Hey MoFos.

As most of you know, duplicate threads can be a bit of a problem around here. In some cases, this is fine, as older topics have run their course, but most of the time there are recently-used threads on a given subject, and duplicates are the result of carelessness.

To help cut down on this, I've installed a small modification that takes the title of a new thread and searches for similar threads automatically. If you feel like giving it a try, just hit the New Thread button in any forum, enter a title, and click anywhere outside of the title field.

It's hard to say if this will significantly cut down on duplicate threads, of course. After all, if someone's inconsiderate to post "what are ur fav scary movies???" without searching first, they may well be inconsiderate enough to gloss over the list of simialr threads below their title. But I thought it was worth a try, and it's a cool little feature, besides. :)

That's all nice and dandy, now how do I enter my own Status information, like you have up above, Mr. Dark Knight Tickets?

Hehe. Was wondering when someone would notice that. It's not quite ready for public consumption...hopefully soon, though.

Dammit! SC beat me to it. I noticed that yesterday and was going to go to the shout box with it but then I got side tracked. Hard to imagine I know... wait... what was I talking about? Shiny.

Further proving that I have no idea where this post is going I will now begin to ramble in tongues...

I noticed the duplicate thread set-up super early this morning. Hotseat! Grill a MoFo: brings up quite a few.

More importantly: Why get your tickets to Dark Knight already? Hellboy 2 is out tomorrow and I don't know about the rest of this freak show but I am all over it baby! Yeah! A kickass two weeks of opening weekends I says.

Well, you KNOW I am psyched about this, as I am the site's biggest curmudgeon about this issue....

Nah. I don't think we'll go much further than this sort of thing. Thought I would point out that I wrote a similar hack years before Facebook existed that let people here choose their mood (with an associated smilie) from a dropdown list and have it show up on all their posts.

It was kinda funny, actually. Some people changed it all the time. Some left it on "Randy" for days. And I think Holden set it to "Indifferent" and never touched it again. Goodtimes.
