100. Cloverfield
http://images.allmoviephoto.com/2008_Cloverfield/2008_cloverfield_002.jpg

I first saw Cloverfield the day it opened in theaters - January 18, 2008. I have to tell you, even though I own the movie on DVD, Cloverfield is mainly an awful movie if you don't see it in theaters. The cam-cord technique made the movie come to life in the theater, and that's one of the main things I liked about it. However, Cloverfield is still a pretty decent movie, and is one of the best action movies I have ever seen. Even though J.J. Abrams was inspired by Godzilla to make this movie, we never really see Matthew Broderick running around anywhere. And now that a sequel is one the rise, I couldn't be more excited. Was that really a satellite? Where did the monster come from? Was there more than one monster? All these unanswered questions may be answered in the upcoming sequel, but reality might come into place - We might never know the real answers exactly.

99. Burn After Reading
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/burnafterreading/burnafterreading1.jpg

After seeing No Country for Old Men, which I absolutely loved, I decided to see Burn After Reading the day it opened. Even though I knew No Country for Old Men was an action movie, and Burn After Reading was a comedy, No Country for Old Men was a high-octane thriller that literally made me stand up at the film's tense moments, and I thought Burn After Reading would be laugh-out-loud hilarious if the No Country for Old Men did that for me. I saw it and absolutely loved it. As I realized, it wasn't just a comedy, but it was also a thriller. The scene with Brad Pitt in the closet made me jump, because it was something I wasn't expecting. Not only having the right mood, it also has an all-star cast - including John Malkovich who I really enjoy. George Clooney is good, too. Frances McDormand, in my opinion, is extremely talented as an actress and to me it seemed like this was one of her best roles, besides Far+go (another Coen Brothers film.) I don't really care that much for Tilda Swinton, but I did like her in Michael Clayton and The Chronicles of Narnia. And Brad Pitt, happens to be one of my favorite actors, and out of all the movies he has been in, I'd have to say I loved his role in this one the most. His character acted so stupid and just... "idiotic", and that's what I liked about it.

NCFOM was definitely not an action movie, I jut had to point that out.

I'd call it a thriller but not an action film.

Yeah, but don't they sorta run together? Explosions, guns n' ammo, and the old classic western formula with murder and crime.

Not really, it's really a drama thriller. There really isn't that much action in it at all.

I'd have to agree without on the Cloverfield part. The theater version made the movie what it was.

98. Beowulf
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/beowulf/beowulf1.jpg

When I saw this movie, I didn't know what to think. First of all, I love John Malkovich, Anthony Hopkins, and Ray Winstone, so this movie was very good. But, the best thing about the movie was that it was an entirely faithful adaption of the literature piece, and it amazed me seeing it on the big screen, and Robert Zemeckis created a cinematic masterpiece.

97. Horton Hears a Who!
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/hortonhearsawho/hortonhearsawho1.gif

Being the animated feature to Dr. Seuss' original classic book, Horton Hears a Who! may be entirely unfaithful to the original, but it sure can be a fun adventure and it does have humor for all ages. Plus, Jim Carrey and Steve Carell were outstanding and they were the best for the roles.

96. Wanted
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/wanted/wanted1.jpg

Despite disliking Angelina Jolie, Wanted is a fast-paced thrill ride with one of my favorite actors, Morgan Freeman. James McAvoy is alright, but I really don't care for him. Usually, he is just in all these British movies set during the American Revolution. But Wanted is very good and it has the perfect tone for adventure.

95. Gremlins
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerofile/13300/Gremlins2.jpghttp://filmwad.com/fw_images/secondsequels/gremlins2SPLASH.jpg

Gremlins is an all-time classic. Most of the movies on my list so far have been newer movies, but trust me - there are tons of movies that will be on this list that are older like this one. Gremlins is a horror movie for the ages, filled with humor, adventure, and well... Gremlins. They're all over the place!

MovieMan8877445
01-02-09, 08:15 PM
Beowulf was just average to me, I didn't really like it at all. Having Wanted on there makes up for Beowulf being on there though.

94. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
http://thecia.com.au/reviews/h/images/harry-potter-1-1.jpg

I think the only movie in the world with a good cast and perfect story (besides Narnia), would have to be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I love all the movies mostly, but the first one I love the most, and this is the only one of my list. Very well put together, and Christopher Columbus directed, who's movies I love.

93. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/walkhard/walkhard1.jpg

It's rare that Judd Apatow creates a superb and hilarious motion picture. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is one hilarious flippin' movie. It's one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, and it kept me laughing the entire way through. John C. Reily (who sang every song himself) was inspring. And when the end comes, you'll wish it wasn't over.

92. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/talladeganights/talladeganights1.gif

Judd Apatow's Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby was another one of Judd Apatow's "rare" masterpieces. It made a spot in Will Ferrell's and John C. Reily's careers, and it pleased fans of the genre.

A top-notch faithful remake to the original, Night of the Living Dead proves that horror movies, zombie flicks, and gore splashers can be remade successfuly, but only if the director sticks to the original and tries his best to make it faithful.

89. Donnie Darko
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/04/12/fondue_donniedarko_wideweb__470x299,0.jpg

Vivid, dark, and deep - Donnie Darko is a horror movie that is better genreized as a sci-fi drama and better described as an apocalyptic thriller with an all-star cast.

88. Tropic Thunder
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/tropicthunder/tropicthunder2.jpg

Ben Stiller's Judd Apatow-like comedy explores the depths of Hell and grisly realistic war, in a comedic tone non-stop laughs and an all-star cast. Who wouldn't love this movie?

Vertical Gunn
01-02-09, 09:13 PM
87. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/forgettingsarahmarshall/forgettingsarahmarshall1.jpg

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a romantic comedy from Judd Apatow that explores the inside of love. The movie is one of Apatow's best, and that's one of the reasons I liked it. Some romantic comedies make it, some don't and fall flat on their face. This one definitely made it.

Vertical Gunn
01-02-09, 09:19 PM
86. Superbad
http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/photos/superbad/superbad1.gif

Judd Apatow's Superbad is not only his best comedy, but a perfect success in being a comedic masterpiece overall. And as the plot thickens, so do the humorous thrills.

85. Fight Club
http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/061025/15381__fight_club_l.jpg

Being one of the best movies I have ever seen, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton put on outstanding performances, and practically make the movie as good as it is.

Christ, so Talledega Nights AND Dewey Cox are apparently "rare" Apatow masterpieces in a list inundated with his other films? Have you seen the films Dewey Cox pastiches'?

Describing films as older relates to those made in the 80s?

James McAvoy stars in British movies set during the American Revolution?!?! SUCH AS?!!!

but only if the director sticks to the original and tries his best to make it faithful.

One word, Psycho. Actually, two more The Fly. I'd much rather see a director take a concept from another film and make it their own instead of recycling whats already been done which is pointless and slightly redundant. Being faithful is good when adapting other sources but i think for films the opposite applies.

James McAvoy has been in I don't know how many British movies, most set back in the "old times" (American Revoluton was a metaphor.)

For example:
Bright Young Things
Becoming Jane
Atonement

I don't guess The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe would count, but it might as well.

The beginning of Full Metal Jacket really surprised me. I wasn't expecting something like that. But it has to be one of the most realistic war movies I have ever seen. One thing that kind of made me scratch my head, was the beginning of the movie has nothing in it but cussing. But after the training section of the movie, it barely has any language at all. Not that it matters. I really liked this movie, so cheers to this.

Your last post is very confusing to me. For #15, you have a photo of Brooke Shields from The Blue Lagoon. I'm not sure what exact movie #14 is supposed to be, and IMDb lists two 2008 movies and a mini-series. #13 is not directed by Herzog, and just about the last thing anybody could call it is "powerful" since that is obviously not what it's trying to be. #11's photo is the OK cable remake directed by William Friedkin.

First of all, #15 is an image from Island of the Blue Dolphins, and that is Celia Kaye in the image, and the bird she is holding is in the movie, who's name is Lurai. And #14 was a movie released in theaters, and it also premiered on the Discovery Channel. And, I know Werner Herzog did not direct Incident at Loch Ness, but he wrote it and was in it.

I haven't seen Man on Wire or Taxi to the Dark Side, looks like I have to add a couple more to the list I've had to create since coming to this site, supplementing my other list which has been an ongoing project for years. If you like Vietnam documentaries, I'd suggest Hearts and Minds, pretty disturbing but still great, made during the end of the war. I was also a big fan of The Fog of War, containing interviews with Robert McNamara, more like a confession than an interview. The Incident at Loch Ness, might be an interesting couple of hours too, I looked it up and although it wasn't directed by Herzog (of whom I am a big fan) but it was written and produced by him. Anyway, I like the list, and appreciate the effort.

01-03-09, 07:33 PM
Bad news. I am going to have to redo my entire Top 100 list. Why?

I had a death in the family recently and it was really depressing for me. Half the movies on my top 100 list I haven't even seen, and I got them confused with other movies. It's been really hard for me.
Plus, there are some movies I said I have seen, in which I really haven't. For example, The Punisher I was getting confused with Hitman (don't know why). And Revolutionary Road, I thought was freakin' Glory Road. I just need to do this whole thing over, correct and complete, revised and entirely true, or otherwise it was a waste of time in making this thread. This whole death thing has really gotten to me for some time now, and I'm not letting this happen again. Trust me, this next top 100 is my true list, and even though the death in the family happened in October, it's been hurting me, and making me hateful, and mean. Forgive me if this upsets you, I will probably attract more and more people with my new list, and NO DOUBLE POSTING, NO TRIPPLE POSTING, NO 1 MOVIE PER POST THING. I really don't even like Puppet Master, martian leader. Sorry, I got that confused with Demonic Toys. It has just been real confusing, because I began to read my list and then I was like, I haven't seen this movie. Kept on reading, ended up I don't even remember some of the posts I made. Everybody needs to understand and just run along with it. And arguing and becoming pissed off would really hurt my feelings for my grandmother. Thanks. Hope this means we can still be friends, martian leader.
