View Full Version : MoFo Fantasy Football - Week 1
Figured we could use another thread for the week-to-week jabbering, since the MoFo Fantasy Football 2008 (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=16417) thread was mostly about general strategy and draft talk.
Big day's tomorrow, of course. A few scattered points have been distributed as a result of Thursday's NYG/WAS game, but not much. As always, most of it's going to be settled tomorrow.
Let's get it on!
GAME ON!
I am about to begin my Fall/Winter Sunday morning ritual of coffee, fantasy football live reports, and last minute squad changes. I have a couple of decisions to make with my MoFo roster, depending on sit/start reports this morning!
Good luck to all! :)
Should I leave Ricky Williams in with Ronnie Brown getting so much press this week?
Should Forte get his shot earlier than I thought?
Or is it Galloway... I just can't decide! :D
I went with Galloway, just because we are PPR...
I say this with all due respect: I sincerely hope that decision causes you to lose.
Game on! :D
Cotchery with a 56 yard TD grap. Great start for The Replicants. Nicely done, Seds. I really think Cotchery was a great pick.
Hines Ward's 75-yard bomb called back on a questionable call. D'oh. Small consolation prize in his 29-yard catch a moment later, though.

Looks like Brady got hurt pretty bad
We'll all have to watch that one closely. It would almost certainly ruin the Beantown Champs' season, and could dramatically effect the league as a whole, not to mention every other league in the world. Yikes.
Galloway is slightly out ahead of Williams, points-wise.
That said, neither has done much today...
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ben and Ward just killed me!
Still... We are having a great game so far!
Manning still needs to play...

I hope nobody started the Seahawk defense today... Yikes! Already given up 20 points. That can't be good no matter what league you're in.
Yeah, they've hooked up twice. And that's with the 75-yard bomb called back. The downside to the rout (it's 35-3 at the moment) is that I don't think I'll be getting a lot of out of Ben. He'll probably just be handing the ball off soon. EDIT: yup, looks like he's coming out.
Slug's going to win almost solely on the strength of Willie Parker's big day (31+ points at the moment), from the looks of things.

Micheal "The Burner" Turner is having a killer day for me. Makes up for Ocho Cinco who either isn't playing or hasn't caught a pass.

This StatTracker/Game channel thing is pretty cool, although it seriously slows down my ancient computer.
Houston got another 7, which is just fine by me. ;)
Crazy day for Pitt, though...

I'd just like to point out that even though I messed up this week and am getting 0 points out of my TE, W/R or K positions, I still have more fantasy points than all of you. Looks like I'm pretty much the class of the league, folks.

Of course, when the week officially ends on Tuesday, I'll probably be somewhere around third. Or fourth.
I still stand by my "class of the league" comment, though.
Bush just exploded for a TD catch.... I needed that, badly.

So, you can sub players in off the bench in between games? The team I'm up against did that. He started Jason Campbell and then after thursday's game brought in Derek Anderson. Can you sub players during games too?
I think the rule is that, once a game starts, that player's locked. Beyond that, I'm not sure.
Yeah, I see Reggie Bush is having a huge day for you, Sed. Even if it isn't enough, that's got to be a really positive sign. You went out on a limb with him a bit, and if they use him this way all year, he'll be a a huge steal for you.
A big fat "pffft" to the Texans scoring garbage-time points. :p You're catching up in a big hurry...

Aye, you're running it up. Then again, I haven't had Addai OR Grant play yet. But your total is awfully impressive. If you'd started Johnson and Bowe, you'd be at 120+ already.

That's interesting, so if you have a few decent bench players that are slated to play in the late games you could concievably play your entire roster every week.

Great finish in the Miami-Jets game. Pennington had a last-second shot to beat his former team, but threw an interception in the endzone. Favre nabs his first victory as a Jet, but the Dolphins actually played really well and they're not gonna be 1-15 again.

Nah, once a game kicks off, you can't replace that position. You only get 9 players/defenses per week.

I'll have to watch how it shakes out then, if that's true then Derek Anderson's stats shouldn't count. Becuase that will be the tenth player he has played this week. He's on the Stat tracker though, so I think they're going to count.
Huh. I see what you mean. We'll have to keep an eye on this. As goofy as this sounds, though, I'm fairly sure it'll end up making sense/being fair. I did a bit of mild fiddling with some of the default scoring, but that's it. I made sure to go with the defaults for most league options, so whatever the deal is, it should be reasonable.
Maybe there's an exception made for Thursday games? Probably not, but I'm thinking out loud. We shall see.

Yeah, but Jason Campbell's stats weren't counted. Boondock Skins must've switched them before the Washington-New York game. I don't think that there's a special case made for Thursday games or anything like that.
D'oh. Swedish is right. It all makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out.

I see what you're saying SC, if Campbell number's were counting he'd have a higher total right now.

That's what I want to see, Whiten and Owens get a few yards and Barber collects the TD's.
Seds takes the lead with Gore's 41-yard run! That caps a pretty impressive comeback. He's already gotten nearly 40 points from his two RBs, and Gore isn't done yet. I'll need at least decent production of of Addai and Grant to retake the lead, I expect, depending on what Fitzgerald does.

Another TD from Barber to keep me in front. It is still pretty close though. The way Dallas is tossing it around, another TD or 2 for TO and I'm sunk.
If Chicago can hold Indy scoreless at home and get about 4 turnovers then I'm in killer shape... What? It could happen.

Wow, Brady's out for the year. (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=As6bHdamvNkB9hiujSBQ_Zc5nYcB?slug=ms-bradyoutforyear090708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)

I know what "The Dude" would say.
Marion Barber went out as well, I'm waiting to hear what's up with him. He was on his way to Micheal Turner numbers before he went out.
Bummer for Rick. He took Brady #2 overall, too. We're competing, and as a Steeler fan I love to see the Pats lose, but that's still rough. I feel for the guy.
Anyway, shortly after it happened I claimed Matt Cassel off waivers, just in case it ended up being serious. Even though he's Matt Cassel, he pretty much has to put up some good numbers in that offense. If anyone's interesting in a trade, I'd be more than open to the idea, as I've got Ben and Schaub already and would rather upgrade somewhere else than have a great backup.
Uh-oh, Addai had a poor first half. He'll have to pick it up a little, or Week 1 will rest solely on whether or not Ryan Grant can pick up 10-15 points tomorrow night.
Manning is looking like he may give you a chance, though. Bad first half.
I am pretty sure I will slide Matt Forte into my swing next week...pretty impressive so far!
Yeah, it's kinda funny that we're relying on guys on the same side of the ball on the same team. A high-scoring game favors both of us, but probably you a bit more. At the same time, passes from Manning to Addai favor both of us, but favor me more, because of the .5 points per reception, and the fact that receiving yards are worth more than passing yards. Pretty kooky criss-crossing interests here.
And yeah, Forte's probably earned a chance on The Replibcants' starting lineup.
Clark went down with a knee injury...
Just snagged Scaife...
Most fun I have had in some time.
I'm learning as I go.
Stat tracker is cool.
It does slow down computers.
I feel bad that Brady got hurt.
Bean Town Champs got a tough break.
I thought I was going to lose before the games began.
Looks like it's all on Ryan Grant for you, Chris!
He needs 19.8 points to pull out the win...
Difficult, but, Grant is a guy that might do it....
Yikes. Addai did basically nothing last night, so yeah, it's all on Grant now. Can't say I like my chances, but we'll see.
Interesting, the way this has unfolded. Manning had a mediocre game for you, but the Colts were behind, which kept him throwing. On the other end, my Steelers routed the Texas, so Ben was handing off non-stop early in the 2nd half, and came out of the came altogether shortly afterwards. So, while he played well (13 of 14), he didn't play much.
Great match, either way! :) Yours is a team I wouldn't be too ashamed to lose to. Look at those RBs; just shy of 50 points combined! Yikes.
Yeah, I am glad I made the stretch for possible PPR monster Reggie Bush. I hope he stays healthy all year!
If I would have played Forte in my swing, he would have tacked on 21 points, as opposed to Galloway's 8.
I just hadn't seen/heard enough about him to take the risk...
Believe me, Grant can do it, but the Minny D is quite good. We shall see!
@ Darcy - RE: Stallworth - GAH! Bad luck for both of us. The guy injured himself during warm-ups. This put a crimp on Cleveland's game, all day. Anderson had limited targets, and ended up under-performing. I have Anderson in my other league, and I ended up getting slaughtered for my first loss...
Just a thought Im throwin out, but NFL.com has free fantasy football if any of you want to play in 2 leagues. I can get hopefully at least one person from the Org, and maybe another site.
I am already in multiple leagues ;)
Too many and I start to get confused. I kept thinking I had Galloway on my other league, and I went to make a roster change like 4 times... Meanwhile, I ended up having to play Coles, who had a terrible day...
Not sure if I mentioned it, but, Peterson is really fun to watch! Looks really good tonight...
Aye. The very definition of explosive.
Grant really needs to punch it in here...
...stuffed on 1st and Goal...
...inside the 1 on his second try...
...and they throw on third. D'oh!
Grant for 19 yards. Now we're talking. Got a looooong way to go, though, if I'm gonna pull this thing out.
Damn right! Theyre my defense! GO Minny D!
This is the most jawdropping bs! I have Adrian Peterson and the MN defense....I dont even need 10 points to beat Face Huggers....and they combined have 0. ****ing zero!
-sobs-
So, Grant finally busts loose for 55 yards, but falls just short of the goal line, and someone else runs in it. He also hasn't caught a pass. Think that was probably my last plausible chance. Good game, Mike! All came down to the RBs; you got some genuinely sick production out of Bush and Gore. Congrats. Looks like I'll have to wait until Week 12 to extract any vengeance. ;D
But, you won, Tongo. Adrian Peterson has 17.9 FP. The Minny D got 2 points.
You won 95.00 to 83.72
Chris - Great game! I had a blast watching games and tracking stats this week. Having MoFo involved adds a whole new dimension. Fun to have a thread to chat in during the games!
I will see you in week 12! :D
Congrats to Powdered Water for the High Score of the Week, with 121.10 FPs!
Henh?! It says on Matchup I lost?!
No, it says you won. Did you get Stattracker? You would need to have purchased stat tracker to get real time score updating...
Trust me, you won. Peterson looked great tonight... It's their damn QB that needs work!
Henh?! It says on Matchup I lost?!
It also says "Updated Nightly" below that. ;) To the right is a link to purchase the ability to get live updates. I think they give us part of the first week free.

Well. It seems I could have pitted my grandmother, who's dead by the way, against my Yahoo team and she still would have scored more points. Go team!
Tell me about it, Darcy. I did well in this league, but, my super-star team in my other league (that looked amazing before game time on Sunday) placed me an abysmal 10th in a 10 team league...
I feel your pain!
I might bench Anderson this week for the red hot Jay Cutler...
LOL! I dropped MN thinking they were a dud. They only did score 2 points though.
I would snag them, but TEN is my sleeper D pick this year, and, I am sticking with them.
Consider this:
Greg Jennings is one of the best WRs when catching in a crowd. He has great hands, and a sick vertical. They had him covered well last night, but he simply beat the guy in the vertical. That was all Jennings, and the Minny D played that pass as they should have.
After stuffing the run three times in a row at the 1 yard line, Rodgers had to take a risky cross-body shot at a guy that was under tight coverage. This was all Rodgers. He NAILED that pass. No one was defending against that.
I still think Minn Defense is the goods...
Man, what an exciting week! All came down to the RBs with Sedai and I. Addai/Grant: 14.4 pts. Gore/Bush: 49.4 pts. That says it all. BOTH of Seds' RBs scored more than both of mine combined.
Looking forward to Week 2; Pittsburgh takes on Cleveland. I think the Steelers look good, but the competition should be stiffer, so Ben should play more.
I am actually considering benching Anderson in my 10 team-league, as The Steelers defense looked pretty damn robust. Edwards and Anderson were bickering on the field, which is not what I want to see happening with my WR1 and my starting QB.
I could never bench Braylon Edwards, but I may pop Cutler in after his superstar performance last night...
In our league, I think I will just rotate my swing slot to running back Matt Forte.
Let's see if I can get THREE backs producing the big numbers...
RE- Exciting Week - Tell me about it. The most fun I have had watching Football in a long time...As I mentioned, the added dimension of all us MoFos battling it out, while live-chatting in the threads is awesome!
Oh, and, I think I will have to sub a new TE in this week. Still haven't heard anything about Clark, as of yet...
Knee injuries can be nagging...
