Ta-da! Okay, so it's not such a huge change, but seeing as so many MoFos have put time and effort into the Movie Club, I thought it should be formally recognized and supported with its own area on the site:

The MoFo Movie Club (http://www.movieforums.com/movieclub)

You can find it conveniently located where the long-dormant News/Blog button was up in the header. This means that all of the buttons lead to current, functioning areas again. I know, amazing, right?

Anyway, at the moment its just a way to bring more attention to the Movie Club, and put it all in one place. From the new page, you can see recent comments and vote for the next selection. Expect some new features sometime in the near future aimed at organizing things further.

Big thanks to Dave for all the effort he's put into the Movie Club. And a big thanks to everyone who has helped organize and participated in it over the years. You've all done such a great job with it, and it's so cool to see something members started on your own on a whim grow into a regular feature. This new area is for you guys, and I think it's going to grow and evolve into a really fun feature when all's said and done. :)

Nice one Yoda, think i'm even gonna be able to use the last one as part of my cult fan online research essay!

One small thing, i voted on the poll and i'm guessing where the results should be, there's an error box. Something about thumb missing, and then says a url for here doesn't exist....

Yoda
04-14-08, 02:27 PM
Can you take a screenshot of the error? That'd go a long way towards helping me fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience!

EDIT: the above certainly goes for anyone else who has similar problems, as well. Please don't hesitate to send me bug reports; I'd love to iron these issues out as soon as possible! :)

Thank you, MasterYoda for all the cool stuff you do for our edification and entertainment :)

Nah, can't, sorry Yoda. Already voted in the poll so link isn't there, though the results are so don't know if that means problem solved.

oh, sweet! i hope the Assasination of Jesse James stays in the lead for next month. i've always wanted to be in a movie club. i'll feel like such a nerd belonging to one, but you're all a bunch of nerds anyway. hooray!

I don't think the voting thing worked for me....

Yoda
04-15-08, 12:24 AM
Can you PM me the specifics? I'd like to track down whatever bugs there are, but obviously I'll need a lot more information to figure out what's wrong.

Yoda
04-18-08, 12:31 PM
Okay, figured out what was wrong with the voting. Forgot to change a URL somewhere, is all. Good news is the only problem was that it was redirecting ya'll to the wrong page. All votes were properly recorded. Redirection should be fixed now, too, though. :) Thanks to everyone for reporting the problem.

Okay, I know it's brand new and all, but I've just finished reworking the Movie Club (http://www.movieforums.com/movieclub) page. It's mostly just a reorganization to make room for the Movie Club Archive (http://www.movieforums.com/movieclub/archive.html) page, so people can easily browse through past Movie Club discussions.

There might be a few more changes in store, as well. I've talked to Dave about establishing some sort of calendar/timeline for these, so that people can start to expect them and get a sense of the time of each cycle.

That said, the MoFos have spoken and it looks like The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is next on the docket. :) Should make for an interesting discussion.

oooh this is such a great idea! Perhaps i'll drop in next month and check it out proper. Still trying to work out how it all works but yeah seems pretty straight forward. Where does everyone discuss? Just in a thread call "Movie Club - April" or something like that?

Tacitus

The discussion thread for this month's (very serious and newly professional) MoFo Movie Club will be put up on Monday 28th April. :)

Just a quick note; I modified the Movie Club (http://www.movieforums.com/movieclub) page to display not the most recent comments in the current Movie Club thread, but the highest rated (by rep points, of course).

This might be fairly useless in the early-goings of any Movie Club discussion, so I'll probably set it to display the most recent until the thread's been up for a few days; possibly as long as a week. I presume everyone's okay with this change, but I just thought I'd mention it anyway.

If any of you have a reason why this feature should not be implemented permanently, speak now, or forever hold your peace.

This is from another thread...
I'm not sure they'd want it running this fast, but I'll look into helping them. If it's just one person running it, then they are probably busy.I know this sounds a little presumptive coming from a person that's been here a month, but I CAN HELP! If you need any graphics or write-ups, I could do it. I'd love to contribute to the site somehow.

That is all.

I think that would be a great idea. If I am accurate, Tatty started it, and Powdered Wawa runs the thread now. They can correct me if I am wrong.

Well, you go to their profiles, click on PM, and ask them if they need any help. How's that for control!?!

Hiya MoFo's, I've been sorely lacking in the Movie Club of late and I've come to realize that I just can't give it the time anymore that it deserves. I worked more hours last year then ever before and it appears that this year will not be any different. That being said my regular MoFo time has been suffering along with the Movie Club. I'm just simply too tired most days to put it together.

So, here's what I propose, as the thing has basically grown into a serious section of the site I need some people that would like to take over. Two would best, if I can get that many. But whoever is interested will suffice. My main goal is to just keep it going even if that only means that I'll be participating in the threads instead of hosting it.

I see that PN a few months ago had some interest and that's fine. Please feel free to chime in here and let's go from there. Depending on the interest level, maybe we'll have a vote of some kind or something. Chris or the other mods, can you all please chime in too with any and all ideas that you have?

Oh and if it's OK could we maybe get this pinned for a bit until we have a resolution of some kind?

Thanks all, I've had a wonderful time doing it and I suspect that whoever takes over will do a fine job.

Yoda

Sure thing; I've just pinned the thread. Thanks for all your effort, PW: you did a bang-up job.

If we have any suitable volunteers, that'd be great. If not, I'd be willing to do it myself, though I think the site benefits from having my personality make up a slightly smaller percentage of the content now and then. Good to mix things up.

I'll gladly brainstorm some more with whoever takes the reins, as well, as to how we translate votes into discussion, draw newer people into the discussion, etc. :)

Yeah, and its not like you don't already have a few things to do around here as it is. Heh...

It is a relatively easy thread to start and run so I imagine a few members my be able to take up the reigns pretty easily. All one really need do is go back and look at Movie clubs past.

Heck, even if someone just wants to do it for a short time they could always switch off with the next one in line or whatever.

I'd be up for it. I don't have time to run my campus' film club this semester but I can do this site's from my house.

I just had a thought. If there's quite a few people that are interested, then perhaps it might be best to make the Movie club something akin the the theme game that we have. Every month or so the next member on the list steps in with their five choices and we go from there. Then, all we'd really need is someone that would have the time to watch the sign up thread and remind folks when their turn is coming up.

It's an idea anyway. Anyone like that idea?

wintertriangles
02-01-11, 07:41 PM
Sure. Why don't we find out how many people are interested first?

PW, I think your idea of having members put forward their five choices on a monthly basis is fine, but we could perhaps have the Movie Club guy put up the poll for these 5 films of said member's choice with a little explanation followed by the monthly (?) Movie Club thread, also put up by the Movie Club guy who provides some background on the film or interesting trivia.

Hmm, I think what I've said above is kind of exactly what you did, except now members could sign up and wait their turn to provide the 5 films the MoFo members can choose from.

That being said, I don't have time to put myself forward as a candidate. I have my hands full with uni, my girlfriend and my Best of the Year thread. Moreover, I think there are more viable candidates than myself. I think Mark is the right man for the job so I second his candidacy.

I do however want to be one of those members who can put forward 5 films of choice for the Movie Club so count me in for that bit.

Let's get this over with quickly, so we can have another Movie Club!

Heyo! I applied on the 1st of the month with great esteem and have not yet gotten a callback. I would appreciate it if you GOT BACK TO ME YOU BASTARDS. With love and kisses,

I'd like to formally welcome Wintertriangles and one Mr. Mark Eff into our MoFo movie club hall of fame. They will be taking the reigns from here on out and from what I understand a new poll should be up sometime in March or just before March.

Awesome. Good luck and I look forward to the next movie club!

Thanks guys!
