No Australian Open thread? Shame on you. I love tennis. It's an elegant, beautiful sport. Really athletic, really intense (except women's tennis, which is a load of rubbish lately).

The Aussie Open finished earlier. 13 Slam winner Roger Federer, needing one more to equal Pete Samprass' all-time record, verses Rafael Nadal, number one in the world, who is Roger's nemesis these days - beating him in last year's Wimbledon and generally regarded as the best in the world.

Anyway, it was an awesome match, probably the best I've ever seen. Roger ran out of juice in the final deciding set, which Rafa took quite comfortably.

In the post-match presentation, though, Roger started to cry when he was speaking to the crowd :( it was heart-breaking to watch. He had a minute to 'calm down', and then spoke again (and he didn't break down this time) but you could see the tears in his eyes. and Rafael Nadal looked really uncomfotable and sad for the guy. During the press pictures, Roger looks suicidal. It was so sad.

It might be the end for his slam-winning days. One short of the record. He just can't beat Nadal. I hope he does win one more. Wimbledon is his favourite tournament - and he's won it five times now - so if he was to equal the record then it would be amazing.

And so concludes the tennis thread. See you at Wimbledon, tennis-fans!!!!!
