As this is, I believe, the first thread (other than introducing myself) I've created on this forum I hope the following;
1. This is the correct place
2. No one has posted this already and I missed it after using search.
Curious to see who of you MoFo's out there got any movies for Christmas and which ones you got? This can include television series as well.
Will post upon finding out if this is an ok thread...

Well, I may be wrong, but since this is where DVDs that we buy, own, etc . . . go, I'll move it here.
I have many, but for now I'll just post a few.
Starting Over (1979)

What's Up, Doc? (1972)

As far as duplicate threads go, there was one on what we plan on buying, or getting for Christmas.
what moive you plan on buying or gettiing as gift for christmas? (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=17994&highlight=Christmas)
I really don't know what to say here . . .
I think the only DVD I actually received this year was The Dark Knight -- the special 2-disc edition.
I did get some Christmas money, and used it to buy Mother, Murder By Numbers, The Ghost and the Darkness, Mimic, and Confidence, all used. $20 for the lot. :)

I think the only actual DVD I got was The Crying Game to replace my original one that has apparently run away... ;) I did get gift certificates and money to buy what I want though... and so far, I picked up a copy of The Dark Knight...

No movies, but my girlfriend did give me something sort of movie-related (along with some cool drawings/pictures/photographs):
Of Walking in Ice by Werner Herzog.

Other than that, my parents renewed my subscription to the TLS (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/the_tls/) (back at the end of summer as a combination birthday/x-mas gift) and my Grandparents got me the new volume of old Popeye comics:

The Herzog thing is a really awesome gift that I'd never even heard about.

Those are some of my all-time favorites.
Is Black Christmas the original, or remake? I've never seen the original, but I want to. I can't say the same for the remake.
Yoda, Mother Is hilarious. Have you seen it yet? I still think my favorite part is the food scene. Especially the protective ice covering. Something like that. She is so adorable. I posted a couple of scenes from the movie here (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=10237&page=1), in Holden's Albert Brooks thread.
Here are a few more that I have . . .

I feel like I'm forgetting something. I'll have to dwell.
That's a nice list, MovieMan8877445. Have you ever seen Death Wish, or Escape From Alcatraz before? What about the Dirty Harry Movies? What's in the western three pack?

Yeah, saw it a few years ago -- very fun movie. And yeah, she called it the "protective ice."
My favorite line in the movie, though...
"I love you!"
"I know you think you do."

I hadn't seen either before, and I still haven't seen Escape From Alcatraz before. I watched Death Wish on New Years Eve, and I didn't really like it as much as I hoped, I posted my thoughts about in the Movie Tab after I got done watching them. And for the Dirty Harry movies, I saw part of it when I was a kid, but after me loving Clint Eastwood I decided to go out and buy it. As you can see from my top 10 though, you can I really loved Dirty Harry when I got to watch it again, it may be switched out with The Thing though upon a rewatch of both. The second was almost as great as the first, and the rest of them wasn't really as great. The 4th one was the only one that I didn't actually like though, it just wasn't the same. I liked the third and fifth one, they just weren't great like the first two. And the three pack came with Two Mules For Sister Sara, Joe Kidd, and High Plains Drifter. So far I've only watched High Plains Drifter out of those, but I enjoyed it for the most part, but I was a little disappointed after finishing watching it. I'm really looking foward to watching the other two though, it'll probably be sometime within the next week.
Dead Silence
Blackadder Ultimate Collection
One Missed Call
The Dark Knight
Family Guy series 1-4

It is the 1974 original Black Christmas, yes. I have absolutely no desire to see the remake...and refuse to. The original is classic and actually pre-dates Halloween as the first Slasher genre film. It's also responsible for the PoV-Killer camera angle. Plus it has John Saxon in it...you can't got wrong with John Saxon.
As for films I purchased with Christmas money, I'd have to add to my list:
Weird Science
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (completes my Duology)
Mystic River
Wall Street
A.I Artificial Intelligence
True Romance
Demolition Man
Clash of the Titans
Unforgiven
Once Upon A Time in America
Casablanca
Enter the Dragon
Bubba Ho-Tep
Bon Cop Bad Cop
Swedish Chef

I quite liked the remake of Black Christmas. I know that I'm probably in a minority of one on that, but then I often am. I do prefer the oringal and, with the exception of casting, couldn't (and still don't) see the point of the remake.
Not sure if you could call it the first slasher though. Certainly it was released before Halloween, but I've heard/read people calling The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho and Peeping Tom the first slasher. That said, I think that Friday The 13th claims to be the first slasher as a) that was the first film to be described that way and, b) I think it was the first film to have the bodycount so high, purely for the purpose of having it so. That is, character who's only purpose was to be killed by the killer.
Also, I don't know when the POV killers camera was first used, but Peeping Tom has to be a good shout. Not only was it made in 1960, but he uses the tripod as the murder weapon and films while he kills them. Great film btw, for those who haven't seen it. Far nastier and seedy than Psycho.

I would, unfortunately, have to put you in a minority for liking the remake. On precedent I can't condone remakes. That being said, there have been a handful of remakes that really outdid the original films. It's a sticky subject as it's all a matter of opinion and we're all entitled to our own.
I've yet to see Peeping Tom, I'm almost embarrassed to admit this is the first I've heard of it. Never having heard of it would cause my ignorance for the PoV-Killer camera angle. From what I've read and heard, it was always Black Christmas. As for TCM coming before Black Christmas as a slasher...I would argue that since they were released only 10 days apart...they should share the title. There is always room for flexibility in these matters though. I could see Psycho potentially holding that title, but to me it seems a bit ubiquitous to give it that title as the only on screen death is performed by a 'slashing knife'. On top of which there are only 2 deaths in the whole film (I do believe). Regardless, this has opened me up to Peeping Tom and I must see this movie now. Thank you for that, I'd honestly never heard of it until today.
In that case, check out this handsome thread (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=14668&highlight=powell). I admit that only uconjack mentions Peeping Tom, but maybe honeykid and some others can remedy that situation now. In fact, one of the trippy things about this film, is that the leading character, played by Karlheinz Böhm, had an abusive father, shown in the home movies and played by director Michael Powell.

It sounds like we have the same opinion on remakes. Pyro made a thread on the subject here (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=11311&page=1&highlight=remakes), if you are interested. I think I've linked that thread 2-3 times this past week.
Anyway, as far as those movies go, I own the ones that I left up there in your quote, and I truly love these . . .
True Romance
Unforgiven
Casablanca
Enter the Dragon
Wall Street is real good, but A.I Artificial Intelligence put me to sleep. Literally!

If you've seen those, which do you prefer? I like the original, but John Carpenter did amazing things with his version. One of the few times that the remake is better than the original. In my opinion, anyway.

Oh, I'm a little jealous. Getting to watch Carpenter's The Thing for the first time is such a great experience. It's a great movie, which, if you're a fan of Carpenter at all, you'll enjoy. Nothing beats the first time though.
My Holiday was not filled with many DVD's this year..... I received a crappy 4 movie collection of Lethal Weapons (like I did not already own the individual movies.... and my kid received Horton Hears a Who, which has not stop playing at my house yet.
