Okay, so this is a big week. We've got a few marquee matchups coming up and there's still ten teams alive competing for the four playoff slots.

The Flying Mongooses (6-2) vs The Replicants (6-2)

I may be a little biased here, but this is the game of the week, folks. I've got a pretty horrible feeling about this matchup and I have a sneaking suspicion Sedai's gonna completely wreck me, but we'll see. I seem to win the weeks I'm less confident about and lose the ones I think I've got in the bag. But now I've just jinxed myself. I lucked out a little because two heads on Sedai's three-headed RB monster are out of commission this week, but he's still fielding a quality team. Smart move on his part playing both Jet receivers, too. I'm so conflicted on who to start in my swing slot (Santonio Holmes, Thomas Jones, Antonio Bryant or Edgerrin James).

11 Angry Men (5-3) vs Boondock Skins (3-5)

Yoda and his Angry Men lost a heartbreaker to my Mongooses last week and he's gotta get a win here to keep pace with the leaders of the pack. The Skins need the week even more because if they lose, they're virtually out of the playoff picture. I hope Boondock switches out his inactive players; it's always a bummer when you see those cheap, one-sided affairs in key games. I actually like the makeup of both of these teams a lot, but, yeah, if Yoda starts 9 players and Boondock starts 7, Yoda's gonna take it in a walk. Of course, if the Steeler's offensive line is really that bad, all bets are off.

The Face Huggers (1-7) vs Beantown Champs (0-8)

The battle for last place rages on! Suspect's Face Huggers won their first matchup last week and look poised to take another. I feel bad for both of these teams, though, because sometimes in the head-to-head format, you're only as good as the team you play against. I've gotten lucky a few times this year, winning weeks I had no business taking. These two teams have been on the other end of the luck specturm. Bummer.

PW's Odd Squad (6-2) vs Tupac Resurrection (3-5)

If Bobby B swaps out his players, this could be a tough week for PW, but right now it looks like The Odd Squad will be all right. Tupac Res handed me he worst loss I've ever suffered in fantasy sports, so I think I'm rooting for PW's team to put a hurting on them here. Powdered Water has some glaring holes on his roster, but you can't argue with results and he seems to get big points from unlikely sources every week. Clearly an elite team in our league. And thanks for Greg Olsen, PW.

Darcy's Destroyers (4-4) vs Slug's Bubblebutts (4-4)

This is my favorite matchup of the week between two squads who both thought they were gonna be at the bottom of the standings when we first drafted our teams. Well, they're certainly in the mix now and this game could have massive playoff implications if we see a little more movement from the top teams in coming weeks. Of the three users who have voted on the site, they all say Darcy's gonna win, but either way it'll be a hard-fought victory. I think it will all come down to the quarterbacks. Can Gus Frerotte make a few plays agaianst the porous Texan D? How many INT's will Brett Favre thow? Only time will tell.

TONGO (5-3) vs The Sharks (5-3)

Another matchup with major playoff implications. The Sharks have been a hard team to predict all season long, but they've got some real good fantasy talent, especially at the WR position. And TONGO has been the hottest team in the league the past few weeks. Definitely a big-time dark horse to win the whole thing. Both of these teams are capable of putting up 50 to 150 points in any given week. Very dangerous and yet very inconsistent.

So, yeah, should be fun.

Adam (Boondock Skins) was on his honeymoon recently and asked me to update his lineup two weeks ago, which I did; he had a defense on a Bye, so I played his other one, but otherwise made no judgment calls by taking anyone else off the bench.

This past week, he was back from the trip, so I naturally assumed he'd take care of it, but didn't update his lineup, and it may have cost him the win. It's a shame, but I guess it's bound to happen sometimes.

Anyway, I'll make sure to remind him this week. The hysterical thing is that the Redskins are his favorite team, and they're squaring off against my Steelers on Monday night. Odds are very good that we'll end up watching the game together with our matchup in the balance, making for good odds that one of us will say something we can never take back.

Related note: BobbyB gave me permission in The Shoutbox to replace Bye week players from his lineup if he doesn't make it online to do so. I assume no one has any objection to this kind of stuff, so long as I don't make judgment calls or update lineups without being instructed to beforehand by the owners?

I'm 50/50 on this. Especially since he's playing me this week, so maybe more like 65/35. I'm not going to outright say, don't update his line up Yoda. But I do have a bit of a problem with it. I understand we all have life stuff, but it doesn't take that long to update your roster. Anyway, he gave you the go ahead and I'm sure you'll just sub in his guys off the bench so I guess that's cool. I just wanted to say I'm not entirely happy about it.

Yeah it is, I can't wait until Sunday! I haven't had this much fun watching football in years. I'm thinking my band of misfits is going to get back on track this week and Seds and I can start firming up our positions for MoFo Bowl 1 and a rematch of legendary proportions. Or something... No reflection on your team Swedish, I just think you've got some tough games much like a few of my guys do and you may be looking at a lower than normal score is all.

And thanks for Greg Olsen, PW.

You're welcome. I hope that doesn't bite me in the ass. I sort of wanted to keep him and I would have had I been paying better attention. I didn't realize he's going up against Detroit this Sunday. He may have another solid day. Good news for me though is; K2 is back and supposedly has smoothed over his differences with the team and the GM. He's an elite TE and hopefully he'll start putting up some numbers.

Hmm. I'd like to hear some more opinions on the roster stuff. It's a tough call. Like I said, I already subbed in a defense for Adam, but he was on his Honeymoon and there was no choice to be made; he had two defenses and one was on a Bye.

Anyone else have thoughts on BobbyB's lineup? He said he would try to get on, asked me to sub out his Bye players if he didn't, and he has TWO out there at the moment. I can see the opposite side on this, though in this instance it's basically guaranteeing a loss. All input on the matter would be appreciated.

I'm rather torn myself, though I suppose I would lean on the side of "don't do it for them, unless they explicitly ask." They should be able to find time, absolutely, but it's kind of a moot point once they're already in the league.

Quick update on the aforementioned Pittsburgh/Washington game: as I said before, my friend Adam (who I've known since we were 10) is a huge Redskins fan, and I'm obviously a rabid Steeler fan. They play on Monday Night Football, and I'll probably be watching the game at his house. We're ALSO playing each other this week, with the outcome of our matchup incredibly interwined with the game: he's starting Campbell and S. Moss, and I'm starting Roethlisberger, the PIT defense, and (probably) Hines Ward.

How ridiculous is that? An NFL game, a crucial Fantasy game, and a friendship spanning 14 years all hang in the balance.

It could have been crazier, as we toyed with the idea of actually going to the game. But this is plenty of drama as it is.

I think you've gotta sub his players in. Is it really that big of a deal to slip LJ Smith and Lendale White into the starting lineup this week? It's not like you're wheeling and dealing on the waiver wire for him. That said, though, if he was able to access the internet in order to ask you to update his lineup, why didn't he just do it himself?

How would you check stats at the game? ;)

FFB makes watching football so much more fun for me. Now I can be watching a CIN vs TB game and be totally engaged, whereas I would have just flipped the channel before.

I am looking forward to the match-up this week, but I am nervous about by RB situation. Also, I hope the weather is OK for the Jets game, as I have to run both Coles and Cotchery. Favre + Bad Weather lost me my FFB Super Bowl last year...

He said it in The Shoutbox back on the 19th, so I assume he only updated his lineup just for the next week, and not any following weeks.

But yeah, keep the opinions coming guys. We might have to hold some kind of vote on this. I'd rather not have to wield any meaningful authority or judgment here.

Lendale IS the TD leader this season. Too bad the guy can't get out of his own way, and usually gets about 6 yards per game.

I guess if it comes to a vote then I'd have to vote no. Although I am with you to some extent Swedish. I don't think its a "big deal", but I do think if you commit to something and are unable to keep up on it then people like me should be able to reap the rewards of his absenteeism. He's updated his lineup once in several weeks yeah? So either he doesn't really care or have the time, maybe both, either way he isn't here so why should someone take the time to even update his roster? If he's not going to be here its not like he's going to enjoy it if he wins or gets into the playoffs.

Yeah, and I suppose that's the main issue, he did take the time to ask Yoda to do it. So again, if it does come down to a vote then I vote no.

Im 1-3, and served a full cup o shutdafugup'. I talked no trash whatsoever because my ownage was apparent to all. Then I won! Then I kept shuting the f up and kept winning. Im serious!

Im looking forward to a fun filled day and best of wishes to The Sharks a most respectable foe.

The Sharks didn't arrange their roster last week, they left a man on bye in and an injured player, and I won. I peeked at his optimal line-up and he still would have lost, but it would have made it more interesting for me. Would have been much closer.

I'm with PW. Let the cards fall where they may if ya can't take the two minutes to adjust your team on your own.

Hm, seems we're kinda split on the issue. I'm going to email Bobby in a moment, as I'd really like to avoid making any judgment calls on this particularl issue.

Speaking of judgment calls: I've decided to play Addai, as he looks likely to get at least a decent number of carries. But I'm going back and forth on whether to play Ryan Grant or Hines Ward in the W/R slot.

Grant pros: he's a RB, and has been getting a ton of carries the last few games. Grant cons: he's up against the Titans' defense, and has NEEDED tons of carries in order to put up even decent numbers.

Ward pros: he's been Ben's go-to guy in the Red Zone all year, and we ARE in a PPR league. Ward cons: still up against a tough Redskin defense, and as a receiver it's entirely possible he simply doesn't see the ball much.

Got about an hour and a half to decide...leaning towards Ward at the moment though, largely because I figure even a bad guy puts him just a handful of points below a solid Grant game, and there's always the chance he catches a TD, which is really all that's needed to justify the start.

Powdered Water
11-02-08, 12:26 PM
None taken Tongonator.

All of the so-called fantasy experts (GEEKS) said that if you have a better option than Grant you should play him. For what ever that's worth. Ward may be a pretty decent option. Washington's defense will give up pass plays. They may be decent against the run but they do give up points. I know they're ranked 6th overall but I'm not sure I buy it. I've used them twice and they have let me down both times. So maybe they're just not a good PPR defense? I don't know.

I see you have Fred Taylor on your bench Yoda, I'd be tempted to play him versus that pathetic Cincy defense.

Yoda
11-02-08, 12:59 PM
Aye, I'm a little tempted. But you just never know how many carries he's going to get with Jones-Drew stealing so many of them. Taylor's had one great game this year, but that's about it.

Gah. I'll be mulling this one over right up until game time, I expect...

Well according to most reports he is totally healthy this week, so its a gamble to be sure but we're talking about Cincy here. They uh... what's the word I'm looking for? Stink. Yeah that's it. So Drew and Taylor could both have good days.

Anyway, one last bit on Bobby's team. All of his players except one on his bench are either out or on bye. So if you want to switch in the one guy for him go ahead. It doesn't really seem like it will matter much. He's not updating or changing out any of his team. So that's really the crux of my argument. If he's not even updating his roster I don't see the point in subbing out his players. But that being said I probably won't complain about it too much if you do. How's that for riding the fence?

I'm going to score 200 this week anyway... :D

Thats good advice he gave Yoda. Im benching Schaub, and Pennington to have Orton vs the lowly D Lions.

Powdered Water
11-02-08, 01:26 PM

Yoda
11-02-08, 01:30 PM
Thanks for making the choice easier, PW. It probably won't make a difference, but I think I will go ahead and sub White in. You're right, though; I didn't realize almost all of his bench players were out! Yikes...

Anyway, every fantasy expert ranking I've seen so far has Taylor way, way lower than Jones-Drew. Dunno if they know something we don't, but I guess they think he's "the guy" in Jacksonville this week.

Powdered Water
11-02-08, 01:41 PM
Yeah, I'm not saying I'd play him either, it would just be tempting is all. I just think Washington's defense is suspect so in the end it will not only be more fun for you if Ward is in there while you're watching the game with your buddy.

Have fun btw... take it outside if it gets ugly. No alcohol being served I hope?

Yoda
11-02-08, 01:43 PM
Think I'm going with Ward. I just looked at Taylor's game log, and it's way, way worse than I'd remembered. He doesn't have a SINGLE touchdown all year, and his big week 3 game (121 yards) still produced just 14 points. He hasn't cracked 7 (7!) in any other week.

He's put up (roughly) 6, 3.6, 2.5, and 2.4 points over the last four weeks. Carries over those four weeks: 10, 10, 3, 8.

Cincy or no, I just see so little upside. Ward just needs 4 or 5 catches for a mediocre 50 or 60 yards to match what I can reasonably expect from Taylor, unless he suddenly starts getting goal line carries (I'm guessing he's not the goal-line guy based on the goose egg in the TD column).

Of course, the last time I was this conflicted about who to go with, I ended up releasing Matt Schaub. :o

Looks like I've got a pretty comfortable lead, which'll eat into whatever drama there would have been with my friend Adam tonight. He needs Jason Campbell and Santana Moss (against the top-ranked Steeler pass defense) to outscore Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, and the Steeler defense by almost 24 points, so I'm probably good.

Slug's right; the standings are getting very tight. More and more it's looking like TONGO and I might end up going to the wire for the last playoff spot, though obviously it's too soon to tell. Another team could lose next week and swap places with one of us.

TONGO and I play next week, though, and there's a really good chance it'll end up being the most important game of the year for either of us.

I've been so ridiculously lucky in the matchups I've gotten. Like, I caught Sedai's Replicants, who are probably the best team in the league, on just about the perfect week. But I could definitely see my Mongooses coughing up a playoff slot and I'm not even all that comfortable about facing the lowly Face Huggers next weekend. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Hey, Yoda, you've got a tremendous conflict of interest tonight. Did you know that every time (http://www.chinapost.com.tw/sports/american-football/2008/11/01/181288/‘Redskins-Rule’.htm) the Washington Redskins win their last home game directly preceding a presidential election, the incumbent party always wins? So that means that for this week at least, a Steeler victory would guarantee an Obama presidency while a Skin win would guarantee a McCain presidency.

So what's it gonna be, Commish? Hometown Steeler glory and fantasy bragging rights over your best friend or an old maverick in The White House and four more years of Tina Fey's Palin impersonation?

Yoda
11-03-08, 12:47 PM
Aye, I read that, though I forgot to mention it here. That article's surprisingly sloppy, though; the trend held until 2004, when the Redskins lost, and Bush won re-election anyway. Still an impressive average, though.

That said, I'll take McCain-Palin over Black-and-Gold. ;)

11-03-08, 12:57 PM
I really had no wiggle room at all this week, and then my sub doesn't play a snap. Tough stuff. Still, I had a few instances like this last season, and have been pretty lucky thus far in this league. I guess I was due... I just shored up my RB depth a bit, with a risky, yet somewhat consistent J Charles, for the chiefs. With both Smith and LJ out, and a soft match-up next week, it might be a decent flex option come Sunday.

Yoda
11-03-08, 01:08 PM
Hey, it's only fair -- you're pretty much unstoppable with Bush, Gore and Forte all in at the same time. This is the only way the rest of us have a chance. ;)

I think Charles was a great pickup; I'd probably have grabbed him myself by now if you haven't.

Still, I'm looking at some ridiculous choices next week. Even assuming I bench Addai (I think I might), for my W/R slot I'll have to choose between Ward, Colston, and McAllister (if he's not suspended). If I DO play Addai, it gets worse, as I have to add Ryan Grant to the mix.

Can't Colston just have a big, breakout game to make the W/R slot decision a lot easier for me the rest of the year?!

Sedai
11-03-08, 01:10 PM
I still don't trust 3 WR sets, especially with my middling WRs... McAllister is the clear play, to me. They said they won't look at the suspension until late November, which should free him up for the rest of the reg fantasy season up until the playoffs.

Didn't get much outta Ben, but I didn't need it. Steeler defense went off with 7 sacks, 2 INTs, and a blocked punt. Goodtimes.

Huge win for Pittsburgh. This team is a Super Bowl contender even with a porous offensive line. The offense comes up with a couple big plays every game, runs decently no matter what, and the defense is absolutely ferocious.

Sorry Adam, I already cuffed Pittman, snagging Torain earlier today. My back situation is pretty bad, and I need to get some depth, and fast. Hopefully Torain pans out.
