said to n3wt a few mins ago i am jut home from an epic 11/12 hours of paddys day drinking so i will respond in my proper legal mind frame tomorrow rice, its just that i am having serious difficulty finding the right letters on the keyboard.

The term sex offender is pretty much a generic term to cover anyone convicted of rape, sexual harassment, pornography (the making of and/or distribution of), sexual battery, and child molestation/pedophilia… and after working with criminals who fit into everyone of those categories and a few who broke even those molds… I'd say there are some, who, with the right treatment, probably could be rehabilitated and enter back into society… but I personally don't think pedophiles should be allowed back into society… period. Especially those that target babies and very young children…
Peadofiles should never be allowed to see the light of day ever again :yup:
