View Full Version : MoFo Fantasy Football - Week 3
Okay, I know this is premature, but this thread's going to be created anyway, and I just noticed that I'm playing PW's Odd Squad this week. He's 2-0, I'm 1-1, but what's interesting is that we're the top two highest scoring teams so far (237.20 to 225.22). Should be a battle of epic proportions.
In other words, it's on. It's not on yet, but it will be. If you were used to it being off, please be aware that it will soon be on, and take any necessary precautions as a result. As a result of it being on, I mean.
On.
This should be a sick battle... when it's like, on and stuff.

I don't have a problem with premature onism and if any one else around here does, I should hope they would keep that sort of information to themselves.
Nah mean?
Anyway, here's to laying the smack down on yet another unworthy opponent in what I'm sure will become a regular occurrence in my march to a perfect season in this, my inaugural year here on MoFo Fantasy Football 2008.
If I haven't done so already I would like to go ahead and thank all of the little people that I will undoubtedly have to step on my way to said perfect season, but hey!

Golly! Lots of macho testosterone flying around here. I'd say it's on.
Will Frank Gore matching up against Detroit's paper defense this week, I am thinking he might have a decent week. ;)

Yeah he should. Although I bet you and me and several other MoFo's could put a squad together that could score some points against that defense.
One thing to remember about San Francisco this year is their Offensive coordinator it Mike Martz, you may remember him from St. Louis (When they were good) or more recently from Detroit. I only mention this because he is a Pass first kind of guy and while that certainly worked out fine for Marshall Faulk it may or may not work as well for Frank Gore. If he has trouble catching the ball he will start getting less and less touches per game. I'm certainly not trying to tell you to bench him but I'm betting you'll be keeping your eye on the stattracker knowing that, because there is a definite chance Frank Gore's numbers could go down.
Hmmm, typo. I meant to say "well" and not "will". No question is being asked.
Sorry for the confusion!

Martz has already gone on record stating his pass-first offense is going to change during his tenure in SF. He lauded Gore as an elite back, and stated his offense was Gore-centric, first and foremost. Also, not sure why frank would have trouble catching, as he has been a great receiver since he joined the NFL. I wouldn't have drafted Gore 1st round if this wasn't a PPR league, and Martz wasn't the coach.
Gore stated at some point that reason he had a bad year last year, injury aside, was that under the previous system, they didn't throw to him enough, and they used him too narrowly. Defenses were able to shut him down, because they constantly ran poorly designed draws etc. and he got shut down.
Gore's averages catches per game have doubled under MArtz, and once the receivers get their groove with O'Sullivan, and they start spreading the coverage, Gore will get even more airbourne action.
IMO, and the opinions of many fantasy sites, Gore is 2nd only to Westbrook in PPR leaggues. Once LT gets back into full action, and gets his toe healed up, he will clearly be a PPR monster, as well as his usual amazing self on the ground.
If Frerotte comes alive for the Vikings, and they start passing to Peterson more, he will be the big name in PPR, methinks. Too bad Childress is a narrow-minded fool, and for some reason isn't trying to get Peterson the ball in open space.
If Gore stays healthy, he will have a great year. If he stays healthy...

Those are all good points Seds, I was only mentioning it because Leopards (Martz) don't usually change their spots. What were Gore's numbers last week when that O'Sullivan kid was getting sacked 8 times (Yeah that's right 8 times) and yet still managed to throw for over 300 yards?
I wasn't trying to tell you to bench Gore or anything but it may be worth keeping an eye on.
Oh man, what was up with that? SF is having the same protection problems The Colts are having right now, and both QBs are in the same Hike-n-Throw in 2 seconds mode. Hopefully some of these soft lines get their **** together in the coming weeks. Gore's numbers were fine, although not as stellar as the first week. Still, he did just what an RB1 should do; combined duties for 100 yards and a TD, with 5 catches for some PPR love. ;)
Probably gonna start Ward again this week. Philly should have some trouble stopping the pass, and Fargas is out, anyway, so it's an easy choice. Totally bummed about the non-role Taylor seems likely to play. Ah well.
Almost on, by the way.
Gearing up for the games! :)

This hurts, but Im gonna make a judgement call and bench Adrian Peterson. Hamstrings are scary stuff, and Carolina will be tough. Rather go with Ward RB for Giants as theyre playing the Bengals.
That might be a mistake...

Yeah, I agree with you Seds. Even if Purple Jesus doesn't start he will still probably get a lot of carries. The kid is tough.
Readjustment made! Thanks guys.

You're up 29 to 20 right now T.
I hope someone had the foresight to play Ronnie Brown from Miami, 3 TD's already!
Yeah...Face Huggers has R Brown in their swing...
Trouble...
Luckily, Forte is at least putting points in my swing, with almost 18 at this point. Brown has 4 TDs now...

Lots of OT today.
I have a 12 point lead right now.
But scores can change so fast.
It's like having a piece of pizza in a restaurant, and there is one nice one left on the tray, and by the time you reach for it, some picky eater that really doesn't like pizza went and took it.

Damn... I had a feeling Julius Jones may have a big day for the Hawks against that absolutely horrible Rams team. I just couldn't pull the plug on Portis or Barber though, I still think Barber is a beast but so far JJ is slightly ahead of Portis today and there's still a half to go.
Tis a good problem to have says I.

Well, looks like Brian Westbrook is out with an ankle injury.
In a related story, my Flying Mongooses and I are in some serious trouble. I need something horrible to happen to Tony Romo before 8:30 ET tonight.

Brian Westbrook?
I didn't know who he was before last week, but I know who he is now.
He tore up my Bubblebutts.

He tore up your Bubblebutts something fierce, yes. But I think he got pretty hurt this week, so I guess you've got some good juju on your side or something. You didn't happen to knit up a Brian Westbrook voodoo doll over the past couple of days, did ya Sluggo?
Well I got Ben Roethlisberger in my other league and right now hes at -1. He was sacked 9 times! 9 times?! Ugh what a gyp!

Worked out pretty good for me though.
Seds team is off the chain this week!
Unreal, for sure, and with Cotchery still to play on Monday...

Where is our little Yoder anyway?
This is what a slow and painful loss looks like.
Yes, I'm in the lead right now.
But look who hasn't played yet for Boondock.
T. Owens, and D. Sproiles.
Sigh.
It looks nice right now.

Well that sucks! Good job Darcy.
D'oh, lost again. Finally got a big game out of Addai, but the Steelers offense was an utter mess, bringing three of my starters down with it. That's how it goes, I guess. Big swings.
Fred Taylor inexplicably rushed for over 100 yards just after I'd given up on him. Another d'oh there.
Fitzgerald had another huge day, though, but I don't know that you can win in this format without a solid day from your QB (or big days from almost everyone else, of course). Well done, PW.
And well done, Sedai, too. 158.64; highest for any team this year, yes? That Gore-Bush combo is just steamrolling everyone. It even withstood Ronnie Brown's monster day. Very impressive stuff.
Funny thing was, I was underprepared this week when looking at my players' specific matchups. Most of my starters still would have played, of course, but if I'd thought a bit more I might have realized that Ward should have been on the bench. Oh well.
The 11 Angry Men will now regroup, get somewhat angrier, and try to reach .500 next week.
Yeah, smooth sailing so far for the 'bots. I went to 0-3 in my other league, and my season is already almost over. One more loss there, and I am all done. Funny, as that seemed like the better team before the season started. Big names like LT, Edwards, and Cooley just aren't playing well at all.
Alas, I still have Cotchery to play here in the MoFo league, so I expect my score to inch up a bit more!
Ah yes, you should break 160. That's a mark that might stand awhile. :yup: Nicely done.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go kidnap Ryan Grant's mother or something.
Oh, I have had many evil thoughts about player's families this weekend.
Braylon Edwards, how I loath thee...

Dang, I just lost a flippin heart breaker
Oi, Bye week for my Indy players, so I will have to put a chump in at QB this week... I have a decent sub for my TE slot, but, QB... not so much...
Reading the Looks and Touches report this week, and so far this season, as far as total offensive yards are concerned, running backs rank thusly:
1st - Frank Gore
2nd - Matt Forte
3rd - Reggie Bush
Hope this trio holds up, health-wise...

Drew Brees and Chris Johnson for Reggie Bush and Houshmandzadeh, Sedai?
Wow, public trade offers. Keen.
Not a bad swap, potentially, but I think you'll have to pry Bush from Sedai's cold, dead roster.
Well, I don't really need a QB or a back. Manning is a better play than Brees, with Brees' receiving core completely demolished. The only reason I would ever play him would be to combo with Bush, but if I traded Bush, that would vanish. I have Johnson on another team, and he is barely a viable flex play at this point, with White pretty much guaranteed all the goal-line work. I try to avoid committee backs at all costs, for the most part.
In a PPR league, I wouldn't even trade Bush for Peterson.
Housh is one of my favorite wideouts of all time. He usually starts the season slow and then produces consistently from then on out.
Meanwhile, bye-week has be set up for a fall this week, as I face off against PW's stellar squad... I have Greise in, who could potentially throw for 300+ yards under Gruden's pass-happy system. He could also throw six interceptions and get benched. Hopefully not...

Yeah, I just saw Houshmandzadeh play against the Giants, and he looked very good. To be honest, I'm really just trying to unload Drew Brees because I need an excuse to start Aaron Rodgers every week. But I don't wanna just give Brees away. He was my second round pick, ya know? I want to get something of value back for him, but I don't know if there'll be any takers.
Well, I might come knocking on your door at some point if Ben goes down. He's been taking a beating and really getting dinged up. I doubt he'll go out, but if he does, I know where to find you.
Also a tiny chance that, as much as I love Ben, he might find himself incapacitated by his offensive line. That, too, might send me searching elsewhere, especially with my backup, Schaub, underperforming thus far.
Housh's numbers all depend on whether or not Palmer gets protected for more than .5 seconds, and how that same QB's confidence is doing. CIN players are always a risk, but the upside is clearly there.
I would hold on to Brees for now, though...
