Does anyone agree with me that the older episodes/seasons are much better than the newer ones that are on tv at the moment!?!

Im a fan well who isnt, but I have to admit that the newer episodes that ive been seeing are not as funny or as good as they were a few years back.

So who agrees that the older episodes are better or do you think the newer episodes are much better ;)

I agree, the Simpsons were much better about 7-8 years ago, now the episodes are just hard to watch and full of unfunny jokes. Nohomers.net has many threads in the forum section dedicated to this topic.

Depends on how far you go back. I think the first couple seasons were pretty forgettable, personally. I also think the last couple have been pretty good. I think, 5-6 years ago, it was kinda chic to talk about how The Simpsons had dropped in quality, but I don't think it's quite as true now.

I think the prime years were around the middle, with plenty of exceptions to go around, of course.

Growing up with The Simpsons, it will always be one of my favorites. I would say around seasons 3-8 were my favorites. I don't know if I stopped watching because I grew up and wasn't as available on Sunday evenings or if I noticed the show wasn't funny anymore.
I heard the show started to drop in quality because Matt Groening and the original writers were no longer heavily involved in the show, anyone else hear this rumor?

Yeah, they left to do Futurama.

The Simpsons is funnier now than it was a few years ago, but then it's not as funny as some of it's highest points. I still find jokes I laugh at, but I also sometimes find things to cringe at, often in the same episode. It's not as good as it was, but it's not as bad as people think it is.

On Monday I was at a Laundromat. The Simpsons was on the tv. It was an episode where Lisa goes up in a tree to impress a hippie dude. There's a part where Homer goes into a limo and says "Look, Marge, I'm in a Limo! The Simpsons are going to Paris..." How does that even scan as a joke, let alone qualify as a funny one? The rest of the episode was some lame-ass phony-cynical satire for pussies, not making fun of anything real. "Young people make fashion statements out of political protest", that's an okay point, so what, Frank Zappa made the same jokes back when it actually mattered and was edgy and clever and offensive about it.

I used to think the Simpsons had gotten worse, now I just think I've gotten better. Or at least my sense of humor has.

But whatever, people find it funny, I won't be lame and obnoxious and passively accuse anyone of trying to be cool by going against some vague consensus that the Simpson's has gone down hill and boldly carrying the torch on through the long dark night of Simpsons-bashing. I'll pray for the souls of everybody who still likes it, but I'll be polite and keep it to myself.

Anything that's gone on this long is bound to get tired, i'd agree with Yoda- first episodes were mostly forgettable, once it found it's feet and was fresh- in the middle- will always be best.

The first seasons were lets put it *****. Around season 5 it picked up and i think peaked around Season 8. But the new seasons, have been utter crap.

It realy hit me in that episode when Lisa became school leader and Chalmers tricks her into signing something or what ever, thats when i realised that the Simpsons were not funny any more. I mean i was watching that episode when Marge falls in love with that walrus guy and i was thinking, this is not funny at all.

But on a good note, older episodes seem more funny now. Either that im older and i get more of the jokes or that the new ones are so un-funny it makes the old ones seem more funny.

Make sure you pray for me, lines, although I have to wonder, who are you going to pray to?

I also think any show going on for this long is bound to decline in quality, some what. That's why I like Family guy, I mostly see it as a reinvigoration of the genre.

Seasons 3 to 8 are genius.

Then onwards is mostly twaddle.

Best episodes? Who Shot Mr Burns, Rosebud, Monorail, Cape Fear spoof etc. I have jet lag so cant be bothered to list them all so you get my jist...must sleep now.
