View Full Version : Should we get rid of the autosaved drafts?
That's the question. In theory, I really like the modification we're using that autosaves your message after about 5 minutes so that people don't lose longer posts if their connection goes bad, or their login expires, etc. At the same time, it does seem to have a few bugs and I don't know if any fix is forthcoming.
What do you guys think? I'm willing to put up with its quirkiness if people are finding it actively helpful, or have come to rely on it, so I'm mostly wondering if a) anyone has found it helpful, and b) if so, how helpful?

I have a computer that likes to randomly restart every now and then so, yes, it definitely has prevented a mini nervous breakdown or two for me. I like that feature, I just wish it didn't keep all the drafts every time I post in a particular thread. It gets confusing.

I like the feature.... not that I have enough time or mind left to make too many long posts lately... but I've found it useful several times when my server decided it was time to irritate me...
I haven't noticed any deficits in functionality, so I say keep it...
I'm an inveterate tinkerer.
Just thought I'd say that here.
(Yep, keep it ;) - plus I haven't noticed any glitches with it either)
Oh wait, is the glitch the way you get half a thread's worth of stuff quoted when you reply again on a thread now? Yeah that is a bit annoying. But no biggie.

I find the function very useful when I'm writing my reviews, so I hope it strays.

OK, one thing that I was always curious about was . . . When this option was first set-up, we could choose if we wanted it, or not. Can that not be an option again?
As far as the glitch goes, there is only one that I know of, and previewing your post is what makes it happen. You start your reply, and while you are typing it, the checked box saves it. Once you preview your post, that box becomes unchecked, and you can no longer check the box. So your post is no longer deleted automatically.
That use to drive me insane, because I was already use to using notepad, and I didn't need this option. Finally, I figured out a trick for that problem. You pretty much have three choices here. Either . . .
1. Don't preview your posts, and then it will always delete the saved draft, once you make your posts.
2. Preview them, and get over having numerous posts in each reply box, each time you come back to the same thread.
3. Do as I do . . . Type one letter, preview the post right away, and that will turn off the saved draft to begin with. Just remember, it won't be saving your post for you at all.
I hope that made sense.
Also, there's always quick reply.

I'm a bit stumped here, because I didn't fiddle with any options or touch the modification the tiniest bit after installing it, so I can't imagine how something would be an option one minute, and then not the next. Where was the option, exactly?
I was hoping we'd either get lots of people who like it, or lots who don't, so the decision would be clear. Instead we're getting a mix.

It was in the "Edit options". I just went to see where, exactly, but that looks different now. I dunno. I remember when I saw it, though, because it was around the time I mentioned the other option in there not working.
Signatures Only Shown Once: If this option is set to yes then signatures will only be displayed once per page.
Signatures Only Shown Once: Yes, or No?
Yet we still can't use it. I know that you've set it up that way on purpose, but I simply assumed that you did the same thing with the saved drafts.
To me it seems everyone is OK with the saved draft option staying. They just wish it didn't cluster a bunch together each time they returned to a thread. Like I said, if they stop previewing their posts, it won't do that anymore.
Didn't know we had it.
Either way is fine with me.

See, three votes for keeping it, three for keeping it, with a small gripe on that glitch, and a "Huh? Yeah, keep it."
It sounds rather unanimous to me. :D
no way! I always get logged out accidentally what with my long diatribes. :D I need it.
I like the auto-save. It works with PMs too...right? There have been times I've noticed a 'saving' word pop up in the corner if I'm writing a long PM. In the past there have been times when I've completely lost either a long post or long PM. T'was very frustrating. I haven't had that trouble in a long while...so if that's due to the auto-save...then I vote save it. And, thanks for putting in the auto-save Yoda.
Mack...so your a tinkerer like Golgot. Tinkering is good! :D

Keep it. Focus your Jedi mind tricks on something more important, like getting my status bar up and running. :p

What's this, or should I already know?
