Thought I'd start this one a bit early.

Gotta say, I don't like my chances this week. I'm up against Swedish's Flying Mongooses (Mongeese?), who have been quite formidable thus far. Addai's probably out, Grant is on a Bye, Ben and Ward are going against the Giants' defense, and Colston did absolutely nothing in his first game back (except drop two passes).

I have a couple small bright spots, one being that Swedish is playing Brees against his own defense (San Diego). Normally, this would be a perfect time for him to take advantage of his depth at QB with his tremendous back, Aaron Rodgers, but this is Green Bay's Bye week. Quite a twist, eh? A huge game for Brees will help more than it'll hurt, of course, but it is a mitigating factor.

Should be interesting.

Your face is gonna be a mitigating factor when The Mongooses get through with it.

Yoda

Few have insulted Mewelde Moore and lived to tell about it. Tread lightly, my friend.

10-22-08, 08:01 PM
Just saying Mongooses makes me chuckle, I don't know why... Funny word I guess.

I'm playing O'Sulivan and a receiver that everyone will know after this Sunday when San Fran gets done kicking my beloved Seahawks all over the field. A one Josh Morgan. I expect about a 50 point day between the two of them so yeah, Slug's in trouble and its only Wednesday.

Powdered Water
10-22-08, 08:03 PM
Oh and Mewelde Moore looks like a pretty solid back to me Yods, The Giants are due for a let down eventually.

Yoda
10-22-08, 08:11 PM
He could be, but Parker is due back (possibly), so he may be splitting carries. If Parker is out, I'm probably starting Moore. If Parker is questionable or better, I'll have to think long and hard about playing someone else, like Fred Taylor. Hopefully the news on Parker will be definitive enough to make the decision a little less complicated.

Powdered Water
10-22-08, 08:36 PM
I thought I heard he was out. I don't get to listen to my sports radio station as much as I used to at work but if I hear about it for sure I'll check in later. Even if Parker's going to play though I doubt he'll get the bulk of the carries don't you think?

Yoda
10-22-08, 08:51 PM
Not sure, honestly. Even if he only gets close to half, though, half the carries to a guy with just a couple good games under his belt against a stout defense doesn't exactly get me excited. I have a few options if I decide not to go with Moore, but this is definitely the time of year where you have to get a little creative.

Slug
10-23-08, 12:35 AM
In spite of the fact that the Bubblebutt's are at the moment shown to be big underdogs for this weeks games, they will show up and play.
We shall see what happens.

Slug
10-23-08, 11:55 AM
I expect about a 50 point day between the two of them so yeah, Slug's in trouble and its only Wednesday.
That's a ton of points.
I may unleash a secret weapon though.

I have a super tough week lined up, with two of my top backs out for various reasons, and Mr. Coles with a concussion. I am placing my chances on the shoulders of McGahee (always a risk) and a NO back-up... Although Deuce is next on the depth chart, Thomas has 3 TDs on the season to Deuce's 1, and he catches more passes, so I will go with the risky play with more potential upside.

Sedai
10-24-08, 11:05 AM
Perhaps Santonio Holmes should participate in the MoFo Mary-Jane thread. He got busted with three blunts (http://rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&hl=128236&id=3635) last night. I would get a replacement on the bench, pronto, if I owned him on my league... He will play a couple more games until it goes to court, after which I am betting on perhaps a four-game vacation for the rhastafarian pass grabber.

Swedish Chef
10-24-08, 12:38 PM
I sat him down for a nice, long talk and I've decided to keep him on the team.

Yoda
10-24-08, 12:58 PM
Dude, Swedish is probably the guy he was lighting up with.

But yes, let's keep piling up these mitigating circumstances, so I have a shot this week.

Sedai
10-24-08, 01:12 PM
I'm thinking I have another tough loss to face this week. I don;t have a good sub for Manning/Clark, who face the ridiculous Tennessee D this week... They have allowed exactly ONE passing TD this season... ONE!!!

Yoda
10-24-08, 01:28 PM
Ah yes, the one upside to my "QB and DEF from the same team" homer formula. ;)

These Bye weeks are totally crazy. First few weeks of the season, I remember thinking that, for the most part, they were just going to play out based on how we'd all drafted. Now that we get into the middle of the season, pickups and matchups seem to matter more and more. It's getting very interesting.

Yoda
10-24-08, 02:54 PM
And, right after picking McCallister up, he tests positives for steroids. Sounds like he might play this week anyway, though.

Sedai
10-24-08, 04:17 PM
Yeah, glad I went with Thomas, as he does tend to get the goal line chances, and I think he is the better third down pass catcher. There is another back that can throw the wrench in both of our gears... his name escapes me right now...

Powdered Water
10-24-08, 08:54 PM
You have Gore though right Seds? He may have a monster day for you. Mike Singletary just took over San Fran and according to a radio guy from San Fran that I heard today he is planning on reigning in O'Sullivan and giving more carries to Gore. Supposedly O'Sullivan may even be benched after this weeks game if he keeps turning over the ball so my little O'Sullivan experiment may be coming to an end. In fact I'm going to go ahead and play Jakey boy this Sunday because he's playing Arizona at home this week which should actually be a pretty good match up for him. Besides Arizona's road record is terrible and with any luck that will continue.

Powdered Water
10-25-08, 01:03 PM
It also looks like you are going to have that decision to make as well Yods about Parker. You've probably already heard but he is supposed to play. He didn't practice yesterday however so you may have more insider knowledge as to what that means for your particular team.

Still no word from the league about the positive steroid tests, definitely worth watching closely though. The NFL has always been pretty rigid in following their policy so if in fact Deuce did test positive he will most likely be out on Sunday.

Yoda
10-25-08, 02:10 PM
I've heard that McCallister is probably playing either way; not sure why that would be, but perhaps they need to verify a few things before any suspension takes effect. I'm almost certainly starting him, though, as I think he's a far better option than Moore. It'd be a total no-brainer for me at this point if not for the steroids thing, what with Moore still being a bit of a newcomer on the scene, possibly splitting time with Parker, and up against a stout defense.

I'll be reading about this today and more tomorrow morning just in case McCallister is suspended, though.

Powdered Water
10-25-08, 02:31 PM
Another note of interest that directly affects a MoFo. Cotchery and Coles may both be out on Sunday. I'm sure you may already have heard this Seds but if not then a little heads up for you.

Powdered Water
10-25-08, 02:36 PM
The thing that's weird about it is the source. The story broke from Denver of all places. Is that where they do the testing or something? The NFL has neither confirmed or denied the report so it may very well be that this is totally bogus. Probably not, but its a possibility. The bummer is, and I know you're aware of this. If and when the NFL acts they can do it anytime they want, even going as far as pulling him right before gametime and then you're up the proverbial creek. Anyway, I hope it works out for you.

Sedai
10-25-08, 02:52 PM
Looks like Coles is a go, and they called his concussed state earlier this week "mild". He practiced fully on Friday.

Yoda
10-25-08, 03:19 PM
Okay, McAllister (yes, I've finally realized I was using a superfluous 'c' in there) is said to be playing this week on the strength that even if he IS suspended, he'll likely appeal.

It's funny, though, because I picked him up a few weeks ago, but had to drop him to make way for some very temporary Bye week pickups. PW grabbed him and dropped him, and I've got him again, but once he's suspended I'll have to let him go again. Everyone's gonna have a ride on McAllister; he'll probably have Chlamydia or something by Week 12.

Slug
10-26-08, 11:51 AM
I have decided to put in Willie Parker today against all odds.
And Favre.
I'm going for it.
I'm going against the league leader, PW.
I have to go for it!
I hope I don't flub up.
I think I'm going to get crushed!

10-26-08, 11:56 AM
You'll be fine Slug. Favre is a good call today he is playing KC and their Defense is terrible. A few of my guys have tough defenses to face today so this may be a pretty close game.

TONGO
10-26-08, 01:54 PM
Alls I know is I must keep winning. After my 1-3 start Im 4-3, and need to keep making a forward motion. My grandious dreams of domination are no more! Now its not looking like a horrible ass.

This would be a tough week vs Boondock Skins if he'd update his roster. His kicker and Wide Receiver are on bye weeks.

Mrs. Darcy
10-26-08, 03:19 PM
I'm in the same situation with the Sharks, Tongo. He kept in a bye player and an injured man, but he still might kick my arse! Phillip is not having luck against his old friend Brees today... so sad.

TONGO
10-26-08, 03:29 PM
Ugh! I might be right with you on that Mrs D as I played Carolina on D rather than Tampa Bay. Tampas against Dallas, and I thought theyd be stiffer competition than the Panthers foe the Cardinals.

Mrs. Darcy
10-26-08, 03:54 PM
PW!! You voted for the Sharks against me even though he's got those men out? O' ye of little faith...

I hope you get an ass whuppin'.

Powdered Water
10-26-08, 05:16 PM
 Did I? Sorry Darcy, he's the only team that's beaten me this year so I though he may have a hot streak going. I didn't realize he hadn't updated his roster. I wish we would have done that when I played him.

Btw, Tongo can I have Roddy White back now? When I cut him he was doing nothing and the prospect of having a rookie QB throwing to him all year looked dismal to me, now he's on fire!

Oh well...

Powdered Water
10-26-08, 05:48 PM
Yods, it looks like you should have played Moore after all.

Powdered Water
10-26-08, 08:06 PM
Looks like Sluggo is going to pull off the upset. Good for you Slug. I swear, if I can ever get my whole team on track for a day I might break 200 points. Until then... not so much.

I'm not sure who it was that dropped Boldin, but whoever you are thanks for that. I finally have a wide receiver.

Slug
10-26-08, 08:21 PM
I can't believe it.
I pulled it off.
Issac Bruce had a long gainer late.
PW never quit.
I won by less than two points.
I'm drenched in sweat.
Mrs. Darcy is spraying me febreezze.
Good game PW.
Everyone moves up one don't they?
I rolled the dice and put in Willie Parker and he didn't play.

Powdered Water
10-26-08, 08:29 PM
Yeah, I didn't quit. Most of my team sure did though. I promised them all slushies at 7-Eleven if they at the very least got their averages... but Noooooo! Yeah well, I just cut some of the dead weight and next week is another week is it not?

Good job Sluggo!

Yoda
10-26-08, 08:41 PM
Well, Ben let me down, scoring just 9.86 points. He'd have had 2 more if not for two goofy interceptions; one a hail mary in the last two minutes (which still shows up on the stat sheet, of course), and another which bounced out of a receiver's hands and into a defender's.

Technically, yeah, I should have played Moore, but I obviously wasn't going to bench Slaton for him (who scored just 2.8 points less), and McAllister actually scored 0.1 points more. The tricky part was playing Colston, who scored just 6.6 points, but I do think Moore's numbers are a bit surprising given the Giant defense.

Anyway, my lineup was surprisingly solid across the board, except for Ben, and the Steeler defense which didn't get a single sack or turnover, if you can believe that. Not one! The end result: Swedish takes home the win IF Chris Johnson scores at least 6.41 points tomorrow night. Which, you know, he will.

Like my Steelers, looks like I'm going to come up just short this week in an especially tough matchup. Good game, SC.

Right back atcha, Commish, but I wouldn't be surprised if CJ completely craps out on me tomorrow night.

Sedai
10-27-08, 10:14 AM
Well, that's the second major waiver mistake i have made this year. I definitely should have picked up Deuce instead of Thomas!

I am behind, but I still have three slots to play tonight. That said, even with three slots to go, I still may lose, unless Manning can come alive against the best defense in the league. Either thhat or he needs to do really poorly and throw like 5 interceptions, a couple of which need to be returned for TDs...

Manning connecting with Clark for a TD would be nice...

Yoda
10-27-08, 11:29 AM
Oh, I've got all you beat on waiver mistakes. I dropped Matt Schaub at the last minute right before his biggest game of the year, and now he's killing enough that, if I had him, I'd be sorely tempted to play him over Ben.

Not only that, but I dropped McAllister once, and just grabbed him again by dropping Donnie Avery, AKA: that receiver who just went off for 160+ yards and a TD. I thought he'd have a big game, and wanted to grab him, but wasn't sure enough to start him...and I didn't want to play Moore, so I need McAllister. And Moore/McAllister ended up being a wash anyway.

So, about a billion things could or would have changed the outcome of this one; playing Avery, keeping Schaub and playing him, playing Moore over Colston, Ben having even an average game, etc. Somehow I managed to find the narrow path that led to defeat.

D'oh.

Anyway, unless Johnson fumbles the ball and then gets hurt or something, I'm probably done for. The horrible irony of it all is that the Steeler defense played a GREAT game. I mean a really, really great game. They stonewalled the Giants offense several times on 3rd and 4th and short, despite the fact that the Steeler offense kept giving them outrageous field position. I expected a great game out of the defense, but somehow they managed to play great defense without any turnovers or sacks.

So, I'll be holding out for a small miracle tonight, but I'm chalking this one up as a loss. Big missed opportunity.

Sedai
10-27-08, 11:39 AM
For next week, I am going WAY out on a limb, and playing a little scatback in my swing, as Gore will be out, leaving me short in the back category, once again!

Coles is turning out to be a good starter, it seems...

Housh, despite all that is working against him, is turning out to be one of the most consistent WRs in the league. I am happy about that, too.

One more tough bye week for me, and then I can get my team back in order, with Gore, Forte and McGahee as my backs, until Bush is back in action...

Yoda
10-27-08, 12:08 PM
Aye. This is your rough patch; if you can pull out a win next week, you're in good position to make the playoffs.

I'm quite pleased with how competitive and interesting this has all turned out. A few owners are kind of absent, but for a first-year dealie we've got some really interesting storylines going and a good 6-7 teams with a good shot at one of the four playoff spots right now.

Sedai
10-27-08, 12:18 PM
So much fun. I am dead in the water in my other league, so this is my shot at the playoffs. I need to win this week, and pull off some magic next...

Yoda
10-27-08, 09:37 PM
Well, the Chris Johnson voodoo doll didn't work and the game's about to start. I figure my options are down to a) calling a bomb threat into Nashville's LP Field or b) time travel.

Feels quite weird wishing harm upon another human being whom I have no real quarrel with. Whom I have every reason to believe is a fine, upstanding young man who is in all likelihood an asset of the community to which he belongs. I don't want him to get too hurt, though. A pulled hamstring would be perfectly acceptable.

Sedai
10-27-08, 10:19 PM
That was about the best possible thing that could have happened...

I thought the exact same thing when Clark caught the touchdown. I thought "Sedai must be flipping out." :D

Meanwhile, slow start for Johnson. It's nice that he's decided to get my hopes up a little before dashing them against the rocks.

Sedai
10-27-08, 11:24 PM
Oh my...

Yoda
10-27-08, 11:27 PM
Another touchdown to Clark! You're now ahead by a very comfortable margin.

Meanwhile, Johnson's at 7.6 points, which is more than enough. So unless he, I dunno, fumbles twice or something, that's that. I hope the margin's a bit bigger, though; I'd hate for those two cheap Ben INTs to end up being the difference.

I'm loving the waiver wire, I've actually started looking at it almost every day. Picking up those players that others give up on. I think I may play Avery instead of Turner this week who has cooled way off of late. And I picked up Donald Driver who isn't a world beater but he's a solid receiver. I'm just kicking my self for letting Roddy White go early in the year. Even with a rookie QB he's turned into a PPR monster. All said though that's been my only really bad move in this first season so I'm gonna just have to deal.

Really tough game for Portis this Sunday... I just don't see how I can take him out though, maybe if my waiver claim for Edgerrin James comes through I'll give it more thought. More likely though it will be between Edge and Avery.

Swedish Chef
10-29-08, 12:45 AM
Well, I also added The Edge, but I honestly have no idea how the waiver system works. The number next to my team says 6, what does that mean?

Yoda
10-29-08, 09:45 AM
I believe that's waiver priority, which helps determine who gets a player if and when more than one person wants to claim him. I don't know all the ins and outs, though, and it's burned me at least once.

Need one more good pickup this year. Nabbing Slaton was great, but I let go of both Schaub and Avery. I need to get back to .500 on good/moronic waiver movies.

Sedai
10-29-08, 09:58 AM
If multiple people make claims on the same waiver player, the person with the lower number gets the claim (in the case of Edge, PW got him). If you do get the player, you move to 12th on the list, coming in last for all claims until someone else makes a claim and gets bumped back. Strategy is a must with waivers. Make sure that claim is worth it, or you may miss a better one a few days later...

I almost put a claim on Edge, but, he is sliding hard, and Hightower is chomping at the bit for that starting position...
