Well, it's another short week, what with Thanksgiving and all. Three games tomorrow; Titans-Lions at 12:30, Cowboys-Seahawks at 4:15, and Cardinals-Eagles at 8:15. How sad is it that the Lions have to play on a national stage without a single win?

Anyway, another short week means less time for key lineup decisions yet again. Get 'em in soon if you have any players in these three games!

I'm up against The Face Huggers this week, who still have the concussed Marc Bulger in their lineup ahead of David Garrard, which I expect will change. The Huggers are an interesting team; struggling at 3-9, they still trot out Andre Johnson and LT, which gives them a lot of breakout potential any given week. Can't say I'm entirely comfortable with the matchup.

Sadly, the short week forces me to make a couple tough decisions sooner than I'd like. With the Steeler offense rounding into form a bit and up against a fairly weak New England secondary, this is probably the week I get Ben back into the lineup ahead of Tyler Thigpen. And if I'm playing Ben, I think I'm playing Hines Ward, too.

Can't bench Fitzgerald to make room, obviously, and I don't think I can bench Calvin Johnson, either, which means Ward gets the swing slot, and I have to sit one of the Addai/Grant/Slaton group.

Addai's got a great matchup, so he almost certainly plays. After that it gets tough...Slaton's got a pretty good matchup against Jacksonville and it looks like Ahman Green is hurt enough that he'll get the bulk of the carries again. Grant's matchup against Carolina is similar, and he's had 5 straight games with at least 10 points, and 7 straight with at least 8.

Grant might be the safer play, then. Both Jacksonville and Carolina are significantly better against the pass than the run, but the gap is wider with the Panthers. Hate the idea of benching someone as explosive as Slaton, but it might make sense this week.

The decisions seem to get a lot harder as the season goes on...

Huge week for me and if Ill be in the playoffs. I must beat PWs Odd Squad or Im out. Today both his wide recievers (Anquan Boldin Ari, Kevin Curtis Phi), his kicker (Bironas Tenn), and a running back (Barber Cowboys) are playing. I just have my tight end (Bo Scaife Tenn). This is more me hoping PW gets 20 points total....LOL! That would be something to be thankful about!
Happy T-Day MoFos

Good luck Tongo. It should be fun.

Titans are handling the Lions... The owner of Chris Johnson is going to get huge numbers from him today...

My DEF is going off a bit, too...

The Lions aren't very... uh... good. Are they? I still like the deep blue uni's though.

TONGO
11-27-08, 03:00 PM
This game is like watching the movie Hostel. Those poor Lions have no chance, and the game just keeps going, and going.

Will somebody on the Titans please throw to Bo Scaife so I can get a taste of the turkey?!

Powdered Water
11-27-08, 03:02 PM
Do they have a mercy rule in the NFL?

Powdered Water
11-27-08, 04:42 PM
And I almost changed my kicker out too. Silly me.

TONGO
11-27-08, 05:05 PM
Isnt there a 10 point cut off rule for kickers? Siiiigh! Well it was fun while it lasted. Hey ya think Marion Barber might be too full to run!? WAR SEAHAWKS!!! Oh shut up

Sedai
11-27-08, 08:06 PM
I have both Chris Johnson and Rob Bironas in my other league, and the DEF in this league... The Titans are my friends today...

Crap. It looks like Barber is done for the day. Oh well.

The week's barely started, and I'm already getting beat pretty good.
Happy Thanksgiving.

NOT a good night for McNabb to go off!

Hopefully the rest of the match goes a bit more in my favor!

My supposed #1 receiver shot himself in the leg last night

Powdered Water
11-30-08, 01:37 AM
I just saw that on ESPN. Wtf? Does smoking ganja do that nowadays? Or is he some kind of crazy person?

Swedish Chef
11-30-08, 01:45 AM
Plaxico Burress is a little crazy, but, amazingly, considering the track record of gun use among NFL players, I was still mildly surprised when I saw this on the ESPN scroll today. What are you doing, man?

Now I have to rely on Dwayne Bowe. Damn you and your itchy trigger finger Plaxico Burress!

Oh, and by the way, I can't stress enough how much fun it is to look towards the sky and shout, at the top of your lungs, PLAXICO!

Yoda
11-30-08, 04:02 AM
I think you'll be okay with Bowe, and it's not like Burress was lighting defenses up anyway, but that's still pretty bizarre (and hysterical).

Almost game time!

Last-minute decision between Slaton and Grant here. Tough one! Hope everyone else gets their last-minute decisions in.

Have fun guys. :)

Sweet! I do get the Giants/Skins game this week. Should be a good game. I really need some numbers from Portis too.

Is the live StatTracker not loading for anyone else?

Powdered Water

Worked fine for me. Maybe you need to call a tech guy or something. :p

Yoda

It works now, but for awhile there both the StatTracker and Gamecenter Flash apps were down. How odd.

Powdered Water

I think I'm in some serious trouble here, Portis may now be out also. Tongo, now's your chance.

Swedish may break 200 this week. So far every one of his guys are just simply going off! And stuff.

Replicants are in serious trouble. The Sharks are the ultimate spoiler team in our league it seems.

Really wishing I played Garcia...

Bah! Friggin' regional NFL B.S. I don't get the Steeler/Pats game. I get the Donco's and the Jets instead. Bah!?!

TONGO
11-30-08, 07:39 PM
LOL! I was just doing a league overview regarding the playoffs, and at this point the only sure thing is the Swedish Mongooses. Replicants most likely got caught this week, I might get past the Odd Squad, but next week Odd Squad & Angry Men get it on. Its even possible for Darcys Destroyers to sneak in there. I think.

Powdered Water
11-30-08, 07:50 PM
The rate I'm going I think "getting past me". Is putting it mildly. I seem to be going backwards.

Technically yes. But there's only one week after this, so the only way to sneak in would be to tie for a playoff spot and win the points-based tiebreaker, which is a pretty tall order.

Right now it looks like Swedish will be 10-3, PW and myself 9-4, and both Sedai and yourself 8-5 (naturally, none of this is certain yet, but this is the most likely scenario). The Sharks and Darcy's Destroyers would be 7-6, so for either to make the playoffs they would need to win, need Sedai AND you to lose, as well as score enough points to make up any total points deficit.

Both Darcy and The Sharks were down over 100 points (much higher in some instances) to both your team and Sedai's, though, so winning the tiebreaker would be nearly impossible.

In all likelihood four of us (me, you, Sedai, and PW) will be fighting for three playoff spots. Whoever wins my matchup with PW will be safe, while the loser will have to hope for either you or Sedai to lose, or else it'll come down to points. If it does, I'm in pretty good shape, as I came in up aboug 40 points on you and it looks like I'll add to that this week. PW probably wins any points tiebreaker, however, as Sedai's the only one close to him there.

Once the dust settles on Tuesday I'll be sure to start a thread about all this and go over the playoff scenarios. :)

I need Chicago to put up about 29 points like they did last time they played Minnesota. I've had such a terrible day though I'm not holding my breath. One TD from Purple Jesus and this game is over.

Powdered Water
11-30-08, 10:50 PM
Bummer. Chicago can't punch it in from the 1 in 4 tries and then my Defense gives up a 99 yarder. That's super. Well that should probably do it. Good game T. I thought it might be a little more entertaining, both of our teams kind of under performed this week.

I agree PW. Great game man!

My season is going down the tubes. Not that it matters, as both Bush and Gore seems to be sputtering out for the season. The 49ers are a complete mess, so Gore looks to get less work now that their season is officially in the toilet. As feared, Bush's injury has relegated him to a much more minor role as an RB, and, while he started out strong yesterday with catches, he then started dropping balls so he got yanked.

Manning had the worst game of his career yesterday, throwing multiple picks, and fumbling his only score on a QB sneak, dropping 2 points instead of gaining me 6.

With QB injuries and the Favre factor at work, I have exactly zero good receivers. Housh is banged up and is catching passes thrown by arguably the worst QB in the league right now, while Coles and Cotchery have entered the poor weather portion of their seasons, with Favre the slick-mitted statue at QB. None of my recievers are ranked in the top 20. You just can't win playoff games with a line-up like that...

During the draft, I made the decision to give up WR depth in order to secure a top 5 QB. Unfortunately for me, in all the critical games this year, Manning has blown it. He seems to excel in games I don't need his points in, while always coming up short in critical matches.

Really though, my poor talent at WR is to blame, as I never have anything to fall back on when my power trio isn't running full steam.

Forte is the lone star left standing on my team, even showing up against a stout MIN DEF this weekend. I snagged Forte off waivers in week one on a lark, and I think it's funny he is the only guy still producing consistently for me...

I will say, I never expected to be heading into the final regular season game in a do or die situation! My team is weak, and getting weaker. The day I drafted, I mentioned to Beantown that my team looked terrible, and that I had no late season staying power. I predicted that by drafting elite players on potentially terrible teams, I was setting myself up for late-season disappointment.

Alas, here we are....

I read something this morning:

"...inconsistency and Fantasy Football just don't mix"

I agree, big time...

I think you're still in decent shape. A tough few weeks, no doubt, but Manning's going to be playing hard the rest of the way, has a creampuff schedule, and you just need a win or a TONGO loss to take the last playoff spot.

During the draft, I made the decision to give up WR depth in order to secure a top 5 QB. Unfortunately for me, in all the critical games this year, Manning has blown it. He seems to excel in games I don't need his points in, while always coming up short in critical matches.
That's pretty rough, though it might end up being the difference in your season, anyway. You're going to have a 100-point lead on TONGO heading into the last game, which means you're going to win any tiebreaker. And if I were to lose and you were to win, you'd likely win a tiebreaker against me, too (I'll probably be down something like 20 points heading into the last game). So there's some value there.

Definitely -- after his game last night I looked up his numbers, and he's #1! Sick. I'm going to go through a bunch of numbers and see about putting together some informal Best/Worst lists at the conclusion of the regular season, and I think it's pretty clear that Forte is the best waiver grab of the entire season.

Anyway, keep your chin up! You control your own destiny for a playoff spot and a lot can happen once you're in, I'd imagine. Particularly with Manning likely playing right up until the end and up against some pretty poor teams during the playoff weeks.

Me too, man this has been a really fun football season. I am now a serious believer in the Pittsburgh Defense so much so that as much as I hate to do it, Barber is sitting this week. The Steelers made Matt Cassel look completely ordinary on Sunday and I'm going to do my best not to repeat that mistake so Barber is going to the bench. He appears to be a little banged up as well so its possible he won't play that much if the game gets out of hand. Which is pretty likely actually since the game is in Pittsburgh.

Good news for me though is that Cassel is going up against my pathetic Seahwks this Sunday. Bad for my team but good for my team... if you follow. Another piece of good news is the fact that Anquan Boldin has taken all of the blame for the teams Thankgiving day loss and is probablly going to seriously take it out on the also pathetic St. Loius Rams.

I need to kick some Yoda ass! Game on! And stuff.
